9/11 happened ten years ago, It's over with. The Japenese had a horrible Earthquake that killed far more than 9/11 but do they go crying whenever earthquake/tsunami imagery is used in media?

Yes, I get that 9/11 was a terrible event but can you Americans please stop going mad over any showing of towers being destroyed in media? I get tired of this same sort of thing cropping up again and again whenever something depicts an aeroplane crashing or towers collapsing. It's just getting boring now.

Here in the UK we had horrible bombing of the underground system in London, which you probably never even heard of, but you don't see people here going up in arms whenever any media depicts a train exploding.

No one's forcing you to look, or care. Get over yourself.

I provided a link to the specific page in the original post (http://store.origin....ree-games-en_GB ) and can assure you I didn't edit it.

Since I assumed it isn't intentional, I did send an email to EA to let them know so they could remove it if they wished (to avoid any kind of controversy in the future), their reply:
"
Thank you for writing to Electronic Arts.

We apologize that you found some content regarding the game offensive. Your issue has been escalated to higher level and would be in concern of developer’s team. I would also suggest you to post these issues on official game forums because official game forums are mostly made by game developers so that can work as your direct contact to them. "
Though I never suggested I found it offensive, you can see from their reply this isn't something I have simply fabricated.

No.. the link doesn't lead anywhere but the main origin site.  Let me see.  You created the thread 30 minutes ago, then contacted EA and got them to remove the banner before anyone else could see it.  That letter is hardly compelling proof.  It's not that hard to write that up or copy and paste it from somewhere else.  I also downloaded the demo on Origin and that was not the banner used.

Go back to your bridge.

What runnish. My entire country was bombed during World War 2, many of my grandparents siblings died, and it had a much greater impact than 9/11, but you don't see me crying over any tiny reference to war.

There have been far, FAR greater disasters much more recently than 9/11. Look at that earthquake in Japan, it killed more than five times the ammount 9/11 did.

So stop crying over it, as though no other couintry has had a disaster, becuase we all have- we just don't go on about them every ten seconds!

I'm not the one having a go at Bioware becuase they might have depicted an event similar to 9/11 in their advertising.

You need to get over yourselves.

It's ok, we get it, your country is still young :P - you havn't got many cultural memories yet so you're very protective of the few you do have xD

-Aw... isnt that condescending and inane bs cute. However you are sadly mistaken. My nation has the oldest national flag in the world still in use.

Im danish. Furthermore, Im blue blood. Coat of arms and all, with  pedigree going back 100% churchbook checkable on both sides for 451 years.

But thanks for starting a pissing contest.

There was another thread on this forum a few weeks ago "Pictures that remind you of the ending"

among the images were images from the holocaust, the Hindenberg disatser, the eathquake from Japan that killed thousands, hurricane Katrina another American disaster (and a much worse one, I believe), and one of 9/11.

Nearly every comment said that the 9/11 one went to far, ignoring the pictures depicting the more recent (and far more devastating) distaers that happened to other countries. That's why I get so annoyed over this attitude.

Firstly, I contacted them several days ago, and that reply is from several days ago. Secondly, it has not been removed, nor do I expect it to be.

I must point out I am currently accessing the website from the United Kingdom, for this regional version of Origin the link works just fine.

Canada wait with great expectation US war declaration.

We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in Quebec, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our country, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. - Thanks Churchil / commonwealth

And burn Washington a second time as retribution.

Assuming it was true, so a picture of a destroyed building is used on a piece of promotional art, and?

There are games based on WWII and other horrible events about humanity's history. This isn't a big issue in the slightest. It's not even a issue.

If this is real, which i doubt, I don't care. Damaged buildings are buildings. There's nothing sacred about concrete.

It had far less impact than the world wars did.

And impacts aside, the Earthquake in Japan was a far worse disaster, in every way possible. I felt horrible when I heard about both of these disasters, they were both devastating events, but the Earthquake in Japan killed far more and caused much more devestation.

That's why I don't like it when people try to make out that "their" disaster is worthy of all references to it being banned while the other is ok to show refrences to at any time.

If these people were also going "That scene here is also offensive as it depicts the Eartnquake in Japan" or "The Geth/Quarian conflict includes genocide, like the holocaust, so I don't like it" then I would be fine with this- It just irritates me that the only problem these people have is the one that links to a particuar (American) disaster, and only that one.

I don't think Bioware were trying to reference 9/11 in any way, and I think that if people saw that they were probably looking too hard. It sounds like it was photoshopped on from what others are saying anyway.

Oh yes, everything is related to 9/11.
Smoke, fire, building(s), people (around, near, close, not close, in a distance) - everything should trigger 9/11.
And it is fake.

People die in disasters. Doesn't make your disasters any more important than any others.

Image is clearly falsified, as is "EA's reply."

"Escalated to higher level"?

"Would be in concern of developer's team"?

At least have someone with competent English skills edit your fake before making it public.

For those who were saying I photoshopped it in, here is the source image hosted on EA's website: http://vassets.ea.co..._963x315_2.jpg
Notice it is ea.com

I didn't expect people to start arguing over whether it is right or wrong to be honest, myself I'm not offended by it in any way, it simply stood out to me as something they would not have intended (as I know there are many out there who may be offended by such a thing, rightly or wrongly).

Artists often draw inspiration from historic imagery for the emotional impact whether it be a well known scene of New York, London, Athens, Rome, or wherever. I really do not see any malice in it.
