One thing that struck me, as I noticed this rumour from PAX twitters about voicing the Warden, was:

- That I would hate to see the Warden appear in a role, npc, that is out of my control!

I think that is because the Warden is personal. My Warden should not strut around and utter foolishnesses as an NPC under Bioware direction.

I know, "the Warden was always under Bioware direction, bla, bla". - No, I role played the Warden by my definition of role play, so the Warden is mine. I'm not even sure that distinction is important. Wouldn't those DA2 fans, who role played Hawke by their definition of role play, also feel that the character is theirs?

Anyway, I feel kinda disturbed by this, so I made a thread about it to see other's reactions.

I'd prefer it, actually, I love character continuity between games. I hope it would be done in a way that doesn't destroy the character though. They should act in a way that aligns with the choices I made in previous games.

To be honest, if I am not playing as Hawke then I would actually love to run into her in the next game! As for the Warden, mine is deceased so I admit I might be quite disturbed about seeing her walking about.

It be good to catch up with my Warden, his God child son and apostate wife/girlfriend/significant other? she's not too fond on labels that Morrigan.Image IPB

I would like to know what Hawke is doing since their wont be an expansion. Did he take Isabela up on that offer of first mate

We may not be able to decide when they show up but I feel we should be able to still control their actions.

i dont care about hawke but i would hate the warden to play any significant part in the story without my influence it would be irritating.  although it would be awsome if they gave u  a section were you played as the warden maybe a dlc i would like that alot

although i wouldnt mind if they were featured in a way that made player contribution irelevant
u could for example see them through the mirror, seeing as thats were u left them (assuming you did) or standing beside a LI or some such while the LI does the talking

One thing that is somewhat comforting, I guess, if they bother involving players in choosing voice, it might mean the Warden will be somewhat playable.

I am not sure. It seems weird.  A oart of me would think it is cool to see how the computer put all of you decisions to come up with your personality, but then I am thinking of the fallout. Here is what could happen. (Cue CLue Music)
1) Import face glitch- Your warden or Hawke does not appear like the Warden or Hawke you played in the games, or you stuck with the "standard" Hawke or Warden. Another Bioware glitch, forums complain.
2) He or She is in her helmet through the whole scene. Bioware is cutting corners.  It comes off looking cheap, forum's complain.
3) Hawke or Warden does not mention their LI or get the LI wrong. Another Bioware glith. Forums complain.
4)Hawke or WArden does something that you as their creator would have never done, or gets killed in the most horrendous way in any Bioware game to date. Conspiracy theorist state  that Bioware is basically put that scene in the game to state they do not care about the fans, and the forums complain.

I would rather how people that know them be in the game and can you fill you in at the various times in the game.
People will still complain, but it will not be so visceral.

Heavy risk but the prize...... but yeah I do see how it could all end as another PR nightmare

1) I think the only way would be 2 recreate your warden/Hawke with the DA 3 toolset. Which would annoy some people and all but ruin the supprise of them being in the gme. would take more resources as well especially for the other races.

3) I often said the import system needs to be scrapped, give me a checklist of all the major/Minor descions and I could recreate my Thedas the way I made or Experiment  with it without going through the previous titles.

I wouldn't mind meeting my warden or Hawke in DA3 if I  meet them in the storyline but I wouldn't want to talk to them, or have them talk to me. It's impossible for BW to take in account all the different choices character-wise every player makes to import them. They would always be off the way I created them.

An alternative for interaction could be like said above by another poster that the LI does the talking.

A perfect way to have a cameo for warden and Hawke would be the thread about the masquerade ball.
They could be one of the guests there.

No, I'm in favor of a "clean break" No amount of continuity will satisfy everyone. Someone's Warden will invariably get screwed up or someone's Hawke will end up being ooc, and people will get p*ssed about it. If Bioware tries too hard to link all the games together, with all the possible variations, the games will suffer for it.

I say keep DA3 its own game, set in Thedas. No Warden. No Hawke

There is a way it could be done. Have the player 'guest play' the Warden/Hawke. There could be a use for that. A very difficult mission which the protagonist can't tackle. Remember the Warden/Hawke is at a very high level.
Only in the transition phases will we experience Warden/Hawke as a strict npc.

Exactly my thought.
Whoever this warden will be, I refuse to acknowledge she/he was my former character. This warden could be any warden like Bethany or Alistair or  anyone else but she or he is not mine. And Hawke? I don't give a damn about him/her. He/she never become my character in the first place. Whether she/he makes a cameo or not makes no difference to me. I will kill him/her if he/she tries to get in my way. He/she should have remained gone like he/she did in DA2.

Well, that'd be bad for me because the Warden in my DA2 games is a faceless, save-generated abomination (I played Origins on PS3 and II on a PC). At any rate, I don't particularly want or need to see either one of them again. A Hawke cameo would be a lot more doable, though.

I always liked the idea of recreating the Warden in a future DA toolset for cameo purposes, as EnforcerGREG suggests.

Ideally, to maintain the surprise, it would be done within the game itself. After all, we didn't even get to customize our Hawke until after the exaggerated opening scene... so why not customize our Warden only immediately before we need him (or her)?

NPC: "Yes, it was definitely the Hero of Ferelden I met, alright. I remember it clear as day..."

*pop up character creation screen for Warden*

*cue side quest with player playing as the Warden*

It could work. Will it actually happen, though? Sad to say, I doubt it. It would probably take too much effort to make it worthwhile.

[edit]Oh, and for the people who like to cry about "my Warden is dead," simply replace with the Orlesian Warden. You could even have the same voice actor... just have 'em say all the lines in an outrageously bad French accent. Genius![/edit]

I'd love to see my two previous protagonists in DA3 at some point, but not a big scene that requires dialog from their part.

I agree that the Warden shouldn't reappear as a cameo outside of our control. The best we can hope for is a brief interlude where we shift from playing the DA3 protagonist to the Warden, if he appears again. That way, we can retain control.

This might not work too well if we see the Warden when we're playing as our DA3 protagonist and they're holding a conversation. But maybe if it was a constant shifting until the scene ended, it might work. Though that'd probably feel incredibly weird.

I don't mind picking a voice for my Warden. I've often said that the voice seclection part of CC was in fact us giving our Wardens a canon voice. People disagreed with that, but I still maintain that it's true.

But I don't want my Warden acting without my input.

Because he had a voice, my Hawke had a pretty set personality, so I would enjoy seeing a cameo of him, and I trust BW would represent him well.

But the Warden doesn't really have a personality, so if he makes a cameo, he will basically be a recreated character. I don't mind too much as I wasn't overly attached to him, and I think it might be kind of fun.

I think its a great idea. I feel so invested in both characters, I think it would be great to have the new character have an interaction with them. Besides, I think it would be a far more interesting to actually see them instead of constantly hearing about them like with the Warden in DA2.

I hate it...

I don't want MY character to be in anybody elses hands but mine. The last thing I want is a conversation with a character I made just to have him say something HE wouldn't.

It's like talking to my Hawke who suddenly took sides with the Seekers... MY Hawke wouldn't do that.

However they do it, it'll be hit and miss, but I think it would worse if they never include them again. I think people expect to see Hawke and the Warden again and if it turns into "yeah this is what happens and this is conclusion of their story" in a conversation with some NPC, the devs will get a lot more hate. However the appearance is, it'll be risky.

Personally, I'd love if we got to play both as Hawke and the Warden, both on separate missions, but at times meeting allies/companions of the other and having to deal with the consequences the other caused.

Ditto.  Would like a new protagonist and all new cast, really.

I dread that bit about possibly bringing back old characters into DA3.  I wouldn't mind if one of them was Varric, but if the old "favorites" turn out to be Oghren or old LIs I'm going to be pissed.
