Dude the bottom half is the default custom Shepard that you get if you either reset your customized shep or your import failed to transfer.  That's not the game's interpretation of your ME2 character import.

When I click on import ME2 character and that face shows up under accept imported face, that IS how the game interprets Shepard. Regardless if the system fails or not, when you import somthing, whatever you get IS the interpretation.

BTW I never reset my Shepard in ME2, and I never got a "failed to import message" pre patch, yet I still got the same face.

E-mailed customer support and got a boiler plate response with this link:

https://help.ea.com/...o-mass-effect-3

Not sure when this was last updated, but it's good to know they offically have given up.

Will I be able to make changes to my Shepard when I import?[/b]
You will be given the option to alter the appearance of Shepard, and you will be able to change class (i.e. Soldier to Adept) as well.
NOTE: [/b]Some ME2 saves will not be able to import the face-file of your Shepard. You will need to re-create the appearance when importing the file.

@the person who has EA suport alter their savegame file, do you have ME2 vs ME3(before and after) pics? I'm wondering if I send them up again, and get a different CSR, if I might have better luck.

Dunno if I should simply show it, but the eyes! So I'm just linking for now.

That's hilarious. I hope someone with an UglyShep can recreate that.

Yeah we know that.  Patch still shows wrong Shepard.  This has not changed.  Using 3rd party tools should not be necessary for an error declared fixed.

We do? What is the thrid party tool for that? Is there another post with details on this?

My FemShep looked very similar to yours......now in ME3 it imports her as a red headed white woman.

Yes, via Gibbed.  Check the links on the first page.

Customer support just told me to keep watching forums. When I told him/her that Priestly had locked down the threads declaring a success, and asked where else to go, I was told to wait for them to fix it.

I have a trans-script if anyone wants to bash their head on their LCD :P

Lol at Recon-hood bug. I looked like that when I saw Kelly Chambers. Poor girl, I'm now mortified I rushed to the collector ship to save her  - it appears she suffered a fate worse than melting

It has got something to do with the Recon Hood, I've seen others report it in the Tech Support Forum, here's one, so I know it's not an isolated problem with what I'm using.

So I figure it could be recreated as a permanent feature depending on how it is happening in the first place. Here's another one I took when I was doing the mission with Jacob.

no that IS the system failing to interpret your character.   Your bottom half pic is just the common default custom Shep.

Have you tried the USB profile workaround? It worked for my ME1 custom character and since the recent X360 update patch that fixed the import fails, I verified that the USB workaround made an exact match to my ME1 custom.

This looks like your only options if that auto import is still failing for you post patch.

lillitheris mentioned a really good test on whether to check if your Shepard is the same or not. Put your before/after pics side by side. Use your hand and cover from eyes up. Then use your hand and cover nose down. If it's enough for your eye/brain to detect a deviation, it is different. Whether it looks better or not is subjective, but if you notice a change this way, then it is objectively different.

Do this with the Kelly photos as an exercise.

I think we're on two different pages. Yes I agree that it's failing the interpretation, but my point is that even if that is the default face, the game would not give me that if it didn't think that's what it was. Hence why I said it is the game's interpretation. That's why I also added that I never recieved the error message saying that it was unable to import my face, it simply gave it to me like there was no problem.

As for the USB method, I'm trying to not use Gibbed with my ME Xbox saves anymore. I lost all of my Shepards  doing that before.

Sounds like you're having the same problem as me - the face I got offered as an import looked incredibly like preset option 1 for femshep. If it helps I made that character in ME1 and went through ME2 without editing but I did have a character code displayed on the squad team. Now you're not supposed to have that show in ME2, that's apparently part of the glitch. If you have a code showing in ME2 it sounds like you may benefit from using this gibbed editor if you can figure it out as it has been suggested removing the code will allow ME3 to read your face correctly.

At the risk of sounding like a parrot, if you have the option to, try loading your shepard from any alternate carreers you have going. I did that, and found a correctly importing face. Fixed my issue (sadly not thanks to Bioware, as far as I can tell).

Ah, **** it, I'm giving up on trying to get my Shep to import properly, it doesn't work normally or after using Gibbed to get rid of the face code.

I just hope BioWare deems us worthy of a proper fix at some point.

So, 50% done with BioWare, the other 50% rests on the extension DLC.

Edit -  sorry long post got somewhat left behind there. I didnt want to use gibbed either so I get that.

Not very likely! Everyone I spoke to during the first month didn't even know that the issue was being looked at, even after it was finally posted here, and not one of them knew how to report a bug to the right people. :(

Also to emphasize how important changing the eyes are. Studies have shown that people can recognize celebrities with 85% accuracy only by pictures of their eyes up. It doesn't matter what age they are. People can instantly recognize a young Clint Eastwood versus an aged Clint Eastwood only with his eyes.  Human beings are wired to recognize each other by our eyes.

Besides, if I can't have MY Shep, I'll just recreate some of the gorgeous ones other people have posted online.

I'm guessing you were directing that towards me. I'm pretty sure the Gibbed method will work, but I lost my ME2 saves once using Gibbed becuase Xbox wouldn't let me copy, only move. So when I was done modifying my individual saves somewhere along the line I lost my character saves. So at that point I was stuck either injecting them in a new Shepard or just doing a whole new playthrough. I chose a new playthrough in fear of possible ME3 import bugs. It all seems pointless now...

^ Saiyan Yes I was, sorry for the nonspecificness! That sucks, I havn't messed with it personally but it was my fallback anger-desperation plan. I had a feeling that a lot could go wrong with it with my inexpert grasp of moddage. Last thing I touch was Oblivion! I wish there was a way my fix could be used to help others :( I thought I had a Eureka moment going, it seems not.

If you feel like playing the game. Make a Vanguard. Punch stuff. Its still buggy as f**k :D
