The real cause of the difficulty complaints has nothing to do with the game

It's the marketing. Until the "This Is The New ****"-style campaign, it was marketed as a tactical RPG. Then somebody at EA got spooked, and it got rebranded as HALO with gore, dragons, lightning bolts and nudity.

Only it turns out that while all that stuff is there (thank goodness!), it's still a tactical RPG. Some players who didn't read the developer interviews, who only saw trailers online and on TV, weren't expecting that.

It reminds me a little bit of how the back of the Star Wars Galaxies box said "Be a Jedi!" only, in all likelyhood, you couldn't. So they had all these players who wanted to be a Jedi, and it was an unrealistic goal for nearly all of them. It took them four major revamps to "fix" it.

Not that anything needs to be fixed with DA:O. I just thought I'd share my opinion on where the difficulty angst comes from.

There are already many threads on this forum discussing the difficulty of DAO. Please use one of them to discuss game difficulty. Thank you.
