One of the things I really missed in dragon age 2 was the ability to zoom out far enough. This made it harder to see what was going on and make good tactical decisions especially when those damn assassins magically teleported behind your mages. This also made the game feel less like a spiritual successor to the Baldur’s gate series (at least for me).

For dragon age 3 I really hope Bioware is bringing back the isometric view.  What does the rest of you guys think?

I think the isometric camera is not what you are looking for. Isomettric view is all about the camera angle not the distance.
You can set the camera to isometric view in DA2 if you want.

Free, not character sticked, overhead camera - yeah. I would like to see it back.

Semantics.  Isometric camera view in this instance meaning top-down break away ceiling/roof detached camera -- that you cannot do in DA2.  Isometric of course meaning "isometric-like" since true isometric projection is no longer relevant.  But I'm hardly an expert, I think most people understand what someone means when they say they want an "isometric camera".

And I really...really...really hope the include the option in DA3.  May even be a dealbreaker for me.

There should definitely be an isometric camera. I don't know how many times i was trying to cast a spell or organise my characters in DA2 and thinking to myself, damn I could really use a isometric camera right now.

I think ISO goes too far back in DAO, and I don't like how the farthest zoom-out automatically detaches. I'd prefer a button to switch between detached or attached at any camera height. Though I'd probably never need to use it if DA3 preserves the "shift to unstick AOE targeting reticule" feature.

Dragon Age III should do what Mass Effect does and stick the camera right behind the main character. That way you can see your l33t armor all the time!

Isometric... you keep using that word.

I don't think it means what you think it means.

I thought it meant a top-down view, but I might be wrong I'm not a native english speaker after all. What I really meant is what Korusus is saying  a top-down break away ceiling/roof detached camera.

Not going to happen. They already decided to make a DA2 v.2.0.

There has never been one for the console versions, so it shouldn't be in the PC versions either.

Uh uh, a very valid reason I must say.

translation - "I can't have it, so you shouldn't either"

I actually dont get why they cant let both PC and console users zoom out Baldurs gate view...
But yeah, even on PC it was often hard to play a mage or archer with DA2 due to the *censored* camera.

EDIT: And what about those "detailed" roofs? They didnt seem any special to me compared to DA:O, and the city planning of kirkwall didnt differ too much from Amaranthine in my opinion. Frankly I dont see why they changed the camera in the first place.

Isometric camera isn't an incorrect way of describing the tactical camera. I don't think Dragon Age's camera was quite isometric but games such as Diablo have isometric camera angles.

But seriously wrestling the camera in DA2 was not fun at all.
