Heard that person say, "You don't look like a so-and-so," or "You don't look like a such-and-such," (I'm using so-and-so and such-and-such as ambiguous terms for whatever your real first name happens to be, by the way.)

Anyway, to be perfectly honest, I never had that happen to me before. Nobody has ever had the audacity to tell me to my face that I don't look like a John. And honestly, I'm happy that it hasn't happened yet...But that doesn't mean I haven't had the same thought about certain fictional characters. Whenever I've looked a picture of Miranda Lawson, I've always thought that Miranda looks more like a Catherine or a Cate, (I know it's obviously weird, replacing the "K" in Katherine and Kate with a "C" but honestly it makes look more like an exotic or unique name,) also ironically enough I've only recently thought that Diana Allers looks more like a Miranda, basically because I read her name aloud on the Mass Effect Wiki and accidentally referred to Diana as Miranda instead.

By the way, I know this is just a stupid thread about names and labeling people (real or fictional) with different names based upon their physical appearance, but, honestly what can I say? I'm a very bored man, with way too much time on his hands!!!

I know some people who don't get why "Dick" is the short name for Richard, and I've never had a satisfactory answer for them. I just told them that some guy or some girl probably wrote that name in a book a long time ago and that he or she is probably dead, now.

Anyway, better to have your name be associated with a phallus, than have be affiliated with feces and the washroom.:P

I would agree with you, if that was my surname.

That's cuz Garrus needs a strong, manly name. And what's the manliest name you know, Hank. It's gotta be Hank.

Hank is just another name for Henry though, and Henry's probably the least manliest name out there.

I have been told I do not look like some with the first name I have. I have been told my nickname matches me best. So yes, I understand what you are saying. Interesting part is, I go by my first name predominately. Only family and close friends call me by my nickname.

I know what you're saying. The first name on my birth certificate is John, but most of the people who talk to me in real life and get a chance to know me, call me "Johnny," because it's just a nickname they like to use. And I'm okay with that. The only version of my name that I don't like is "Jonathan," (I know I used that for my Bioware Social Network Username, but honestly the concept of writing "John Shepard," was too easy and too common,)  also, even though "Jack," is another word for "John," nobody calls me that. I guess nobody gets the concept that Jack=John, but whatever, it doesn't bother me THAT much.

If someone looks like their name should be something different I will keep calling them what I think their name should be. There was a dude that I just referred to as "Paul" when I didn't know his name and then just continued calling him that after I found his name was Josh. I don't really know why that is.

Even though you probably won't admit this to yourself...I think, nay, I believe that there might be some small part of you, that enjoys being insensitive, to people who just want you to get their name right. But in all honesty, I've gotten people's names wrong before in the past and it's often just because I couldn't remember them, but nowadays if I don't remember somebody's name I'll just look straight into their direction and I'll use the word, "you," in place of their name until I ask for their name again later.

I don't really like the avatars of John Shepard. They're just...meh. You know what I'm sayin' Punk!? :P (I never got why people enjoy sticking their tongues out at other people. I mean I stuck my tongue out once at a black girl, and my foster brother yelled at me, and told me to never do that again and so, I didn't. Anyway, I know I'm using the childish, smiley-face sticks out tongue icon, but honestly I'm just using it to mock you, because I'm a trickster like Stan Lee's Spider-Man, himself.)

what people think a person with a certain name suppose to look like is their point of view.
I think its stupid that people expect others to look like their names.

Well, of course not. You'd have to actually be born a chick, and not only be born a chick but be born a HOT chick for that matter.

I'm guessing that either bothers you, or it doesn't.
