My opinion is that the biggest issue is that the ending is too long.


If the ending consisted of Shepard and Anderson bleeding out side by side, watching the Crucible fire and destroy the Reapers. . . . I would have loved it. Shepard's death would have made it bittersweet, at the same time demonstrating that he is only human and that sacrifices are necessary to win.  Then have epiloque scenes explaining how the battle went, and how things turned out (that changed based on how you played and your war assets). That ending would, I feel, have given the series a great finale. 

In short, if the ending had stopped at "Shepard bleeds out and dies while the Crucible took out the Reapers", I would have said it was perfect. 

oh well.
