How about some fans stick with BW for 15 years or so? Then they see a significant drop in quality in recent years (in their eyes)... how would you react?

This is a quote from a previous poster (bloodstalker):
"...then it's probably time to just admit that maybe the company I loved for so many years is just going in a different direction than my particular tastes care for."

This is probably how I would react. Besides 15 years is a long time, a drop in quality (in their eyes) or a different direction (in my case) is to be expected.

I have been itching for a giant robot shooter simulation for years now. Yet BioWare makes games I enjoy. I enjoy!

Let me repeat that one last time. I ENJOY

Some have been great. Some have been okay. Others have been mediocre. Some I just never played. The emotional attachment some have is disturbing.

That was not what I was trying to say. Stupid dyslexia!

I just kinda wondered if someone dislike most of the games bioware has made for half a decade, is that person still a fan? And what is he/she doing here.

You listed 3 games and said that was enough to bring in to question if they were a fan or not. I dont see how 3 titles out of 13 would be enough to do that.

You also imply that dissenting opinions should not be allowed in your last sentence so I have no idea why anyone is taking you seriously.

I think it´s fair. You will probably never agree and that´s fine. Many people have taken me seriously, which I am glad for. And it has been a nice and civil discussion so far.

Oh, the "fans"!

One thing I find surprising about them is when they play the ****ing game? They are all the time on forums, in all those endless discussions about "what they deserve". How much free time do they have?

I also see them point to other developers as far more "honorable", such as Bethesda and CD Projekt. I don't see why they don't just head to their forums if they're so convinced Bioware sold their soul to EA.

We have a lot more free time since we lack the urge to play ME3 for the time being.

Of course, this is all exaggeration. I'm sure everyone here plays multiple games and likely hold a job or two, has family, friends, social obligations... That doesn't mean we don't have time to come and vent via our only outlet on which we could possibly be heard. If we weren't "fans", we'd give up on the product and walk away. We're here because we want to fully appreciate it, but can't yet because it's a faulty product.

I dont think Bioware needs much help ruining their reputation. They are doing a sterling job themselves. They stopped communicating with their fans and started communicating to their fans.

I will stand up and say that I liked DA2 (It had issues, but was still fun).

ME3 was a cinematic masterpiece, let down by a quick ending with no explanation (Starchild). I am replaying it for all the good moments, the moments that Bioware succeeded in making me laugh, cry and yell with joy. I am one of those people who have played all 3 games, and enjoyed all 3 games.

I would point out that each game had its faults and plotholes, but all in all it has been a good ride along as Shepard.

My biggest issues with ME3 are with the rabbit out of the hat starchild, lack of real closure and inability to get the best destroy ending where Shepard lives without MP points.

Hopefully the Extended End DLC will help.

I may even get to play MP one day if they ever sort the internet connection out here in the sticks.

I was a fan. Past tense.

As I would say I WAS or USED TO BE a member of my family, if my family suddenly started worshiping mediocrity and throwing away every moral value in the process, chanting "artistic integrity, artistic integrity" before their newly found foul EA deity.

I am not a fan of Bioware. I was a fan at one point, but now I am not. Now I wonder if Bioware is a bunch of snobs who make snide statements, then retire to their back room to cry about how much customers don't like them while rolling in piles of those customers' money. "Boo hoo hoo, because of those big mean fans my multimillion dollar bed stuffed with hundred dollar bills is stained with my artistic tears."

That being said, I am a fan of the things they make, sometimes. KotOR of course. I would pay for a new Jade Empire without hesitation. Heck, I'd even consider Mass Effect 4 after all is said and done.

I also like Ender's Game, even though Orson Scott Card is an ass. You can like a work even if you don't like the people who made it.

You´re here because you care. That´s fine, just don´t forget to mention the things you do like from time to time. It´s a little bit one-sided right now. Positive feedback is important too you know. Otherwise how do they know what to keep.

I liked DA2, but it was a crap game for BioWare.

There's a ton (ton) of stuff to love in that game, but there's so much that's either bad or simply not good enough to have come from the best team in Edmonton.

I expect big things from them in the future. No more excuses.

Thank you for posting this, I have missed post like these. Posts that talk about the good things as well as the bad.

I think this is fair if a bit extreme (kinda funny as well, especially the chanting "artistic integrity" part)

You may be right. It is a testament to my frustration with BioWere (<-- pun intended) shooting themselves in the foot continously more than anything else. How many shells can be left in that shotgun, I wonder? And how long does it take for the brain to register the pain and damage that action is doing?

What exactly is a fan supposed to be?

Someone waiting for hours in pouring rain to get a glimpse of their star? Someone eagerly gobbling up whatever a certain studio throws at them?

Personally I like certain products, certain bands, certain directors, certain actors or actresses, certain books and certain tv shows. Does that make me a fan?

Maybe so, but I'm not losing any sleep over any of them screwing up of not meeting my expectations. I simply won't buy their next product or whatever it is they're producing. But I wouldn't boycott them either. If their next baby rises up to my expectations, they will get my support.

I think most gamers should stop being "company fans" and just judge the product itself. For example, Mass Effect 3 is a good game, but it had a lot of faults. First the journal was clunky and the side quest were equal parts boring and mediocre.

I notice there have been a lot of people trying to put down the supposed "whiners" or "complainers". Well in my field, these are probably the best customers I could ask for. I hate the ones who just nods and accepts everything. It just does not stimulate growth. Even worse are the ones who want to shut people up for complaining. Why even do that?

I agree. I consider myself a fan of great products, and for the longest time, coincidentally, BioWare catered to my demands for great fiction, and thus I became a fan of them too, since they put out brilliant game after brilliant game.

There was no reason to doubt them.
Was.
Past tense.

Any upstanding citizen and consumer with half a brain wouldn't put up with another company behaving like this.
And if you would, you are a big part of what's wrong with the world, you may join up with the fan clubs of Justin Bieber and Rihanna, at your leisure.

Yes.
It's strange, though - shouldn't one listen to the customers buying your product instead of the critics getting it for free?

I frankly think you need a balance of both. The criticism needs to reflect the products value as a whole after all. And as of now, it has been a little one-sided.

Yes they can, and they should. Being a "fan" is not positive in any way, fan being short for fanatic.

All the douchebaggery and rampant whine we have seen on this forum the past month aside, one thing we've certainly seen is fanaticism, and it is ugly as hell. The people who still complain are certainly fanatics.
