Tali's Face - The Explanation (And the HORRENDOUS Contradiction)

I have to say that the photoshop was very slack and all, but they did pick a very good picture to alter. Javik makes a statement about how the quarians were viewed as beautiful. I forget where, but there is at least one mention about how quarians resemble humans rather closely. I am not really bothered that it was photoshopped. I am disappointed that when Shep looks at the picture Tali gave him there is a glare preventing you from clearly seeing her. I am disappointed that they didn't make the photoshop a match compared to their character models. I also am VERY disappointed that they didn't take the time to correctly model her face, but took the time to modify and add a ton of miscellaneous characters (Allers). Tali's face should resemble a human's face. Why couldn't they start with a human face template and modify it (like they did in photoshop)? It probably wouldn't take your lead graphics specialist to modify a face. It probably wouldn't take the person working on her face more than 1 and a half working days to model it very accurately to the correct photoshop. There are so many Talimancers out there that doing the Tali face reveal halfway just doesn't make any sense. I really hope that they add a 3D face model for Tali in the future. Maybe add in a romance DLC option? (hopeful)

P.S. Also, as a Texture man, I have to say this: the resolution you used on it was laughable. Not even 512 px? Come on...

Even worst, it's a stock image.
If they really meant what they said about high photographic fidelity, source material and artistic vision, why didn't they cast a model, get a photographer to shoot an original image from scratch based on their concept art, then retouch/mod that photo.
Google image search 'Tali face' and you'll get tons of more creative and better digitally crafted faces of Tali.

Everything that should be speculation was poorly explained and everything that needed explanation was left to speculation.

Didn't someone create a mod that allows you to insert whatever image you like? I mean, it's not a great fix, but better than what we got…

You've seen Javik, right? I'd imagine he'd find a cockroach more attractive than the average human.

They're ‘most similar’ because of overall facial structure, and because they have hair. Once again, here's the concept art:

Going with a pretty human face is just disappointing fanservice. Or, well, casualservice maybe. Not modeling it is inexcusable.

The entire first post went through my head as well while I was reading the statements coming out of the live event. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who did a double-take when they pointed to good examples of models based on real faces as being a reason why they didn't make a face model for Tali.Jedifan421 wrote...

This. They think we're stupid but we aren't. We can understand when you're contradicting yourself, BioWare. Christ, that panel was just...full of some of the most rehearsed PR bull I've ever seen. And no one called them out on it.

YAWN. no one cares. the photo was fine & suited her character.
so what if it was a "stock image" - they still have to find it.
now, if you don't like it, go do something else with your life.
Don't speak for everyone. People do care. Clearly Bioware doesn't.
Even their photoshop was rushed, because it's awful.
I've seen novices do a better and more convincing job at making a human look Quarian.

going with a mostly human face makes sense to me, and It personally feels refreshing that there is an alien race that bares many similarities with our own. Besides, have you seen some of the concept art for the Protheans and the Drell? it was incredibly varied, as show above. I dont think the idea is lazy. I just think that the exectution is.
for example they could have put a few more techy parts on here, cut her hair a bit maybe.
the way I see it, at this point the Quarians have a lot of robotics on em now, so I wish that was more evident. I also wish they put more effort into her hand.
aside from all that I think the picture is fine. Do I wish they modeled her in game? Hell yes. Am I satisfied? not really.
but can I deal? yeah pretty much.

This has to be the weakest complaint of the game I have seen, yet. VERY nitpicky. I am surprised Bioware would even answer a question about it.
Yes, A company that has vehemetly used "Artistic Integrity" to uphold their poor rush-job of an ending, that has caused much controversy, using a very amateurish photoshopped stock photo from google is nitpicky and a weak complaint.
Oh don't even bring up the Stargazer photo.
In writing it's called plagiarism, in Movies it's called ripping-off, in Games it's called, Artistic integrity

1. Why so crossed eyes. She looks like a asian on crack.( no offense I'm asian) * image removed *
2.Do you really think her eyes are glowing the whole time. Maybe its some thing in darkness like cats. I mean if I'm shephard and I'm on top of her, I'm gonne be freaked out by her. I wouldn't RISE to the occasion. LOL!
3. I wish they had a more emphasis on skin color. Pretty much everyone thought she was at least a pale purple.
4. The Hair! I always imagined it shorter. I mean putting in that in your suit after every bootycall( And I own the phone company) must be a real Bosh'Tet * image removed *
5. Nail polish wtf. Do Quarians even have nail polish?
6.The fingers look like my girllfriends ********.(He did not)
7. Oh, he did.
8. We have enough characters with black hair. Why not a brownie.
9. That shawl and the way she posed isn't possible and not like her respectively.
What I liked
1. Those cybernetics wear pretty cool.
2. She looks pretty sexy.
3. It kinda looks like Rannoch.
So yeah. Those were my opinions. And for you liaramancers... (p.s. By the way, I know this was at pax, is their any way that their would be a video with it and someone point out where. If someone does, that would mean alot!)
