Yeah that's a pretty good example of the kind of thing I mean. The best part is it wouldn't be that hard to implement most of the groundwork is already there.wilzoon wrote...

New stuff - cool
Free - cool
This is a good start for adding content to multiplayer and a nice gift from bioware but it isn't what the multiplayer needs.
I still firmly believe what we need to see is mission based maps that are long rectangles in shape rather than small squares. Something to progress through with small objectives like "group hack" or "single hack" doors (just one example) to progress farther all leading to a main objective that could end in big fights to complete said objective (Maybe even bossfights?) Of course I wouldn't expect that kind of DLC to be free it takes a lot more effort than just re-using models, textures, etc from single player like this pack (in part) has done.
Something like "Alien Swarm" would be awesome.
Now, get it done Bioware

Bioware has used reinforcment packs as the universal term for recruit/veteran/spectre packs since the demo.
The cards were gold in the leaked pic so chances are they will be rares.
also, some bright spark said the dlc was called reinforcment pack, lost your glasses much?

And I wouldn't be surprised if they were the ultra-rare chars of each class either, since we already have common, uncommon and rare. But theres some hope they are just rare because of the leaked image showing gold cards instead.

I believe BF3 players already have five Soldier class characters.Kosmiker wrote...
I guess this are the last chars we will get, glad they look great. I'm saying this because if you look at your char selection screen there is only 1 empty space on each class and there is where all these 6 chars fit, one on each class.

Correct good sir.
Tecinally nothings stops them from implmeeitng a scrolling character screen, using click arrows to the left and right of the character spaces. This would allow them an infinite room to expand.
Much the way the gun selection screen works, only seeing 5 charaters at a time.

Bioware are going to make a tonne from microtransactions, and they know this. They're not giving us stuff free because they care about their fans, they're adding more (relatively) easy to patch in content with no initial cost because they know it will generate far more money long-term than it would for charging for it outright.
People don't seem to realise all the tiny transactions they make add up to a ridiculous amount of money. I'm not saying spending money this way is wasteful, we all need hobbies and £12 a week or so on Bioware points isn't a lot if you work full-time, but you'd do best to understand many people end up spending hundreds of pounds on games like these. Bioware knows this. They're cashing in on the fact.
The new DLC looks like fun, can't wait, but it's not being given to you as a gift. It's a lure, a piece of bait on the end of a hook, and enough people will bite.

And it's a lure only if you bite. Unlike with say Lair of the Shadow Broker or From Ashes, you'll pay only if you want to using the microtransactions because the content itself is free. Paying up for this is entirely optional.
I've unlocked all of the currently available classes in MP and am only missing 5 weapons, yet I've never paid a single cent towards the use of Bioware points to get reinforcement packs ingame. The lure in my case is that I never need to pay more than what I already have for the game to get such content, so in this case it really is "free".

Ah, forgot about the BF3 soldier, I don't have it so I really don't know how it looks, does it fill the 5th spot then? You guys are right, they could even decrease the size of the chars and squeeze another one (much like they did back in ME2).
As for the microtransaction vs Free DLC to be honest I rather have the Free DLC and being able to buy stuff with credits earned in game, and it's people choice/hard money if they want to spend hundreds of BW points on packs. There will always be some extreme cases but thats like everything in life... gamblers anonymous lol. (I feel like a gambler everytime i buy a pack).

Obviously.
My point is that enough players /will/ bite to make this "free" dlc a real cash cow.
It's not a gift, it's a clever business strategy. Bioware shouldn't be praised for giving it to us free, that's all.
Plus it won't take long before people complain about the "unfairness" of the random unlock system...
I'm like you, I'm more than happy to play the game and earn the unlocks without paying, but that also helps generate Bioware money. The time it'll take for me to get the items I want is more costly than working the same amount of time, earning money, and buying Bioware points. And all the while we're playing the game, people who know this or simply have no problem spending their disposable income this way will be paying more than they would have for the dlc were it not microtransaction based.
People like you and I keep the game alive along with all of those who play /and/ spend. And the more we play, spending or not, the more will join (as it is a very fun game) and the more money will be generated.
Your time spent playing this game to grind the unlocks is indirectly generating capital for Bioware. They're clever cats, Bioware.

No, all the packs you can buy now are in the broad category of "reinforcement packs." I know this because of something that rhymes with "I play regularly with several members of the multiplayer team."KarmaTheAlligator wrote...

There is no special pack; "reinforcement pack" is just the catch-all term for the various packs you buy in the store. The new cards are being folded into the Veteran/Spectre packs, just like any other weapon/class card.KarmaTheAlligator wrote...
So, still no word on whether the Reinforcement Packs will have a time limit and how much they'll cost?
The new weapons, characters, and equipment are available as rewards inside Reinforcement Packs.
Surely that means there will be Reinforcement Packs.

Err...you do know they can resize and reformat things right?
And it's not just "some hope". There was also a post on these boards by Bryan (I think) saying they wouldn't be super hard to get.
