Also I might point out to anyone saying the differences are due to outside customization: those who used custom headmorphs already have updates, because the people who created them already made them compatible. Those of us who have problems and didn't mod are the ones being punished here. Way to shoot the messengers and blame the customer.

I'm fine with hairstyles changing, thats realistic and natural, but the problem is that the face sliders are notched in the wrong spot on import. If you notch them over and copy the code back into ME2 on an ME1 import in that game, you can get the right facecode to take back into ME3. The problem is that it is importing from an incorrect code.

So I created a custom Shepard in ME1 and imported into ME2 without editing the face. I never got an error when importing into ME3, just a really bad face... Also it's the exact same face before and after the"patch". The character codes only differed by one character... And no, changing that character did not fix my Shepard.:crying:

What ME3 decided to give me on importing...:(:(:(:

Is anyone surprised that Bioware 'fixed' the issue by not fixing it?

It doesn't throw an error. Whether it's the correct face doesn't matter. Fixed!

I felt like my post summed that up well with images showing just how different things are with even the standard preset faces.

See the huge difference? They didn't even get the facial hair right they recreated them both completely. I want my studs back. :crying:

I don't understand what is happening but when one of your biggest selling factors is how your own custom shepard's can carry over each game they should be working. I don't even feel like recreating them. It was completely disheartening to look so forward to the game and having all six of my shepards not even import properly. I am so disappointed. :(

You got default face. Deleting the facecode from a saved game via Gibbed has worked for some people. However, using a 3rd party tool should not have been necessary!

This is not fixed!  Reopen your bug tracker!

Can't believe that the original thread on this has been locked and removed. This is all sorts of shades of disgusting.

Not to be rude fruton but what do you mean you can't believe it? Chris is a coward. Vague responses (or outright BS) and lockdowns is all he can handle!!  He creates a thread for us to report/vent about a known issue but does nothing to control the outrage for over a month and then when the issue is still ongoing after one of the most dismal patches ever to be released for a video game fails to do anything (which therefore makes the thread still valid to stay open), he like the coward he is locks it down rather then face people and simply points everyone to the following bullet points:

If your face has significant changes or you cannot import your save, please check these steps:

* The saved game you are importing should be the final saved game from the end of Mass Effect 2.
* The saved game should not have been modified in any way.

* If you are using the correct saved game and have not modified your face
code, please report your problem in the Technical Support forum for your
platform or contact our Customer Service. Thanks..

and his final point is beyond useless given what the link says about the import issue. If Bioware don't want to fix their own FU, why would EA?

I think this is it people. Bioware have officially washed their hands of
their own f**k up and are no longer going to do anything more with the
face import still being broken. That half as*ed effort by Bioware was
the final bullet in their gun and boy did they miss!! I would be lying
if I said I am shocked or surprised but sadly I saw the writing on the
wall when they released the game with such a massive problem. Bioware
are a disgrace.

Well that's fine, I'll keep my cash from being spent on Bioware/EA. They made their choice and in response, so have I.

Yes, indeed.  Can't import the preset faces if you used them.  If the ME3 importer doesn't recognize a face, then it uses a preset.  If a facecode was present, it ignores the face data which may not match.  The face data are the definitive ones - the facecode is merely a alphanumeric string shortcut to reverse engineer it.  The case permutations and coverage on this were not thorough.

I know, it's insane! If anyone wants to bring up legalities with BioWare/EA on ME3, that's what they should focus on. You have to pay extra in order to play MP on Xbox Live Gold, and that's not okay. I'm no lawyer, but there's gotta be something extremely wrong with that.

I'm curious. Now with Bioware having washed their hands of the face import debacle and it going unresolved, how many of you people here who are still affected by this still want to play the game?? Has Bioware's treatment of you tarnished the game for you?

I have a friend who I was talking to about this. He is doing something that I completely agree with. He's been playing Bioware games pretty much since they began making games. Baulder's Gates, Mass Effects, Dragon Ages, and more. They are sitting in a box in his room. He is sending the games to Bioware. He is also what is essentially a break-up letter, due to the way they have been handling this whole ordeal.

And really, although it is a little dramatic, I can't say I blame him. The one thing I can say about those of us who actually care about these games, and the universes, and the characters, and not just "Update my roster and charge me for a new game each year (I'm looking at you, Sports Games), is that we are passionate, but not entirely unreasonable. All we ask for is a little transparency.

I felt burned after DA2, but I still preordered ME3 because...well...it was Bioware. Brand name loyalty. This is something that is gold in business. As Warren Buffett famously said, "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin it." How they have handled the ending and washed their hands of the face import, their 5 minutes are up for me. I will not preorder anything from them in the future.

I have finished the game once already, but it kills the replayability that I cannot play with my canon Shepard, and I know the horrid ending that awaits. Playing with a different face is changing a cast member, and it was not necessary. This is something that can be fixed. If they don't, it's because they won't, not because it's impossible.

Hi Everyone.

Mass Effect 3 Patch 2 is now available for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. You can see a full list of fixes here. One of the most important fixes was for people who could not import their Commander Shepard face codes from Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3, this issue is resolved with Patch 2 and fans can now import their Shepard’s faces into Mass Effect 3.

I am seeing people saying that even though the faces can import, they do not look identical to how they appeared in Mass Effect 2. While the face codes do now correctly import into Mass Effect 3, due to improvements in things like shaders, lighting, textures, etc they will not look identical to the faces in Mass Effect 2. This was the same situation when players imported faces from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2.  The team has worked very hard to make sure that faces look as close to previous versions as possible. If there are small details you want to adjust, remember you can adjust your faces after importing before you start playing the game.

If your face has significant changes or you cannot import your save, please check these steps:

  • The saved game you are importing should be the final saved game from the end of Mass Effect 2.
  • The saved game should not have been modified in any way.
  • If you are using the correct saved game and have not modified your face code, please report your problem in the Technical Support forum for your platform or contact our Customer Service. Thanks.

Um no Chris, saves from ME1 imported into 2 gave you an identical looking Shepard (sames assets).  In ME3, entire facial assets were changed leaving many players unable to make their Shepard look right no matter what they do.

I'm going to get my Shep as close as possible, maybe try gibbed at some point, and play it. It's really disapointing. But I've been playing some ME1 and want to see it the whole way through. It just hurts my heart ending it with someone who isn't my shep.

Well, I'm going to try importing my Shepard's face into ME3. It didn't import at all last time, so I had to start from scratch. Luckily, I had been planning to modify her face a bit anyway and spent quite a bit of time in the PC demo playing with the CC. I came up with a face I really liked, and I just used that for my Xbox 360 playthrough (I play primarily on the Xbox).

This is the scratch-built face I made:

I find it sad that my default femshep appearance didn't even import properly. How can they get the hair wrong on a default shep?

Okay, so the import wasn't as bad as I feared, but my scratch-built Shepard was closer to the original.

I apologize for the crappy TV pics. I'll do a more thorough analysis when I have my PC-quality caps.

She also looks way better in-game than in the CC, but catching in-game pics are hard on the TV. You get the idea from the PC pics I posted earlier.

Edit for links not cooperating...

Same problem, am uploading screen caps from ME2 and pictures taken of screen from ME3's character creator. Honestly I didn't even know there was an error message before reading this thread, I never got it but my Shep has been ruined facially since day one. I ran through with default femshep once thinking "Oh, well when it gets patched it will all work." Nope. My hair color isn't even in the game anymore because apparently Bioware thinks people either are blond or have firetruck red hair.

I did some minor plot flag edits to this save, but even on my non-edited save it doesn't come up right, although with the other one it's just the default. Fun.
