Well, I think my face looks fine! Looks just like he did in ME1 and ME2. AND I was able to tweak it! :D

Thanks, Bioware!

As requested:

Esperanza in 2! No facecode, since she's an ME1 import.

And in 3... I totally failed at getting a decent picture with my camera at screen technique. Oh, fraps, someday I will download you.

Image IPB

I didn't realize how much I missed that face and how much I mangled it in my hasty reconstruction until now. She's back to being blunt and no-nonsense.

....Which means my theory about it going live with multiplayer extras is officially full of hooey.

Edit: Heh, even some of her mild renegade scarring transfered.

Maybe you could go into "Windowed" mode so you can use PrintScreen and then past into Paint?

A clarification question for people who have got theirs to work:

Is the import directly from ME1 to ME3, skipping ME2?
Or is it a ME2 to ME3 import, skipping ME1?
Or, finally, is it an import from ME1 to ME2 then to ME3? (this is what mine will be)

and its the ****ing same after patch....WTF BW, did you even try to fix it?

I'm pretty sure this patch was meant to fix imports from ME1 primarily and some imports from ME2 that didn't import the face as well, not ones that imported but the face looked wrong.

Something tells me they aren't going to be bringing back old face assets that were removed in case it messes up all the faces that did come out correctly or that were built with the ME3 creator. It sucks because i expect my stern but cute canon shepard will look so strange when i get the patch for 360 tomorrow. There is only a sliver of hope that she comes out correctly >:(

Mines are from ME1 to ME2 then into ME3.

for those of us for whom the patch does not work (I have to wait until tomorrow for the xbox patch, skeptical though...) and who bought this $70 or so CE coaster from Gamestop, what legal or consumer recourse do we have? I say the bunch of us for whom it didn't work find a different way (other than posting in these forums) to make as much noise as possible. Any way to return the paperweight?

it imports a face that looks like the original - I mean by that that it has a similarity.

THE PATCH DOES NOT IMPORT MY ME1 - ME2 FACE

It worked. Looked just like ME1-2 with a few minor differences due to the better textures.

ME1 to 2 to 3.

No it didn't. It didn't do anything the YAML method didn't do. That's not what people were expecting.

This patch is hit and miss. No clue why it works for some and fails for others. This makes no sense to me.

Probably low if you got it release day. Waiting a month to return an opened box is generally not going to allow you to return it anywhere. Thus another reason why I was pretty pissed at the lack of communication on the subject by BW once it started coming up into that date range. You could always try to return it, but the store won't be obligated to accept. You can and should always complain at places (where applicable) though as to how EA/BW have behaved on the issue and encourage your friends/family/listeners to steer clear or cautious of  their wares as a result and take their customer response seriously when it comes to any purchase you make with companies in the future. If enough people did that then the industry itself would self-correct, but it's a beneficial solution for individual purchasing decisions regardless.

The pessimists were right. The patch did NOT fix the face import bug for me. I STILL get the same wrong face I used to get before the patch.

ME2:
Image IPB
Image IPB

ME3:
Image IPB

List of things totally wrong:

1. EYESHAPE - UNFIXABLE (No such eyeshape in ME3);

2. HAIR - UNFIXABLE (No such hair in ME3);

3. EYELID/EYELASH CLIPPING - fugly and UNFIXABLE (due to difference in eye positioning in ME3);

4. SCAR - UNFIXABLE (not the Renegade scars, but the trademark Shepard scar; absent in ME3);

5. Eye color - fixable via Gibbed;

6. Makeup - theoretically fixable via Gibbed or Texmod, but I didn't manage to.

For me, the patch was exactly ZERO USE. I got better results with YAML + Gibbed.

And sure as hell, Mr Priestly the "Community coordinator" is STILL absent from the face import thread HE created.

The imported face is at best a rough approximation. When I click on custom I lose the import so I cannot edit it.It is close enough that a few edits to hair style and color might be good enough, but clearly the import is not my Shepard.

was this patch supposed to fix the 'romanced Liara in LotSB' flag?

... did it not recognize if you did that or did it make a difference? I noticed it had no romances or whatever on my attempted import, but didn't even think twice about it after not being able to play with my character anyhow... ugh

Seems to have fixed the one char I tried that was an unaltered ME1 -> ME2 import. She imported into ME3 no problem, with face code exactly matching ME2 (I could tell because I made the face in ME2 and then converted to sliders for ME1) instead of giving me an error or completely wrong face. I think it may have selected the wrong eye type (a result of sticking to the ME2 code exactly) but other than that, seems okay.

It's not listed in the notes, is all I can tell you.

They seem to have erred on the side of releasing a smaller patch quicker. Rather than waiting even longer to release a patch and letting the issues that are addressed sit.

Face Issue:

It worked for me. The imported face looks almost exactly like after using YAML method, which was already very accurate. (I still changed hair and makeup, cause in life you also change your style sometimes) For people claiming that patch didnt work for them, I'd say Shepard also didn't look exactly the same after importing from ME1 to ME2. As for people who messed with Save Editor in ME2 to get some exotic eyes and haircuts/scars, which was not standart options in the game, to create (sometimes ugly) "unique" Shepard: what are you complaining about? If you used eyes/presets , whatever not originaly supported by ME2, you can't expect ME3 to import it correctly!

@Chugster:
No, it didnt fix the LOTSB Liara flag for me, so I had to do it manually again.

Just a note from me: Did anyone also notice some minor changes in the Prologue (Earth/Vancouver), like some NPCs in cut scenes moving/staying/looking/acting slightly differently, then they were in release version?

Someone over at the "Issue importing faces into Mass Effect 3"-thread tried deleting the facecode from his save using Gibbed's save editor and it actually worked since the game then tries to approximate instead of using the corrupted code.

My character was created in ME1 on Xbox, played halfway through ME2 on Xbox then exported to pc. Completed the game and tried importing in ME3 but instead got some random mexican with no resemblance to my Shepard. After deleting the facecode and then retrying the import I got an exact match.

I'm not sure this is universal but we should spread it so people can at least try it. My guess is that it'll only work for the Shepards that are completely off. Not those that mildly resembles the originals since that mostly comes from changes in the editor.

Also, even though I'm very happy right now this **** is not acceptable. Me and all of those who still have issues have been treated like dirt. Shape up BioWare.

Looks like the 'corrupted facecode' thing is a ME2 bug; I have two near-identical femshep ME2 playthroughs, with the same face, but for some reason the facecode for the second playthrough is the facecode for my male shep. This means if I try to import it into ME3, I get a random stranger for a face. Deleting the facecode worked fine, but I think the only way for it to be 100% fixed is if ME3 stops looking at the facecode entirely.

Same here, may I ask what you mean by "do it manually" ?, are you using a save editor ?.
