Sorry to hear that.  If it works, it's great, if it doesn't...well...yeah.  More dissapointment.  (It didn't work for me either)

*shrugs* I actually have an odd sense of relief now I've crossed that line, my stress is draining away, lol.

Besides, if I can't have MY Shep, I'll just recreate some of the gorgeous ones other people have posted online.

That's great if you can move on.  I actually finished the game with my imposter Shepard, but I just felt something was off, and it was like a stunt double.  I reloaded ME2 to play Arrival since I hadn't before, and I was shocked to see what she was supposed to look like.  After that, I realized how much I wanted the original, what a bad*** she was in ME1/2, and what fun we had pushing mercs out of windows.  I really want her back for my NG+ Insanity playthrough.

Judging from her face expression, she is not amused. Neither am I.

I stopped playing with Barbies when I was 12.  No offense.

If you feel like playing the game. Make a Vanguard. Punch stuff. Its still buggy as f**k :D

I actually wanted to do that to change up my style. I'm usually a Infiltrator/Soldier Paragon/Mix Male. I decided to go all out and make a Vanguard Renegade Female, but I couldn't stick with it . Everytime I got into dialgue it felt weird because my Shep would never yell at an innocent civilian or squadmate.

Apologies about the irony of asking in this thread, but how do you get a custom avatar please? ^^

DA allows you to upload characters and use their portraits. So, make a character(, then replace its portrait with one of the same type and dimensions).

I booted up ME3 to see if faces are importing properly now. (Haven't really felt the desire to replay it at all since that ending, but curious about this.) In my case, the answer would be no. Behold:

EDIT: For the record, I don't actually need my Shep's face to import correctly, as I painstakingly remade her face a while ago when I realised that the face code originally generated by ME2 wasn't accurate (even though the face itself was).

Your ME2 picture looks like someone I actually know.

The ME3 translation - ah geez!

Oddly, with a difference in lighting, but the first and third pics did look quite similar...

So, to summarise what's happened so far, we get an issue where characters do not import correctly, wait a full month for a patch to come out, find that it simply does not work for everyone, then get told that this is because of 'improvements in things like shaders, lighting, textures, etc', which, quite frankly, many examples posted, with pictures, would seem to deny, as they show Shepards which look BETTER in ME2 than in ME3 and/or show differences which appear to have nothing to do with those 'improvements', and also get told that, 'if there are small details you want to adjust, remember you can adjust your faces after importing before you start playing the game', which ignores that there are options that can be chosen for ME1/ME2 Shepards which CANNOT be chosen for ME3 Shepards and DO NOT IMPORT, even after this patch, even though, for some of them, you can use a third party piece of software (Gibbed save editor) to get them back, and then the o0fficial 356-page stickied thread about this issue is locked and unstickied as if this issue is now solved.

You know, due to the way there has been a distinct lack of communication during this whole thing, to the extent where it looked like the official stickied thread was being studiously ignored, except for a few platitudes being posted by people who point-blank refused to answer any real questions regarding this issue, even such answers as 'I don't know' or 'sorry, I can't answer that', I thought my opinion of EAs handling of this had already gone as low as it could possibly go.

I was wrong.

Oh yeah, saw that too. When I went to EA support page. The skeptic in me can't help but wonder when it was added. They actually emailed you the customer support webpage? Gee whizz.

From the e-mail I got:

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

I have reviewed your email and I understand your concern regarding importing a save file from Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3. I can understand how disappointing it must be. Please go through below given link regarding importing your Mass Effect 2 save file to Mass Effect 3.

Here is the link: https://help.ea.com/...o-mass-effect-3

I hope this information will fix your concern.

Maybe they do to you because you didn't spend so many hours playing the character, I guess.  However, many differences are immediately apparent to me:
1) cheekbones (all sunken and ugly in the ME3 one)
2) nose shape
3) eye colour (brown vs. green)
4) eyebrow shape
5) mouth shape (down-turned vs. slighty up-turned at the corners)
6) mouth size (ME3 lips are far thinner)
7) mouth height (ME3 lips are higher)

That's not even touching the fact that the hair colour I used for two games is no longer available in ME3... No, instead of letting me have the hair I clearly already wanted (since, you know, I chose it), they decided to give me the option of purple or cyan hair.  Yay?  Really, add crazy colours to the game if you want, buy please don't take the existing ones away...  (And yes, there are other red colours, but they come across as more dye-jobs than the natural-looking carrot-red I chose.  Pregen FemShep can have it, and I can't.)

My condolences...

What a horrible creature it turned out to be in the third incarnation...
Well, at least the eye shape seems to be correct.

Yep..... clearly this issue is fixed. It's just lighting and textures... clearly.

I'm so bitter right now it's not even funny.

I noticied everything you listed when I first saw the pictures. Of all the problems with her face, I personally think her nose is the worst. I cringed as soon as I saw it.

Dude the bottom half is the default custom Shepard that you get if you either reset your customized shep or your import failed to transfer.  That's not the game's interpretation of your ME2 character import.

Oh, thanks. Didn't know that. Why do you think it is so? I didn't get any error messages btw (PC), is it because of a certain characteristics of my face? Maybe it's super-whiteness? Is there anything I can do to let the game give me a chance with the import? I did the fan tool before patch. It was similar, but not playable for me.

I have no idea what happened there.  This is one of the more unusual examples.  It looks kinda like one of the default presets, but the nose...  It converted to a default preset, and then 'enhanced' the nose.  The jawline is wrong.

It is one of the default male Shepards. Start up a new game of ME3 and cycle through the presets. You'll see it. What has worked for some people is deleting the facecode from the save game with Gibbed. Check the first page for links.

I'm curious - if I were to create a face I liked in ME3, then used that code in ME2, would it look the same as in ME3? And if were then to further get the code converted to slider positions for ME1, would it look the same as in ME3?

If so, one way around this, if you didn't mind starting over with a new Shep, would be to create the face in ME3 and work backwards, and just recreate the face in each game.

Not sure if I was clear there, but whatever, lol.

Try going into the save file you're importing in Gibbed's and deleting the face code, then saving (back it up first though!!), and then give importing a go. Worked for me in the only one of my saves that was broken. Although I think tbf the image you linked to is possibly the closest you're going to get to your original - *why* they had to change the CC so much and then try to blame it on changes to lighting and texture is beyond me... :pinched:

I tried that myself.  Here's what happened.

I literally lol'd when I loaded the ME3 facecode into ME2 on the CC.

Thankyou! Once again my basic understanding of forum use shows glaringly

Vhalkrie- I know right? I tried playing through a bit with Impostershep, intent on enjoying the experience and it felt hollow, even though I genuinely tried. I laughed derisively at all the lines, the action felt stupid, the voiceovers patronising. Since being able to play with my Shep again and get the comparison I can say through experience it makes ALL the difference to people like us (this thread, no-bug tolerance sticklers!) Suddenly I am immersed, suddenly I care about the story again *cough*. We shall see about the ending in time but at least I will enjoy the gameplay.

Saiyan - you sound like an angel compared to me! My renegade femshep is no dick but she aint afraid to do what it takes to get the job done and loves stepping on toes and yelling at people. Being a vanguard just solidifys her blunt but precise in-your face approach (literally!). Can't see myself playing campaign with any other class. I tried infiltrator in ME2. I fell asleep when I ran out of ammo. Or maybe it was trying to be a Paragon that did that ;)
