My Shep got flipped-turned upside down
And I liked to take a minute just sit right there
And tell you how I became so ticked off at you, Bioware.
Okay that was all in good fun, but really though...I miss my Sheps face. This new person...I don't like her so much.

This is what I hoped back when I started my first ever femshep playthrough last month, from ME1 itself. Look how that turned out. -__-Vhalkyrie wrote...

Don't let that prevent you from enjoying ME1 and ME2 as FemShep

That works only if your ME1 import has a remnant abandoned face code from the ME2 CC.hbk1982 wrote...
I found out why my femshep didn't translate properly from ME2 to ME3.The code in the squad screen was wrong. All you need to do to fix this is start a new ME2 game with face you want to import and then before you accept to start a new game.go to the custom face code and copy that code. That is the correct code to use in ME3.It worked for me.

Also, derailing comments are derailing. I politely request we keep the discussion on Mass Effect faces and their import problems, rather than the 18 hours a day I spend playing Mass Effect and not showering.

Ok, I've seen a successful ME2 to ME3 match for the first time (Mireisen's femshep) so now seems the time to have a crack at it myself. But I'm gettin a little lost in the progress here. Can someone recap the best way to use the available tools to create a matching femshep now? Or perhaps update the Lazarus project guide site?
I must admit I'm not quite up on this either, but if someone has a workflow, I can definitely update it in the OP. I do suspect that there's a lot of manual work still involved at this stage.

Thanks for that info Vhalkyrie. Your work looks good. Guess I'll have to wait for the 360 version of the Lazarus program.
Using the Gibbed save editors, XBox 360 save files may be converted to PC format, used with Lazarus Project, and converted back to XBox 360 format. I have already done so.

From left to right, ME2, ME3 default, ME3 Lazarus Project:

So, according to Bioware, what you see in the middle pic is due to "improved lighting and shaders." Even though...the pic on the right still appears to be lit and shaded. Hmmm.
Well, the eye shape still looks better in ME2, but I eagerly await Pheonix's new ME3 mappings...
Anyway, I also figured out that even though the "Save ME3" button doesn't appear for me on Lazarus Project, I can still just use Ctrl+S.

The eye shape in ME2 looks more artistic. Yay art.
Look at how much more lifelike the ME2 iris is.

Update: I've nearly finished my femShep map. Just a few more things to do. You can see progress here.
Awesome, can't wait. Yeah, the pics on your blog show a lot of improvement, particularly the eyes. On the pic I just posted, with the old mapping, the eyelashes were restored to one eye, but not the other as much.

Yeah, ME2 was a visually beautiful game all around. Why the ME3 visuals had to suffer so much...I have no idea.

I think we can conclusively say there is nothing about the new engine that would have prevented accurate translations of ME1-2 faces. The additional LOD points simply means interpolation between the ME2 vertices when ported to ME3 with more vertices. We are able to approximate with decent results (and if we're left to finish on our own, it will get better), but it's not a jump to say the developers could have made the match with at least ~5% standard deviation accuracy based on interpolation.

I'll say that Chris definately isn't wrong when he points to new lighting and shaders. You can see it throughout the game and I think it's great work. However, there's definately something to be said for what we're producing and how that doesn't completely fit the description. If you look at your or my eyes on our Sheps via ME2 or Lazarus, the iris is only about 2/3 visible. On all my imports, you see the entire iris. So while valid that the new environments do alter the appearance, the faces are fundamentally different.

Yes, the evidence for that is rapidly piling up. Look at mireisen's pics, and my eyelashes pic.

At this point, I have a 95% match, and it's good enough that I've just accepted that she got an eye/butt/boob job (model shapes have changed too) before turning herself into the Alliance in order to spend all the Cerberus creds before they were confiscated.
I am still experimenting with textures, and trying to find the same hair color.

I'm sure many would like something like that. Of course, most of us are willing to put in effort, but if someone could tell us what exactly to put an effort into, for example, what things should be brought over from ME2 savefile headmorph before using Lazarus Project, it would be really great.lillitheris wrote...
