If that seeker is Cassandra, why did her hair change from white to black?

The answer is simple, and also explains her short temper with Varric: Orlais is the home, and sole source of, hair dye in the Dragon Age universe.

Sokath, his eyes opened.

Hmm, that Warden concept reminds me of Stroud for some reason.
Some interesting info from PAX, but I didn't see anything (might have missed it) on the cancelled DA2 expansion. Was there any?

any mention of the direction they are taking with gameplay?

It was mentioned last year at PAX that they were using DA2 DLC to try for a more tatical combat, where placing your characters, utilizing buffs and potions etc. and prepping before battle becoming more intregal to combat. So that seems to be the direction they're heading for the series

here's the exact quote:

1) How battles should be fought:[/b] There is a new mantra being used by the development team while working on upcoming DLC and it involves preparation, teamwork, and positioning. They discussed how battle needs to be incredibly tactical with the player preparing his team for combat, utilizing the strength of his party-mates, and correctly placing his characters in the perfect tactical positions. More on this in a sec.

It was from last year though so who knows at this moment. As far as I know, it wasn't brought up this year. But I'm glad for the lack of information, it means that they're taking their time with the series.

I just hope they won't focus too much on the DA 2-style of combat. I don't want another human fireworks machine like Mage Hawke. I didn't think combat was too slow in DA:O. It's likely those people who want to have a protagonist jumping around like a ninja on crack who thought it was too slow. Hell, in Baldur's Gate you actually almost couldn't do without the space bar to pause your game to strategically plan out your battles.

The major problems were likely the animations, that in DA:O looked kinda dull, and in DA2 they just looked ridickilous. I hope that they aim for realistic animations this time.

Would also be nice if one could manually adjust the speed of the game similar to the total war games, for those who dislike pausing completely.

I can remember long time ago some test with a black haired Cassandra concept art, unless it was the opposite.(too old DDR2 memory :D)

That Seeker IS Cassandra.

Since she's portrayed as a Warrior, and the male Grey Warden is too, I guess this means Cullen is unlikely to take the male warrior slot in DA3. Disappointing.

I'm not sure if they'd put another Grey Warden in as a companion? We had two in DA:O (if you count your pc), loads in DA:A and technically Anders in DA2 so they might consider it a bit repetitive to have yet another Grey Warden companion in DA3, not that I mind... I would prefer Cullen though, we've not had a proper fully fledge Templar yet.

That being said those are just concept designs to show you what armour looks like on different people, if they'd shown us a Seeker and a Templar then it would have almost been like confirmation that he was in the game, something they dont want to reveal yet. If he is a companion/LI in DA3 I think they'd want to surprise the fan girls lol.

I must be the only one, but I didn't feel like DA2's combat was tactical at all, usually I just ran in and killed an enemy with little to no planning.

That's because fights were more focused on action instead of strategy.

To be fair I did the same in Origins.

@Quinzel I think it was Darrah who said that some of the stuff from that cancelled expansion would be put into the next thing so it's unlikely they'll reveal stuff thats probably going to be in the new project now.

Ah, makes sense that they wouldnt reveal any info if it's being reused for the 'next big thing'.
Cheers for that! ^_^

And the amor looks very diferent on both. Loved.

It is Cassandra because she will be a companion in DA3. Darrah spilled the beans on that one in an audio interview back before DA2 came out with some German magazine as I recall.

Not a huge fan of how the armor on either of them looks really. I'm just kind of sick of the overblown, over the top armor with spikes and jaggy edges. The Warden guy looks like he should be in Warhammer 40K Space Marine or Gears of War with how oversized he is.

And beyond that, the problem with most of the Dragon Age art (for Origins and DA2) is that it always loses something in the transition from concept art to the actual in game models, and generally not for the better.

I miss the armor styles from NWN2.
But then, I generally like a lot of 3rd edition armors.

I didn't like the spikes and sharp edges in DA2 either, but I actually like the concept art shown so far. As long as they don't overdo it in the rest of the armors...

Still hope that they will abonden the cartoonish look that was present in DA2 (I still think the graphics in DA:O looked a lot better), or at the very least put some effort to not make the character look as clean as shiny plastic (with the exception of fenris and the qunari- for some reason they looked a lot better than anything else in the game).

Yes, we had a lot Warden companions, but we learned in DA2 that they are working on something kinda big.
Maybe have one in DA3 will be something essential. Just like having a Templar, a Circle Mage, a Seeker and so on...

I kinda wanna see a Tal Vashot Warden. "Vashot" already means Grey anyway, perfect match.

The concept art seems okay, though I think the dude's armor and shape is way bulky/sharp angled.

I trust Bioware,I like the armor adapting to different companions idea,it is very innovative and sounds fun,i'm looking fowards to Orlais,no reused enviroment YAY.Seeker and Gray wardens as companions, maker yes!Choices that matter great.I like everything Bioware said in this panel,I have great trust in them. PS.Since there will be no DA2 DLC or Expansion,I want Dragon age 3 in 2012 or early 2013!

I want Dragon Age 3 as soon as the next person. But those two dates are waay to early in my opinon (especially 2012, wtf? The game hasn't even been officially announced yet). Let Bioware take their time and release when they believe the game is done. Not when you or EA think it should be done by.

Also releasing it in late 2012 would be stupid anyway, everyone knows that's when all the big titles come out (especially near November time).

The man in that concept art has ugly armor. It is as if the arm, leg, and shoulder pieces come from a different suit than the rest. Then again, I prefer sleek designs closer to the woman's armor. My concern is less about the armor than weapons. DA2 has some really fugly swords. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer classic sword designs.

Gaming journalists truly are pondscum.

Throughout the panel, Bioware creative director Mike Laidlaw and Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider fielded harsh questions from enthusiastic fans with the help of Executive Producer Mark Darrah. That said, while there was an overt sense of disapproval of DAII, that accounted for only maybe 10% of the panel. The vast majority was a hooting-and-hollering celebration of all things Dragon Age. “It's so great to leave the internet and get back to real life,” said Laidlaw, speaking about getting back to interacting with fans and away from angry internet trolls.

I love how people who are critical of the game are "Internet trolls" and not part of "real life" but cosplayers who account for what - 0.01% of the game audience - are so special and game features must be modeled to suit them.

However, it wasn't all smiles and cheering. Several times during the panel, Laidlaw and Gaider had to fend off aggressive questions about the quality of Dragon Age II. “How can [the fans] be sure this wont happen again?” said one fan referring to what he felt was a failed DAII. To which Laidlaw responded simply that the fan should be paying attention to what Bioware is showing about the game, and deciding for himself if he likes it.

No wonder game journalists are so terrible if they think a question like that is "aggressive". Of course they've probably never heard a question a hasn't been vetted and approved and ran through a commercial blender at least a hundred times before being asked.

Nearly every fan who asked a negative question to the panel was quietly booed by the outweighing majority (some of whom were in incredible Dragon Age cosplay) of die-hard fans. From Bioware, the tone was of an apology. And from the fans, the tone was of forgiveness. After all, as one fan said when he took the microphone, Dragon Age II may not have been everything the fans hoped for, but it was still an incredible game.

No, it wasn't still "an incredible game". Whoever wrote this is a disgrace to journalism. Journalism is the search for the truth. Woodward and Bernstein are rolling over in their graves.

BioWare: The Next Dragon Age Won't Reuse Levels, Will Have Decisions That Matter

BioWare said at PAX East today that it's taking fan feedback on the future of its Dragon Age series — and harsh criticisms of Dragon Age II — to heart. At the developer's first panel today, Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw walked fans through some of the most frequently vocalized criticisms and suggestions, hinting at three key changes coming to the next entry: equipment for your followers, decisions that matter and no more reuse of levels.

Laidlaw couched his statements about the future of Dragon Age by saying that the topics under discussion were not official announcements.

"We're not making promises here, we're talking about ideas," he warned.

On the subject of equipment for followers in future Dragon Age games, Laidlaw illustrated how armor sets might look different on different classes of followers.

"Suppose, in your party, you have a Gray Warden. And suppose you had a Seeker," he said, showing a male Gray Warden and female Seeker. "And you had this thing: a suit of armor, a chest piece, and it had stats and stuff."
Laidlaw showed that armor set applied to the Warden, then to the Seeker, in concept art form. The armor looked slightly different on each, with "thematic" aesthetic differences applied so "they don't lose their identity in the process." Laidlaw then showed a slew of concept art, with various armor pieces from helmets to shoulder guards to bracers, then full sets, each applied to the two different classes.

He also teased the possibility that players might be able to fully customize armor pieces, applying color and types of material (cloth, leather, mail) to armor sets.

On the topic of "decisions that matter," Laidlaw said BioWare is looking to add more character agency ("My character has an active effect on his or her world, determined by my choices") and player agency ("I have control over my gameplay experience") to future Dragon Age games.

And player decisions that carry over from game to game could be given more attention, he said.
As for the oft-heard critique of Dragon Age II, that BioWare recycled dungeons and environments to an annoying degree, Laidlaw said it will stop reusing levels again and again and again.
"We're looking for variety, space and scope," Laidlaw said, showing concept art of huge open spaces (and at least one dark dungeon). He hinted that players will likely "go somewhere new, somewhere a little more… French" in the future.

They are going in the right direction, that's good news. Words alone can mean anything at the moment as we have seen nothing. But the intentions are there obviously, the priorities are there, and they are all a good sign.

I do like these repeated messages. This is important, I think.

equipment for your followers, decisions that matter, player agency.

Customization is one of the areas that I most strongly felt. Glad to see the radical change of direction on the issue. I never want to see again this story of  " I do not have the right to dress a character in my team because in real life we do not dress our friends "  Besides, the concept given sounds good, so far.

Now, only strong concern, the artstyle.
