im curious which reputation suits shepard best, i always play as a renegade and have always picked earthborn and ruthless, so which one suits the story best without counting the bonuses you get to paragon and renegade points?
which reputation is best?

I don't think there is any one best reputation. The story mostly plays out the same, except for a background encounter at some point and occasional observations characters make during chats...
I personally picked Colonist War Hero for my paragon. Role playing a special tactics operative saving the galaxy, I don't bring my mother into the story, or any other one for that matter. Being sort of a don't look back at the past loner, an enlisted slave trade survivor from a distant colony seems to suit my profile. I encounter old acquaintances, reminisce and help'em out due to my nature, but my eyes are on the present.
A gang background from Earth seems to mundane and inexotic. And while sole survivor has that feel of sombre loss and die hard feel to it, war hero at the Blitz seems to fit more to my psych profile...It's not exactly as meaningless as an experiment gone awry and it has a feel of nobility to it.
A sole survivor scenario in real life would break me, while a short bout of selfelessness before realizing the danger, seems more my m.o
Spacer seems to displaced, even for me...Feels like you're a shadow..just a dogtag in the rank and file, unremarked by the brass. And butcher of Torfan makes me cringe...Never in real life have I mustered the guile to do whatever it takes to reach a goal...

It's pretty well balanced between choosing Paragon or Renegade, and it all depends on how you view both Shepard and the story itself. I'll venture to say if you tend toward Renegade, you might not be as happy with Paragon, but still they both suit the story well and I don't think there is a canon side.
What I like about both Renegade and Paragon is that neither of them are "extreme". Renegade is kind of a no BS wise**** who gets what needs to be done, but he/she isn't a tyrant or villain by any means. Paragons are more driven by their moral compass and consider the bigger picture, fairness, etc, but they also aren't a goody two-shoes push over or anything like that. Either side portrays a strong and resolute character, which is what Shep is at his/her core.

Well, there's no "best" suited reputation for Shepard, they change the dialog quite well and give you little extra quests based on your backstory though.
If you're asking my personal opinion, I absolutely adore the Colonist quest in ME1. Talitha was such a good character, and her situation hit me (and my Shep of course) right in the heart. The Earthborn one, meeting up with your old gang member, was pretty fun, but it didn't seem to have the same tension in my opinion. Spacer's... felt a little detached. It didn't feel like it had much to do with your Shep at all.
My personal favorite backstory is Colonist/Ruthless. After having his/her colony attacked by batarian slavers, they went to war on Torfan and slaughtered slavers in the name of revenge. It's a Renegade story, obviously, but I've always liked the flow of it.
