What dialogue will get Alistair to agree to marry Anora? Is this a good idea?

You have to get them to agree to it at Arl Eamon's estate. Suggest it to Anora when she asks for your support in private and then talk Alistair into it. Then at the Landsmeet, as long as Alistair did not execute Loghain (which, btw, is automatic if he was the one who duelled him), then they will still both agree.

As for whether it's a good idea, that's entirely up to you. I can't imagine it'd be a blissfully happy marriage and Alistair is always rather reluctant to take the throne to some degree, but the epilogues (which are a questionable source of info anyway) indicate it's good for the country. Depends what's important to you.

I say do it - it leads to one of the funniest moment in the whole game at the wedding ceremony...:lol:

FWIW, everyone in DA2 refers to the male Cousland as King. I expect they agreed to a power sharing arrangement after a couple of years.

Not power hungry? And I suppose a Great White is just another fish to you? :)

Loghain's take over of the throne had nothing to do with him wanting power, he did it because he was paranoid about Orlais trying to take over and thought he had to do it to save Fereldan from them

He wishes to protect Ferelden from Orlais, but he did it by leaving King Cailin to die, allying himself with the scumbag Arl Howe, poisoning Arl Eamon and imprisoning his daughter...

...it's rather clear to me that he lusts for power, it's simply that his ends of that power aren't selfish in and of themselves. However, many dictators who are considered "power hungry" honestly believed they were acting in their nation's best interests.

Very true you are about past tyrants believing they are acting in the best interest of their land.  Look at King Arland and what he did to the Grey Wardens and the reasons he had for doing it (per codex entries).  I personally believe Anora is simply a very good politician at heart and, although I don't like it at all, the best for Ferelden is to ally with her and marry her to either myself if I am Male Noble or Alistair.

Just my thoughts and agreement on this point.

I can't believe I'm starting with this again, but I thought Cailan was screwed anyway? And that Loghain would have had to sacrifice basically an entire army to even have a chance of saving him? Seems to me there's enough legitimately screwed up stuff to accuse Loghain of (the slavery being the worst of it, though I didn't see that in the above posts) that you don't need to get into stuff he had to do.

Probably because the male Cousland decided he preferred adventuring to ruling.
