Can I make it in the Landsmeet without Vaughn's vote? I'd rather leave an anti-elf bigot in his cell to rot, even if I'm not an elf. I'll pretty much have all the other votes I can get out of rescuing people out of the dungeon: the noble's son that was on the rack, (attempted to) rescue the delirious templar that's a brother to a Banness (but is insistent on muttering in his cell), and will be springing Anora out and (claiming to) support her. I also finished off the Crow quests.
Can make it without Vaughn's vote?

Even if you lose you will still end up dueling Loghain, which is really what decides the Landsmeet.

I know, I just wanna prevail anyway, to seem more legitimate. If I can win the vote while leaving the racist in his cell to contemplate his bigotry (and navel), I'd like to.

Well I read that completing the Crow's assassin questline in Denerim will give you another vote, maybe that will cancel out your killing of that crooked noble?

Yes it perfectly possible to win the Landsmeet without him.
1st play through on my Human noble warrior i Shanked him as soon as possible(after all it IS prison so shank or be shanked) had no idea of his importance as hadn't played the city elf origin yet just didn't like him as soon as he started speaking

Yes it is man the side quests that have you playing the guy saving people from howe give you massive support and mention the each story with the options and you should get the vote. The crows gives you more padding

You can win the Landsmeet 4 to 1 without Vaughn.

Exactly. I never rescue Vaughn (and during my city elf run he was dead before then anyway) and I've always prevailed in the Landsmeet. If you want tips on how to win the majority of the votes, pick up the strategy guide, as it tells you good things to mention and things to stay away from (or just save and reload until you get the outcome you want). But save the noble on the rack and the templar in the cell and you'll be two votes closer.

lol dont kill him!!!,
that anti-elf bigot is worth 25 gold if you do a deal for his locked chest key.
Same with not killing a certain creature in the deep roads.
& yes my PC has no morals or ethics when it comes to cold hard cash, at least on this play through

Why not both? If your coercion is high enough, you can persuade him to give you the key before you free him, and then kill him right after.
Thing is, if you kill him w/out persuading him, why can't you just loot his body for the key? Strikes me odd, indeed.

Kill him, the vote is a cake walk, just don't use the slavers as one of your points and state that the DS are the true threat first. The vote is as simple as that, no micro management required.

I killed the bastard. Though I have no interest in the city elf origin, I know what he does so he will die every time.
It is possible to win without him, and despite Anora opposing you. Save the noble's son and the half-mad Templar in Howe's dungeons and tell their family members about it (in the Gnawed Noble pub). Do the Crow quests. Open by emphasizing the Blight is the real threat. Then I picked the options to tell the Landsmeet about the slaver operation and Howe's tortures, and everyone except that bald old guy you apparently can never convince sided with me.

Why bother winning? It's more fun watching Arl Eamon, Leonus Bryland and Bann Alfstanna beat up on Loghain. He was solotanking all three of them for about 5 minutes on my playthrough, while i sat back and watched the brawl unfold.
Edit: Vaughan's vote is also useless, it's only needed if you intend to win without Anora's support, with Anora's vote, you're practically gauranteed a win or a draw.

Best thing to do is ask for a reward get the key then kill him. 40 gold may not have been vast amounts at that point but I gave it to my mercs and they were happy.

I've never gotten Vaughn's vote and I even rescued him once. I don't think he bothers to even show.

Out of curiosity do you get more experience from killing a bunch of Loghains goons ?

I think i slit his throat, or left him in there...
didn't affect me much, although this is my first playthrough. I had a ton of people on my side, Loghaine evened his votes against mine, so i had Allistair lop off his head at the end of the duel ;p (not that i had a choice, it seems that if Allistair is the person you select, t hen you can't recruit loghaine?)
