Ok, so I finally get my CE of DA:O and load on my comp. I change the compatability to run on windows 98 like I had to do with the character creator and everything is going fine. Re-deem downloads are working but when I go to new game tag to start actual game play it try's to load then drop's out and give's me this fault notification=
AppName:daorigins.exe AppVer: 1.0.9353.0 ModName:msvcr80dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.4053 Offset: 0001500a
Going into detail's tag give's me this=
C.Docume~1\\user\\LOCALS\\~1\\Temp\\d32e_appcompat.txt.
OK I am a gamer but not a tech head any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THX.
Ahhh, Won't Run

Have you tried a clean reinstall? Usually the first thing one should try with these things.

Hmm, the specifications say, that a multi core CPU is required to run DA:O. Using Win98 switches off multi core support. (It's only avalailbe through XP SP1 an higher.)
Try this:
1) "Run as administrator"
2) Try vista or XP compatibly mode
3) And, of course the usual recommendations: Update video and soud card drivers, update DirectX, use latest SP of your OS...

First thing, try re-installing the game. That's a first port-of-call when something is chaotic and abnormal. Considering that's a C runtime dll you're getting an error in, hopefully it may have just been copied to your computer and not fully completed/copied and interrupted, resulting in corruption. If re-installing doesn't work, copy that dll file into a backup folder (call it something suggestive, say... backup?) and paste it into there.
Now go to (http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en) and download the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package from the link on that page. It may or may not prompt you for a reboot, either way, this information is all I can think of at this point.
Hopefully this helped and the game is working,
. If not, I am sorry I couldn't help.

would be great if You post Your PC specs. Also this compatibility change to win98 does not sound optimistic :/ (I don't think DA is win 98 compatible at all.)

Windows 98? The minimum requirements for the game clearly state Windows XP with SP3 or Windows Vista with SP1. Don't expect it to run on any older Windows versions!

I think this is the wrong forum but I will still assist you. We would need to know what Windows you are using, what service pack does your windows currently have and the computer specs.

We would need more information about your computer. You can easily obtain that information for us by going to start > run > type dxdiag and hit enter or if you are on Vista you can just type on the white box directly above the start menu button dxdiag and hit enter. Once you see the screen hit the button "Save all information". A window pop up and will ask you where to save to just save it onto desktop. Open the file you created on desktop copy and paste everything onto here.
What this would do is give us something to work with. Something on your computer is preventing you from playing it. Plus you shouldn't change to windows 98 compatibility as that is not supported by the game.

Compatibility for 98? It's an XP, Vista, 7 game. Stop trying to run it in compatibility mode and it should work fine unless there's something special about your computer that you failed to mention.

Ok.First you don't need to run DA:O in compatibility mode at all.
What OS do you have? XP, Vista or the new Windows 7?

Why would you ever have to make it run with Windows 98? That's probably the case - DA:O as any modern game doesn't support Windows 98, only XP/Vista/Windows 7. Most probable that compatibility settings are messing the game.

Hey, have you tried to reinstall it? This is usually the best start to these kind of issues.

What OS are you running? I ran Character Creator on both Vista & Windows 7 w/ no problems.
Also, navigate to that d32e_appcompat.txt and look at it. It's a .txt file, so your issue may be explained in there. If not, go ahead an post the text here.

What version of windows are you running?
I assume vista or some such. Running in 'windows 98' will definitely not work. If you are on vista try compatiability as XP. If you are XP then I may need to see some other technical specs.

OS / CPU / RAM / Mobo? --- i'm not sure why you have to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode... I'm still on Vista 64bit and didn't have to mess with anything for the character creator.

Sounds to me like it's compatibility mode. Probably talking out of my ass, though.

Do you run DA:O on XP, Vista or Windows 7?
Anyway, compatibility mode is absolutely not needed on neither of these platforms.

Thanks for all the replies. I did do a complete re-install before posting this thread and even deleted the character creater before re-installing in case that was effecting it. My operating system is XP but for some reason the only way it would run was if I went into the compatability setup on the desk top tab and changed it to 98/ME. Then it would load and run until you went to start a new game where it would drop out. I have been putting of getting a OP upgrade until Win 7 came out as I didn't like Vista but I think I shall do that now and see how we go.Last upgrade for comp was 12 month's ago where it got: 2x Hynix 1GB/1024MB DDR PC3200 RAM , Saphire HD4870X2 2G DDR5 PCIE video card , new 550W power supply with 120mm Fan. Once again thanks for all the help.
