I REALLY don't see this as the problem. In fact, it isn't. So they photoshoopped the picture of some Stock Image. It's a little lazy but how is this different from taking the face of a model and retailoring it for the game?

There are bigger wars to fight.

I'm okay with the face its self. Just the lazy shop that throws me off.

It's a lot different from taking the face of a model and putting it in the game.

I liked the photo. They only need to fix the hand, clothing and background. That's it. Everything else is fine.

So the entire photo?

If they had bothered to model her hand properly I'd have thought that a reasonable explanation. Since they just blacked-out two fingers on a human hand, though, it's hard to call it anything but a rush job.

Bioware, you crazy.

Like literally, you are crazy. You modeled a blue chick naked in creepy detail. But you can't even model a quarian's face without using a lazy shop.

Heh heh heh...

...

I'm still pissed about Tali's face, however.

Also, Liara's model doesn't have nipples, so... not that great detail :P

As much as I love Tali, if I didn't know where the image had come from I'd probably have been fine with it.  The resulting scrutiny of it after it was discovered on Getty has ruined it somewhat.

The photo was fine, but the problem is they didn't model it into the game. I'll tell you who they did model though, Jessica Chobot. Jessica Chobot(ign)> Tali(fans). That is how their thought process went.

This

They had time to model in some sort of minor internet celebrity into a character who has never been heard of before and did very little in game, yet after litterally years of people wanting to know what Quarians looked like and Tali specifically, they used a stock photo.

Then again, that job on the internet gamer check model was kinda bad, so Tali fans my have won this battle with the stock photo. Still comes off as lazy, considering this wasn't some out of the blue thing that Bioware didn't have any plans for until they were suddenly surprise by Tali's popularity at the end:)

I'll chip in. I am NOT "fine" (been seeing that word a lot regarding her photoshop) with it. It was hands down lazy and a very bad decision. After that explanation as to why they decided this was what they wanted to handle her face... I dont even know what to say. "I don't like it" is all I can say. The picture doesn't make sense. everything about it is a contradiction, and they're trying to make us accept it. I can't believe this.

They definiately were lazy about it. They didnt' bother to render her face in a way that was consistent with all other portraits in the game and they did a 30 second photoshop of it. The fan art actually does a better job.

Considering the lack of what's on Liara, I imagine they just took her frame, slapped on the asari skin pattern, and called it a day. If they had really done a detailed job, they would have added nipples and genitalia. They didn't, so I can't imagine it's anything else.

Are you serious? A 30 minute photoshop from one person is not very different from taking a model's face, scanning it into the game, altering details, making sure it'll render properly that takes dozens of hours?

Tell that to Team Bondi, who made the fantastic L.A. Noire, creating their characters faces by scanning in and manipulating and rendering dozens of faces from the voice actors and also models  for every in-game character and photo.

Scanning and Rendering a person's face in-game takes a hell of a lot longer than Photoshopping a stock image.

YAWN. no one cares. the photo was fine & suited her character.

so what if it was a "stock image" - they still have to find it.

now, if you don't like it, go do something else with your life.

it makes sense actaully.

If they didn't decide to show her until late in the process, they probably didn't have time to find a model to scan into and then do all the model making stuff.

Honestly the only part of the picture that bothers me is the hand, that's just unprofessional to not make sure the preportions are right.

This.  I get using a still image or photo, but would it have been so hard to have actually created an original piece?  At the very least, if you are going to use stock, use a stock photo that hasn't already been well circulated.

So, they render Chobot in full 3D model but not even bother to rendered Tali for only her face?

I not a fan of her but is this what character from me1-3 deserve?

No offense, but this is a game discussion forum, and really serves no serious purpose in the grand scheme of things. Repeatedly calling people out with the 'life' argument because it doesn't fit your idea of "important" discussion is very hypocritical.

People have presented logical arguments as to why they feel it is a cop-out of a development decision, and that BioWare's stated reasons for doing so contradict their examples immediately thereafter.

I really liked the image and I won't let all the negativity ruin it for me.:P I was wondering how Tali would turn out to look like as she's my favourite character and the photo was better than I expected, so I'm happy, thought I wish they would have modelled her also so we could see her "live" also.

I was simply dumbfounded they made her look so human. It could have been a shopped stock photo if her anatomy made sense to carry the seeds of the desert grass. @_@ Shouldn't she have had scales, feathers or fur, or something? Skin and the hair on her scalp seem like they would be insufficient for this task.

I used to think they were just trolling with the picture they gave us, I mean she's out of her suit for crying out loud how did she take this picture?! After PAX today, it's clear they don't care about what she looks like.

Cheaper and less time to use Photobucket on a stock photo. The rEApers demanded it.

The photo itself doesn't bother me: the sheer lack of effort on Bioware's part does.
