Red dwarf stars could have produced systems with intelligent life that has already risen and fallen. We might not be alone, but then other life forms might not have developed the technology to space travel the long distances either. We might not develop them. It is conceivable humans could destroy ourselves before then unless we get our act together and stop trashing our own planet. Other worlds could have similar problems.

Hawking's quote about ET life existing and it being hostile isn't as ominous as it sounds, really.

He's just saying what Ashley alludes to in ME1. Every space faring species is their homeworld's apex predator (by necessity) and just like us (yes, we're the apex predator of Earth), they would naturally view other space faring species with trepidation and suspicion.

That doesn't necessarily mean that they are out to exterminate others no matter what... just that they wouldn't trust us, just like we wouldn't trust them. The possibility exists that over time, cooperation and coexistence would win out.

Exactly. The technology to spaceflight is not far off, it is underfunded. We will travel faster than the speed of light, I promise everyone that. There is nothing that humanity has accomplished without time and effort.

I don;t know if FTL speed is possible cuz the law of physics says we just can't which is proven in Sweden or Switserland. Maybe in de future we can. But for being able to fly at FTL speed you need an unlimited source of energy. Any ideas what we can use for that? :P

The current laws of physics. Our scientific understanding has been turned upside-down more than once in human history. I very much doubt that it won't happen again.

Scientists are discovering exoplanets constantly. Out of so many solar systems in this galaxy, ours can't possibly be the only one to have life. We're not even 100% sure yet that Earth is the only place in our own solar system to have life- Europa And Enceladus are possible candidates for life. It's neat to think about.

All these worlds are yours, except Europa. Attempt no landing there.

lolcan you imagine how ironic that owuld be if they actually existed and we discovered them.
Bioware would have to explain to the alien species why they thought blowing up relays would be a good idea lmao

That's not at all what she said. To conclude that our planet is the only planet in the entire universe with intelligent life on it is the absolute height of human arrogance. We are monkeys fumbling in the darkness.

Ions can flow positive to negative, hence why + -> - can still be considered conventional current.

Laws of physics are not written in stone, so to speak. Einstein's equation is great and all but it can be broken, especially with the use of negative mass in the equation. Michio Kaku talks about some of it. There is not enough evidence to say that you can travel faster than the speed of light but if history has taught us anything its that new evidence comes with new technology.

In other words, people keep saying things are impossible now but then are proven wrong at a later time when technology advances to allow it.

I am pretty sure of it that we are not alone i this Galaxy. I know it has ALMOST nothing to do with Mass Effect. But i just wanted to tell this. Many of you may already know we are not alone. But here is the conclusion:

There are over Billion stars in this Galaxy...
Every star has a "Solar System" And every star also has a "Safe zone" That is a zone where life can exist in a safe region around the Sun. for example: Venus is too close too the sun.. So that is a danger zone because it's too hot. But Mars is too far away from the sun because it's too cold.. There are also different types of suns (3 types as far as i know). You have the blue suns which are very hot so the safe area is around where Mars is located. Then you have the yellow suns red suns. which are colder then the rest. So that means that the safe zone is closer to the sun. So if there are over Billion suns with solar systems. there must be life somewhere in the Galaxy. But it isn't said that there are planets located in those "Safe Zones".

We are not alone...
That what i think at least..

Please reply..
I may have forgotten some info but i like talking about this subject :D

Thanks.. :wizard:

Actually i'm pretty sure Mars is still considered to be within the "habitable zone".  Also keep in mind that there are other ways for celestial bodies to generate heat that goes beyond just distance from a star.  It is an extremely popular theory right now that there could be life on some of jupiter's watery moons.  The gravity of jupiter makes it's moons literaly expand and contract and it is believed that this is creating a sort of friction heat effect that is maintaining warm liquid water beneath the icey surface.  I don't know the details but i know there is lots of talk about missions to send probes to them to drill into the ice and look for life.

Personally i believe the UFO phenomenon has already proven the existence of extra-terrestrial life.  There are simply way too many cases where there is no prosaic explanation for what was witnessed.  Cases where the only possible explanation remaining is extremely advanced technology under the control of something intelligent.

Indeed. The mere thought of the Earth orbiting the Sun was once reason for being branded as a heretic.

Have you read UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record by Leslie Kean? It was absolutely fascinating. She just laid out all the facts, and the eyewitness testimony was amazing.
