I'm curious - if I were to create a face I liked in ME3, then used that code in ME2, would it look the same as in ME3? And if were then to further get the code converted to slider positions for ME1, would it look the same as in ME3?

If so, one way around this, if you didn't mind starting over with a new Shep, would be to create the face in ME3 and work backwards, and just recreate the face in each game.

Not sure if I was clear there, but whatever, lol.

I tried that myself.  Here's what happened.

I literally lol'd when I loaded the ME3 facecode into ME2 on the CC.

Not backwards compatible.

LOL, just as bad I see.  Oh well, just a thought.

Not really. Technically, you'd be a slight ticks off on the sliders in one direction for ME2.  I say this because, I determined a close enough code using the YAML method + inputting the YAML code into ME2.  Came pretty darn close because after the patch came out the code it generated in ME3 differed in the cheek width, make up, hair color, eye color, and chin width.

Though, that also is dependent on whether the same assets are present in both.

This is truly perplexing. I feel for you guy and gals who get the wrong face. Thus far (on the 360) I have imported three of my Shepards (one male two Female) and the results have been to the best of my recollection, the same faces. Sadly, all I have is a sh!tty camera phone which I used to try to confirm whether or not there was a difference. So far everything has worked for me.

Please put that through the grinder again? I wonder how much it will degenerate :P

Why do CC faces look so different from in-game faces? As terrible as that ME2 faces looks, it looks way worse during Lazarus.

You can't imagine how shocking, horrifying and funny it was when I put in the facecode and that popped out.

After thinking about this, now I'm curious. As an experiment can you try marking that ME2 file as complete and trying to import her in ME3? I'm wondering which face would pop up in 3.

You mean put it into ME1?  haha, that might be fun if I can figure out the slider positions.

Good idea.  I'll try that a little later.

Priestly makes face import thread. Priestly closes face import thread. I make new face import thread. Priestly closes thread and tells me to post in existing thread. HERPADERP.

If he's locking down other threads, sure would be nice if he'd sticky this one.

He only closed down the first thread because that many voices carry 'weight' and make Bioware look bad. Boohoo Bioware.

Yeah they don't look too much alike. On mine, she sort of looks like a distant cousin of my ME1+2 Shep LOL~

Good grief, that's - wow. It all depends on if you pick options which are in the same place for both games, I think - the first Shep I tried this with worked (almost - eyebrows excepted) perfectly and the second, I needed a strong dose of mind-bleach afterwards...

The one that worked:

The lighting was a bit off in the ME2 shot, but I forgot to take any more after that. And I always knew I was going to change the hair in ME3, I hate the way the classy style looks now...

Oh, and I used this mod to get eyeliner in ME3.

I have a knack for picking options that break code. Good thing there are professions for people with my bad luck. ;)

Vhalkyrie use the masseffect2faces or the masseffect tools to get the slider positions for ME1

So, right now I've shifted my confidence from BioWare to fan made fixes. Keep up the great work guys!

I still think we should keep raising the issue to them. Maybe a fix won't come around but maybe BioWare will at least know how big of a F up the ME3 launch has been.

I noticied everything you listed when I first saw the pictures. Of all the problems with her face, I personally think her nose is the worst. I cringed as soon as I saw it.

Thanks, I'm glad it isn't just me!  The nose is appalling, but I really think the cheekbones are only slightly less bad.

Very nice work there. She is beautiful. Thanks for the tip on the eyeliner. I modified mine in Gibbed.

So, to summarise what's happened so far, we get an issue where characters do not import correctly, wait a full month for a patch to come out, find that it simply does not work for everyone, then get told that this is because of 'improvements in things like shaders, lighting, textures, etc', which, quite frankly, many examples posted, with pictures, would seem to deny, as they show Shepards which look BETTER in ME2 than in ME3 and/or show differences which appear to have nothing to do with those 'improvements', and also get told that, 'if there are small details you want to adjust, remember you can adjust your faces after importing before you start playing the game', which ignores that there are options that can be chosen for ME1/ME2 Shepards which CANNOT be chosen for ME3 Shepards and DO NOT IMPORT, even after this patch, even though, for some of them, you can use a third party piece of software (Gibbed save editor) to get them back, and then the o0fficial 356-page stickied thread about this issue is locked and unstickied as if this issue is now solved.

You know, due to the way there has been a distinct lack of communication during this whole thing, to the extent where it looked like the official stickied thread was being studiously ignored, except for a few platitudes being posted by people who point-blank refused to answer any real questions regarding this issue, even such answers as 'I don't know' or 'sorry, I can't answer that', I thought my opinion of EAs handling of this had already gone as low as it could possibly go.

I was wrong.

They made an artistic choice to make your Shepard from ME1 unreproduceable in ME3, perhaps as some nod to absurdism, dadaism, or some other ism. If we were smarter, we would totally get it. Regardless, we should respect their artistic choice to make ME3 Shepard completely different from the previous incarnations of Shepard. You get this sort of thing with Art. Would you expect Van Gogh to paint the same subject twice? Or Monet? Would you expect a comic book artist to draw a character the same way in every panel? Would you expect a filmmaker to use the same actors for the same roles in a multi-story franchise? We haven't been given an import glitch, we've been given an opportunity to "reimagine" our Shepard as something new. Now if only they'd given us red, green, and blue skin tones...

Well they did only give us 3 complexions, which are slightly different, but pretty much the same...

Mine kinda worked... she transfered over, but she looked bloody ugly LOL. I think I'll stick with her new improved look and just pretend she had a makeover whilst incarcerated.
