Orzammar is the taint of this game (for me).  I am just finishing up my third playthrough, and as much as I love every other zone in the game, the idea of doing a 4th playthrough right after I finish this one and having to run Orzammar start to finish in the near future makes me want to vomit.

So I'm looking for another good RPG that will run on Windows 7, aside from NWN/NWN2.  Any suggestions?

My suggestion: You should probably move this to Off-Topic.

(oh, and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Though I don't know if it runs on W7.)

I feel the same way about the Fade portion of the mage tower. It's so tedious if you want to fully complete it.

See my first playthrough I didn't MIND Orzammar, because it was my first time... but on my 2nd I went there straight out of Lothering, and I kept thinking to myself "I can't believe I got into this game so much before." It took me a week and a half to slog through it at an hour a day. I just COULD NOT play longer than that without feeling bored and just wanting to get it over with.

Now on my 3rd playthrough and I saved it for the end. And the same thing is happening - I wish I could just skip right to the climax and get the hell outta here (yes leaving XP and all the goodies behind), because it absolutely ruins the game for me.

And that's what makes me sad. Everything else is just insanely awesome.

I feel the same way about the fade during the Mages of Circle Tower quest line.

lol, im still on my first playthrough, i got the day it came out and within the first 2 weeks i got to ozrimar - where i still am to this day, i refuse to play through it even once. its HORRIBLE!!!!

you know what game i really like? RISEN, its really cool to me even though it got average reviews. if you like older games i heard a lot of people raving about a game called PLANESCAPE ARENA, id like to try it some day. also, i stopped by gamespot yesterday and there were 2 or 3 rpgs that just came out, one u can literally turn into a dragon at any time! it looks really cool i just dont think my pc can handle it.

and how the hell did this get moved to off topic?

For me, it's definitely the Fade in the Circle Tower. I'm on my fourth playthrough, and I really should do the Circle next, if I want to have any chance of controlling what Wynne's skills, but... the Fade. D:

there is nothing "off-topic" about this, since when did our government start running the forums?

i'm beginning to struggle in the "wanting to play further" category. i still haven't done ironforge on my second play through. i am not looking forward to it. i've been putting off the circle tower, too. the initial awe of this game is quickly wearing off.

Have a look at "vampire blood lines: the mascerade". One of the most interesting non fantasy rpg's out there.

I found it to be refreshing to switch genres or at least themes every now and then after completing a strong games such as dragon age.

For me, the circle tower main quest was just horrible. in the tower itself everything was smooth and easy and then you think it to be close to the end... BAM you get kicked into the fade. (played as rogue)

Yes! VTM: BL is an awesome game. The Ocean House hotel always creeps me out.

Anyway. As I'm on my fifth&sixth playthrough (doing it with two charas simultaneously) I can say that I hate the orzammar questline. Way too boring and so damned long!! Also, I don't really like dwarves, soo... yeah.

I actually liked the fade. First I didn't but after a while it grew on me. But still the Dalish quest-line is the best *-*

Regarding the Orzammar quests, i'm fine with those. True, the part after the first meet with the Legion of the Dead members is a bit long but it's all fine. I'd say the journey into Deep Roads shouldn't had been made short nor the life there easy. Also i find it to have the most satisfying ending of the three (Deep Roads, Werewolf Lair, Fade)

As for the Fade, it's my favourite, hands down. That's true even though the final fight (in the Fade) lacks something i can't really specify.

Werewolf Lair...somehow couldn't get me interested. Didn't really care who to side with, tried to go the least violent way. The location itself is nicely done though and with some interesting and rewarding sidequests.

All of the three has it ups and downs but i like them all, despite the flaws. Still, like the Fade the most and Werewolf Lair the least.

There's a method to avoid them being too long: do them in parts - do Orzammar City, then go the Brecilian Forest, clear the forest part. Go back, do some of Deep Roads, do the Sacred Ashes etc. It's not like there is a time constraint on every quest, you can do them in any order you like.

Yes, Vampires the Maquerade: Bloodlines is for sure one of the best games ever made. By the time youve got through all its deliciousness youll be ready to play DA again.

BioWare's other games, for a start, though I'm not sure about running games on Windows 7.

The original poster is looking for other games. The purpose of the thread is not Dragon Age-related.

I'm playing the witcher at the moment. Its been improved alot over the last2 years or so. Get D3DOverride though playing on an ATI card without VSync is tearing central. I'm currently on my second play through of DA:O and going through Orzammar at the moment. Its stll fun for me but then i like the dwarven city and the combat in the deep roads is some of the ebst in the game imo

Man, I really loved Bloodlines. Witcher is silly with the sex cards, but in every other way awesome, including the music. I'd say the music is even better than the music for DA.

I think they should've let you just skip Orzammar and the Mages' Tower--to just have a minimum of two or three allies rather than make you recruit all four. Then when you do play those lengthy, heavy sections, they're a pleasure rather than an obligation.

I played Bloodlines a few years back and liked it enough to beat it. Had great music and a cool atmosphere, but nothing I want to go back to.

I was very disappointed with the Witcher. I played the Enhanced Edition, and I thought the only cool thing about it was the sex cards. The dialogue felt terribly disjointed (probably due to translation), and there was too much backtracking/running around. In addition, I found the combat repetitive and stale.  I pushed on until the end of Act 3, and when my save corrupted, I just couldn't be bothered to start over again.

I'd imagine it got moved because the topic of your post is to talk about what other games to play instead of Dragon Age. seems pretty off-topic to me.

Anyway I'd recommend: Risen. The European made games are always a little bit different, and for some reason unpolished and buggy, but past that, Risen is actually a pretty good game. This is the kind of time where consoles come in handy Posted Image, they serve as a good distraction seeing as the games aren't so long and involved, plus there's some really good rpg's on the consoles: Valkyria Chronicles, Tales of Vesperia etc...

Orzammar really was a pain in the ass. But the fade, i really quite enjoyed the first time through. The puzzles kept me on my toes and alert, it was one of my favourite areas in the game, although when i had to do it again, and i knew how to solve everything... It kind of, well, sucked. Orzammar is alright, except that it goes for so much longer than everything else, and the fact that there is so much area transition and running around.

Each other zone you do a little initial thing with the option of various sidequests in that zone alone, then travel to the big finale. Orzammar requires going from the common district, to the normal floor, to the diamond, talking to someone, then going back to the commons. Frustrating :/

Although, the deep roads was fine.

I tried Risen, and yeah, the lack of polish/bugs... erg.

I also have played all RPGs on current-gen consoles that are worth playing.  I think I might pop Lufia II or FFIV back in my SNES and give that a go, considering there really isn't much out right now.... that or finish reading that Poe collection I've been working through.
