Embarrassment? Nah they wouldn't. After all, they have artistic integrity

Artisitic integrity means broken imports, and none of your choices making any difference.

Bioware is so awesome.

Correction: Bioware WAS awesome. Now they are a joke after DA2 and ME3 and the half cooked SWTOR. Can't wait to see how bad Generals II will be.

Kudos to the people working on this. You deserve money for doing Bioware's work for them.

What's the version of Lazarus and the map you're using? r17 pretty much fixed the eyelashes for me.

I think this is the ducklips phenomena that a few of us are having.  Is yours an ME1 or ME2 originated femshep, and does she have lip shape 1 on the slider?

I created her in ME1 but did go back to ME2 to recreate her, just to see if it would make a difference. She has lip shape no 8. However, I just realized that after the patch, she imports into ME3 with lip shape 6 (weird?). So I redid her with the correct lip shape, used Lazarus with the recommended .exe and r17 map, and she did turn out a lot better - as in, looking more like a person. I especially like how the eyes turned out. But for some reason, with LP the lips look like they're located lower on the face now, or maybe the nose is shorter - in any case, the nose-lip ratio seems off, which is something I'd like to fix.

Some screens (will update with more comparable shots later):

Yes, it is modded.  You can find the values in my Gibbed Notes.

Your shepards got a makeover due to their being new face proportions and updated textures and graphics. I mean they look similar at least, it's unrealistic to expect people from a game made years ago to look the same in a game created today.

Hmm..you probably should have posted this BEFORE the fan-made fix came out that makes ME3 Shepards look the same as in ME2.  You might have been able to get some people to believe you back then.

It's unrealistic NOT to expect the same faces with updated graphics and textures.  It's unrealistc NOT to expect the same proportions.

Also "makeover" generally means "looks better".  If I got a "makeover" like this in real life, I'd get a new salon and write a nasty review on Yelp.

You wouldn't give your stylist a big tip if they dyed your hair a random color without your permission and trimmed your eyelashes off? Picky picky! XD

My purchase of ME3 was conditional on the face import patch from Bioware. Since it doesn't do what it was supposed to do, I'm not buying the game.

See how simple stuff is when you protest product quality by not funding the manufacturer for garbage that doesn't do what it markets. Why all of you haven't refunded your games for those that don't import satisfactory faces, I will never know.

You guys paid $80 for a broken piece of entertainment. AND now you are putting in hours of extra work to get it to function the way it was supposed to out of the box. So basically you spent money to provide YOUR time working to fix a product YOU bought.

I posted a squad screen comparison with my Shepard, Kate the other day.  Here's an in game shot, the lighting doesn't match at all but the angles are similar enough to see that the Lazarus version is definitely my Shepard from ME2.

I imported with the vector parameters checked but not the Scalar.  Only adjustment made in gibbed on the Lazarus pic was to increase the HED_EyeShadow_Tint_Scalar value a bit.  Further adjustments need to be made to the makeup and hair color but  this shows just how off the pure ME3 import is for her.

This gave me an idea. (Hopefully, it's not a stupid one.) How about we start a sort of community service thread where unlucky femShep users who're having trouble could post their ME2 save or face code so that people with free time and are willing to help could try to give back a proper ME3 headmorph?

I think this is a great idea, but unfortunately I won't be able to participate.  In fact, after this I'm going to have to force myself away.  Crunch time on my project, and I'll pretty much be spinning 14+ hours per day to finish before the beginning of May.

Also, I suggest going to the PC Tech Support forum and say that you are dissatisfied a workaround was required for this.  Especially people on the PS3, who will only ever get a fix if Bioware addresses it.  This is a hack/workaround for Bioware's bug - don't let them off the hook.

I wish you all good luck in your restoration, and I hope that I've provided some inspiration not to give up.

I don't blame you.  If I could do it over, I wouldn't pre-order.

The fan fix does get my faces back, so that's why I'm keeping the game.  But yeah, it's no thanks to Bioware.

All I can say in my defense is...it's such a bizarre thing for them to have gotten wrong.  Of all the things I thought might go wrong with ME3, Shepard looking like a different person was not one of them.

But, I've learned my lesson.  My trust for Bioware is gone.  Though this was fixed for me, they didn't fix it.  Even worse, they still deny the existence of the problem, which makes it highly unlikely that they ever will fix it.

So yeah, there was a time I trusted Bioware, but not anymore.  I can't buy their next game trusting that it will work, and I can't gamble on the chance that I'll get lucky and a fan will create a fix for a critical game element that's broken.

Thanks for all your help, your gibbed tips were very useful! And your pics of your Shep are a great example of how big an improvement people can make.

It was very generous of you to help out DoctorEss, but yeah, it could turn into a full-time job doing that for everyone.

Good luck on your project!

I'd recommend opening up corresponding ones on the PS3 and Xbox tech support forums, too, because those problems are slightly different in (basically) needing a BioWare fix. You can just refer to this thread for examples and the fix.

And thanks for all the help, Vhalkyrie!

I can participate for the month of May, and maybe a little bit of June, by which time, I guess many who need a fix would be here, and I'm sure a few more willing individuals would be available. :)

And good luck with your project! :D

im just pissed that they dont have the me1/2 default femshep face model in mass effect 3. it always imports the slightly different cusom default

Before the patch, i would get a tweaked version of the 1rst preset whenever i imported ME1 & 2 default. Now it's even worse:

                               ME2                                                                                    ME3

I really hope they fix that. I only use the original (ME 1 & 2) default.

Yep this is the face I want to see back in ME3. I have no other char but her. I'm hoping for a better translation of her tomorrow using the Laz tool.

How would Laz tool translate for such a face, considering that none of her feature are really available - except for mouth, eyebrows and hair - ?

It has fixed all kinds of problems – maybe this one too? :) Or at least showing that you can't might be yet another strike for BioWare.

Interesting. I'm going to test out and see if the default femShep of ME2 can be recreated by Lazarus.

StarAce, if you're still offering, I would be over the moon if you or someone else could have a crack at my shepard (er...) because I have tried all variations of Lazarus versions and the xmls and I always get ducklips and hamster cheeks.

If someone can make my ME3 shepard look like this with mapping and gibbing:
