I think the problem might be that developers are tired of hearing certain segments of the gaming population whining that they aren't fully taking advantage of their Sandy Bridge-E hexacore CPU and Quad-SLI GTX 590 set-up, while ****ing about people that don't that kind of disposable income "holding them back" by daring to purchase the cheaper product that gets them the same of amount of entertainment.

(By the way, I just built my first PC two months ago - I quite enjoyed it)

So are you satisfied with playing a game that is basically from 2008?
Consoles have reached a point where they hold videogames back.
Just look at the limited FOV in MP. Because consoles can't handle it everybody has to suffer from motion sickness.

People being satisfied with junkfood games that seriously lack technological quality. That's the cancer killing gaming.

Have you ever bothered to actually compare the cost of necessary PC components with your average console?

I guess you have typed your wisdom on some kind of rig. So it's sitting right there before your nose and all you need to do is swap some part of it every four or five years to keep it decent.

I've invested about 300 bucks within the last six years.

I'm fine with it myself, the graphics still look good Mass Effect 3 looks better than the first two. Not everyone's computer can handle newer graphics and not everyone wants to upgrade to a new computer or shell out the money for new parts. My computer is about 10 years old but I don't use it much for gaming because I have an Xbox for that.  Also you have to know how to install the parts, not everyone can do that and if you can't install the parts you have you either need to have a friend that knows how to or pay someone to install the parts for you which costs more money so yeah going with consoles is a lot cheaper and better

I wonder why it is that PC players *always* sound like the most whiny, nasally-voiced gamers there are. And frankly, while they look good, it doesn't seem like that big of a change.

WE do ? arent the console players the ones that always complain when pc get something extra ? oh the irony

2008 is so 2000 and late .<_<

I just built my own pc myself.  You know which game I enjoyed playing the most on it? The Longest Journey-  Games are far more then what your graphics card can handle.  In fact the one game that made my system struggle the tiniest of bits was TW2 and I loathe that game.

There's far more to gaming then how good the games look. Hell a game can be beautiful without a lot computing power.  Okami is still one of the most beautiful, fun, and flowing games I have ever played.

I still think high end PC's just don't appeal to that many people.

The games industry is all about the casual player these days, and the casual player doesn't have a high end PC. For various reasons. My friend didn't even realise you could use a gaming controller on a PC until last week.

Obviously your sales charts have come from somewhere, but I honestly don't know all that many PC gamers apart from those that play WoW. Maybe theres more in America or wherever but in UK we play consoles mostly.

Actually, yes, I have. The StealthBox w/ 250GB hard drive retails for about $299 right now.

Let's start with the basics - $50 for a cheap but decent enough mid-ATX case. That'll buy you an Antec Three Hundred. We'll go cheap and buy an i3-2100 , that's $125. $75 will get a 250GB 7200 RPM hard drive (f*cking Thailand floods). Very optimistically, you might be able to get a H67 motherboard for $75. The PSU doesn't have to be beefy - add in $40 for that. Memory and a DVD drive will go for another $40.

So a bare-bones build that might let you run, I don't know, Modern Warfare (the first one) at low graphics and an 800x600 resolution (remember, inegrated graphics) will run you over $100 bucks more than the console. If you want to actually play games on this computer, that's another $100 bucks for a graphics card that's a couple generations obsolete (the horror, the horror!) but will still get the job done.

$500 vs $300. You know, if you just bought the console, that's three more brand-new AAA games you could buy, and probably enjoy just as much.

Silly EA, it's modding what makes games live long, not multiplayer.

I've had one RRoD, Leni - fortunately while still on warranty. And that's with a first-generation white brick from 2006.

I mean, hell, technically -any- of these things you're buying could also fail after the warranty expires.

yeah I can do that too. I can plug any controller via USB if I want, then I can plug my rig to my big TV.
Nice try.

Like I said though most people don't want to shell out for an expensive rig or build one themselves or pay someone to upgrade their computer good for you if you can do it but many can't

and then when more games are out, your spending more money on console games then you would on pc so even with that logic consoles are more expensive

I didn't even have RRoD I had my disk drive slowly die over and it was also the old brick.  I just have to say at of all the consoles I've owned it was certainly the most fragile piece of ... pie I ever had the displeasure of owning. I mean the thing only fell down once and it was turned off!  I barely know anyone whos 360 hasn't burned out on them eventually. The lifespan of that thing is crud.

And conversely, you could probably get about a dozen new AAA games from a Steam sale or  the wonderful Amazon Spring  Sale!

And, I just love the title of this thread. Decripitude. It just rolls off the tongue. Decrepitude.:wizard:

Aside from prettier graphics and the ability to download and create mods, the games play more of less the same between the two if the porting is smooth. Console or PC, the medium doesn't detract from the story, gameplay, or even appearance whatsoever if makers put enough heart in the game. That's why I for one am excited when "Witcher 2" comes out for Consoles since there's been so much attention to detail in porting it from the PC.

Do I expect it to be as bawling-my-eyes-out-beautiful as it is on PC? No.
Do I expect it to be as just as fun, engaging, and thought provoking? Yes.

We don't all have the time, money, or technical know-how to properly purchase, update, and maintain a high-quality PC. As much as I love gaming and being able to mod and download 2nd hand content when I can, I have more pressing matters to attend to.

If you can do all that, good for you. I mean it, you're doing something I can't hope to accomplish. Now I politely ask you to shut up and play. This whole debate is nothing more than attempts to massauge collective egos.

Yes, I can wait a while and get them dirt cheap whenever Steam puts them up on sale, but by that logic I can also wait and buy 360 games. ME2 was down to $20 just a couple months after release.

Dude the graphics card on this chart costs $400, if you bought a graphics card so insanely overpowered that it would not be economically prudent for developers to develop games that can fully utilize it, you have noone to blame but yourself.

What do you expect from ancient hardware ?
256 MB (PS3) or 512 (x360) ? My PC already had 1 GB six yers ago.

And you don't need to look far just look at this graph, here is your answer
As you can see consoles were "outdated" already on release.

1gb 6 years ago? sounds like you wasted your money.

No offense, but your posts seem kinda ignorant as hell.

Contrary to your statements, you do NOT need to upgrade a gaming pc "every time a new game comes out", nor shell out hundreds of dosh for a single part.

Witcher 2, Crysis 1 and 2, hell even ArmA2 runs decently on my fairly old rig.

Like I said before, it can be in excess of five years or more without any upgrades whatsoever. And look it up before dismissing me as a PC elitist.;)

Also, why is this rubbish thread still not buried in the Off-topic section? So far it has been only an inflammatory bait:huh:

Case

NZXT GAMMA classic - $36

Power Supply
Corsair CX500 V2 - $60

CPU
AMD Athlon II X4 640 AM3 - $100

Heatsink
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - $28

Motherboard
ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO AM3 - AMD 880G - $118

There $580 and this should last a lot longer than any damn console.

I will also mention I play with a Q6600 and a HD5770 at 1920x1200 and I play Witcher at max settings (minus SSAO and uber sampling) at 35fps all the time sometimes better depending if something like an army is fighting.

Is that the pre-flood price? When I clicked the link, it said that was $150.  I'm not even joking, if you can find one of those for $60 I'm buying one now.
