I've become more and more fustrated about this game and lack of respons or acknowledgement of issues.

Basicly im having major lag and from what I can tell reading these forums i'm not the only one.

I've been searching for solutions and come up empty pretty much.

I don't have issues in singleplayer, constant 60 fps (recorded with fraps). Multiplayer it's also constant 60 fps.

But really.. how am I supposed to solve this things with zero support from bioware/EA?

Usually there would be like traceroutes and latency you could explore but the game doesn't support none of it. How can I know where the fault is?

I'm trying to be as forthcoming and constructive as possible here but really i'm just about fed up with the hole thing. I love the game and i've played many good rounds but lately the lag has just ruined the hole experience for me.

I guess I got my moneysworth just with the singleplayer experience, but I guess i'm just really disappointed with the implementation of the multiplayer. If it doesn't get fixed soon I would just have to move on and join the "I hate EA fanclub".

The real problem is that PLAYERS host the matches and not EA/Bioware. So it's running off someones PC and connection that way EA doesn't really have servers/bandwidth to maintain.

Matchmaking doesn't account for different world regions so you can easily be playing someone from Russia which I have.

You best bet would be to host your own public game and wait for people to join. I know there are different groups of PC gamers from around that world that post on the multiplayer forums you may want to see if there's anyone in your country.

I was thinking it was something like that but truthfully it could be any number of reasons. What you're saying is very plausible but still speculation.

Your idea of getting more players from the same region looks like sound advise, but you got to agree with me that the game has a funny way of encouraging it.

It's peer to peer. What did you expect? Of course it's lag. The crappy matchmaking system connects you with people all over the world instead of letting you select your own region.

This.

The only sure way is to host games yourself, that way at least you won't be lagging.

I had the same problem. I play on Clear wireless service and get about 6 Mbps down and 1 Mpbs up with virtually no packet loss and decent ping. But I have huge amounts of lag unless I'm hosting. It takes a little longer to match up, but I have no lag issues anymore.

I have lost connection in literally 9/10ths of the mp games i have played - often in the last couple of seconds of the last round. ALL of the multiplayer games i've played have suffered ridiculous lag and choppy gameplay. The multiplayer is a F*cking joke.
I can play all manner of other games just fine, but Mass effect? Nope.
Can't even play singleplayer now because my DLC from the collectors edition doesn't get recognised when i constantly lose connection to EA servers.
I wish i could get a refund. :(
EDIT: Also the matches that I host often fail because of lost connections to the EA servers.

Australian here - I figured the lag was due to poor matchmaking, and i'd like to see EA/Bioware implement a better system. Other peer-hosted games (for example, the bad Call of Duties) at least try to match you with players from your region first; in fact, every game i've ever played with peer hosting does this.

It should be implemented, because Mass Effect 3 multiplayer is actually an enjoyable meta game, which could keep me going until the next full game in the universe...but not with lag like this :(

I've been experiencing these kinds of issues as well. I haven't lost connection too many times, but the amount of choppy gameplay is ridiculous. I can barely move without being glitched through something. I've been glitched through the map about five times already, appearing in continuous freefall (in the map where Cerberus troops can jump down from a high pipe) and looping back up to the top, glitching through the bottom, walking around outside the map etc. I've even died before my Biotic Charge activates, sending my corpse in a biotic charge against my chosen enemy.

It is laggy to the point of unplayable, and I fail to see why it should or would be like this.

We need a region selector. I'm sick of playing with guys in the US when I'm in Australia...

How hard could it be to give you the option to only connect with players from your own country/close region? That works flawlessly in other games.

A program like game ranger would work perfectly.
The system being used now to get players into a game is broken.
I keep ending up is Russian servers all the time, and I am in Australia.
Then add dropped the EA server crap, and this is starting to look like a cluster ****

Pluuuueeeeaaasssseeeee add filters to the game browser.

I'm in Australia as well and i end up in American servers all the time. I'm at my wit's end because multiplayer is unplayable. they need to fix these issues soon or I will never buy a game affiliated with EA, Bioware or Orgin again. My patience can only put up with so much.

Give us an in-game ping indicator.

You can't play FPS with any semblance of competence when you have over 100 ping.

Second this. A region filter would be welcome - it's almost required.

It would CERTAINLY be required if you play funny hours for whatever reason (eg you work the graveyard shift, or insomnia, or LE INTERNETZ, whatever) and almost all of the servers are for countries set six hours behind you in the time zones.

Just for a bit of an update.
I've solved some of the issues I had. Not 100% but I think the game is much more enjoyable now.

I found out much of the lag I was having was actually slowdown caused by having Vsync enabled. It's on per default and can only be disabled through adding "useVsync=False" to GamerSettings.ini. I got some tearing happening now but it doesn't interfere with my aim so much.

Obviously hosting the game myself helped a lot, especially when playing at odd hours.

I've spent hours on googling solutions. It's really fustrating when troubleshooting is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Techsupport for this game is a joke. Where's the FAQ? I bet EA support get the same questions over and over again. Why not post possible answers on these forums so we atleast have some options to try out.

Something to note: though hosting may prevent EXPERIENCING lag, unless, again, your squadmates are relatively local and you have a good connection, all your squadmates will get lag instead - potentially enough for them to be disconnected (the hosting player has left)... leaving you to solo the rest of the run.
One sure way of seeing that coming is when your squadmates start running into walls (the computer hasn't received the "okay, they've stopped running" information), or standing still.

today i finally managed to join a friends game, but had lag pretty bad, making it hard to play without dying. I dont mind dying when its due to my own bad playing or forgetting to look behind me, but seriously when your getting killed by something thats not there 1 minute, then suddenly appears, well thats just annoying :(

Am I the only one experiencing *massive* lagging on multiplayer, nowadays????? never happened before, at least not this frequent. I can't finish two matches in a row, without getting lag. Floating out of the map, over the map, under the map, or everyone else running into walls while I seem to be the only one "working properly". It's annoying. I tried hosting, and searching games, I get lag in whichever I choose. My internet connection is fine, cause like I said, I didn't have this before. It all started after Earth dlc. Just wanted to know if it's something global, or if it's just me.

I haven't played in a while, well since Vanilla Multiplayer release. I had no lag issues in the Demo, I had no Lag issues with the full game in Single Player or Gold. Now that I've started playing again playing on Silver yeah, that's OK, a bit of lag here and there, but I expect this. My computer isn't made for gaming. Go onto Gold, and all hell broke lose it's like trying play Cyrsis on Ultra Graphics on a 1GB Ram computer. Almost inexistable. Just like you I never had this issue before. Even on the older maps I get massive problems. Right from the start though the game has had memory leak and bad one at that.
I can play Skyrim on High Graphics which is completely open world barely any loading screens unless you're going in and out of dungeons with no difficulty what so ever and only the odd lag spike when they is a lot of fire present.

Like you agian I can't play two games in a row without my computer saying **** you.

Seems like I'm not the only one then, bumping this thread bc I hope for our sakes, this lagging issues get fixed at some point. We can't keep playing like this, literally, it just doesn't work. And I do love playing mp, just not like this.

You're not the only one.  What I thought was player incompetence turns out to be massive lag spikes.  I'm not used to dying -- I usually burn through matches without suffering a lot of damage, but today has been bad.  One second I'm shooting at something, the next second, I have something next to me that wasn't there before.  It's awful.

I've been getting unplayable lag, myself - I'll drop down to like... 2fps every other round, EVERY GAME... It's very frustrating, and I'm sure my team mates find it annoying as well. :\\

So do I mate. I drop down to about 5 FPS sometimes hitting 3 FPS, never going above 15 FPS. But, the only difference is, I can still manage to come out on top of the leader board with this lag... Don't ask me how, I just do. Lol. I even have a screenshot. Lol.

I got 120,000+ points in a game where my FPS was 5 - 10 most of the time.

Good to know I'm not the only one out there :[
