Like let's say the game starts with your character's family members being murdered by someone and something important being stolen from your town/village. While your character chases this person, he would encounter the world in war and he could choose to help people with this big looming threath or he could choose to pick the options that furthers his own personal goal.
Well this is more of raw idea. But I would love it if the plot would have elements like this.

I wanted to ignore the blight until I had found Fergus and killed Howe. Would have been great if you could do that and in ignoring the threat Arl Eamon died or something big like Orzammar fell.
Not that I'm complaining about the story on DA:O, I thought it was perfect. <3
But I like your idea for DA3

Not so much a dilemma of choosing between personal goals and the greater good but personal goals influencing the greater good would be great.
Major decissions your PC makes that have an impact on the events in het game

DA3 will clearly continue DA2's theme of having to choose between factions with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, all of which are led by lunatics.
Clearly.

Same here. I wanted my noble to cut a path of destruction until Howe's corpse lay bleeding at her feet.
Didn't help that the actual confrontation with Howe was... disappointing for Human Nobles.

Hehe, well there you go!
Glad you like it. I just think that developers could compromise this way for people who want more personal story and for those who just wanna be big-goddamn-heroes!

Yeah, I wanted to remain neutral but the game didn't let me. You know, try to clean up the mess that they made. Heh.

Depends, if they can pull your strings well enough. Let's use EXTREME EXAMPLE:
Either you chase the down the guy who has good information on your personal objective, or you try to save the kittens from the house he set on fire!
But yeah, it's not always a big dilema for everyone! Like I am more of a dog person.

I understand what you are saying. But I'm afraid BW will not go that far in your freedom of roleplaying. DA3 will be story driven like DA2 I think, but if they keep their promiss you will have some influence in the outcome of things. (slightly different outcome because of your actions)
That's why I wrote what I wrote.
I for one really like freedom of choise (good/bad, nice/snarky etc.) in a RPG. If there is some inpact in the game that matters and may even influence outcomes of major events in het game, and maybe even the ending, that of course would be perfect.
But BW will not go that far

Yeah, I guess.
Maybe they won't go so far, but I'd love to see it come together. I too like "tough" choices and would like them to see them give us some. I just hope the choices matter bit more in DA3, like they did in Origins.
But seems like most people wouldn't like this idea, as this thread only has 2 stars.
Heh. I'd wager, they rather see some straight forward story with easy line of logic.

When I read what the people of Bioware wrote there will be more "descisionmaking" for the players that will even have some (hopefully major) impact.
Your idea for having some more personal quests for your PC is very good I think. For BW that could be very doable if they are not main story related.
edit. And with my last entry I mean that it could be a PC related quest that for example gives some more background about your character in one way or the other.

Added stars to the thread. Never think about rating. If I reply that means I think it's interesting.

Haha, thanks.
(I don't really care about the stars, but was making a conclusion that some people didn't really care for the idea)
And I guess it's more doable that way. And I'm sure they will tie in the personal reasons for the bigger plot. But I'd just wish you had to choose between personal reasons and bigger picture.
