The solution to the iconic look/item personalization is what I was expecting from DA2. It remains to be seen how it will all work at the end. I guess that the fans of personalization will allways be unhappy while the fans of iconic look will accept gladly the possibility to customize the icons :D.

Personally, I have not a real opinion on the issue: I just would like a more interesting and deep item system than DA:O and DA2. For example, I loved the item system of NWN2 since it relied heavily on crafting.

Unfortunately, in the video there is no talk about combat & non-combat gameplay style and that is my major interest on the development of DA3.

They talked about the combat in NYCC last year.

Heh, for how many games could the developers announce that the sequel is going to be more "French" and get a positive reaction?

Personally, I'm not excited about the new setting. The few Orlesian characters sprinkled around DA1 and 2 were as much of that accent as I could stomach.

Dear Mr. Self-Appointed Joseph Pulitzer,

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein remain very much alive and not in graves.  Also they would probably find your citing them in this context totally absurd and sensationalist in the worst editorial tradition.

Signed,

You know it's astounding to me that the apologist can't handle a little critsicm, when it's Laidlaw himself actually agreeing with a majority of the things that were criticised to begin with.  Recycled areas, lack of companion customization, and lack of choices mattering.

Granted he's playing the safe word of "we aren't promising anything" but if you think for one minute if they weren't concerned with sales heading into DA3 with not only how much less DA2 sold compared to Origins but with the whole debacle regarding ME3's ending and the broken assurances by Casey Hudson that turned out to not be exactly accurate. (wow those 16 endings sure provide closure! Image IPB)

It's also humorous that one thing that was suggested over and over during DA2's development regarding the whole iconic looks having some customization that was torn apart by certain people, is apparently now being looked at.

Thanks a lot. I remember that vid... but unfortunately it does not contain a lot of substantial info about combat (and non combat) gameplay. I would just like to know if I should expect a more polished version of DA2 gameplay or not. Just to set the expectation bar right.

EA Edmonton...

The Next Dragon Age Will Have Decisions That Matter

like in all other bioware games? they're good at that, really!

EA Edmonton...

He also teased the possibility that players might be able to
fully customize armor pieces, applying color and types of material
(cloth, leather, mail) to armor sets.

from dating sim to dress up game - coincidence that this would fit a possible orlais setting? good that they know best where limited resources should be spend to create the next triple aaa crpg.

Cyne wrote...

Why didn't they announce DA3? Perfect
opportunity.. ! oh well. I like that choices will apparently matter now
and that environments won't be reused. Those two things alone will make a
huge difference. Don't really care about armor choices, though.

because ea has to green light the next project? if they say no to dragon age then you won't see another one. ea's rpg division has nothing to say. in the end it's not their budget - simple as that.

Probably when I'm back at work on Wednesday I'll ask Mike for the slides he used to explain the follower customization thing-- for the sake of clarification and discussion. If you all are interested, of course.

It would be awesome to have a clearer view of the different armor customizations!

I'm confused as to what Laidlaw meant by one specialization in the video. Did he mean overall or per class? For me, I would like to at least see two specializations per class to choose from, if they are going to limit them. That way I will at least be given an alternative for not selecting something like blood magic.

You don't know the half of it. :o   I actually spent an entire afternoon just to search for a better closup to no avail.

On a side note, I really, really do like the current suggestion about the armor system and hope that it  makes it to the final game. Just in case you had any doubts...

I'll see what I can do, then.

Ideally this is the solution we'd choose-- as Mike mentioned, he just doesn't want to make promises on this front, primarily because this particular solution has a lot of systemic pre-requisites that are required in order for it to work. Hard for us to make promises on things that are largely beyond our control (it may not even be a question of resources but feasibility, after all), but Mike wanted to discuss where we envision this heading.

I understand why you guys wanted/needed a DA panel, I mean, I get it, pre-hype, but it was still kind of weird. It would not have killed anything to have DA simply skip PAX. The whole armor mix of DA1 and 2 sounds great, though.

Also.

Those concept art for locations would also be lovely! In 1920x1080 would be cool.

I know 1 or 2 of those images are concepts from DA2, but the others are new to me.

You know Semper, I respect you and everything... but I do not understand why you sill log to BSN when you are clearly beyond any form of compromise with the kind of games Bioware is going to make under EA.

Sounded like you'd choose it still so there'd have to be more than one per class, and that falls in line with the increase of player agency too.

I'm a fan of it if it means that it'll have an effect on the game in terms of story and having a greater impact on how your character actually fights.

i care for them and i wish that they'll find back to their former glory someday. i dunno how much the core people there suffer but if you take into account that most of the talent left it doesn't look that good. it saddens me.

the rest of the core should simply abandon the ship and build a new one. part with ea and watered down triple aaa games. somehow i can't believe what they do under dictate of ea is what they really want to create with their energy. with da:o they created a base lore to build upon but instead to develope it further they had to go the quick cash route.

till the day of change i'll mock about their shallow marketing and desperate buzz word dropping. their fan base falling apart slowly and the struggle they're going through. with da2 they saw how much harm they can do to an ip with just a rushed and bad directed game. right now the dragon age brand ain't worth a lot and ea has to wait how much hype they could create to justify another sequel. it's an interesting study ;)

This would be brilliant David. I particularly would love to see better quality versions of the scenery concept art too. That would make my month.

So does this translate to another 18 month cycle where you guys aren't allowed to do what you actually want or is that too much of an extreme reaction? Are the higher ups at EA going to realize you guys can't live up to the quality of past Bioware titles by consistantly being rushed to put something on the shelf for every 2nd and 4th quarter of every year? Something has to give at some point.

I really like that idea. I also like the idea of DA3 being set in Orlais. Now all we need is Cullen as a companion/love interest (hint hint) and I'll be one very happy camper!

Also, thank you for taking the time to talk to us on here.

orlais in dragon age 3 sounds about right all hints from dragon age 2 link to that game I want to see who this devine is and Im thinking the seeker may be in your team and a grey warden thats not anders this should be interesting but I would like to meet anders in someway in orlais I would also like to see qunari females which should have been in dragon age 2. I would like to have character options such as Human pesant, Dalish elves or a dwarfian blacksmith. have the opportunity to be come a grey warden.
fighting in dragon 3 will still make an impact on mages and templars
Getting invovled with the qunari would be interesting gaining support against an unknown enemy help them fight back against tervinter blood mages. after what happen when I killed the arishok he said to me **one day, wine shall return** giving a hint they will make another uprise against humanity.
I would much rather have another blight in-game but If that can't be done have a conflict with the broodmother with talking darkspawn like in dragon age awakening. I would like to see the warden and hawke or atleast mention afew times. but above all else have carver or bethany become a member of the team to reflect on hawkes achievements and past. **if they survived** I would indeed love to have a fight with one of the gods like in legacy or awakening. I would also like to see genlocks again and possible a new darkspawn and high dragon thats about to turn into an archdemon but you stop that before it happens by slaying it. quickly ending it before another blight.
characters I wish to return:
Anders, Varric, Leliana, Isabella, Fenris, Morrigan, Altair, Zevran **if he survived**, Oghren **one my favorite characters would have him as team mate**, Sten, Wynne, Shale **one him as a playable character so much**, Flemeth, Bodahn Feddic & Sandals **dragon age wouldnt be dragon age with out those merchants**, Knight-Commander Gregoir, Velanna **on the run from templars and the dalish**, Nathaniel Howe, Justie **in the fade** also another of my favorites., Cassandra Pentaghast, Captain-guard Aveline Vallen **vacation**. bring back female dwarves. I like the dialogue wheel like mass effect just need more options of characters and a bigger map then the free marches. more area to explore that dont turn out to be the same place for other quests in dragon age 2 that was terrible. many thanks**

hope this helps

one last thing bioware DONT MAKE MULTIPLAYER EVER!!! not for dragon age  you will just have problems just like in Mass effect 3. if the leading team spent more time on the campaign then their wouldn't be any plot wholes because the leading team spent to much time and money on multiplayer which bad the ending of the game look bad. so if you dont want dragon age 3 to look bad like mass effect then dont add multiplayer its not the type of RPG game. I think alot of fans would prefer it that way.
