Hi

I've gone through the DLC faqs and it mostly works for me. I can manually create the service and such. However the service always stops after I exit the game, and doesn't start again when I play afterwards so I have to keep starting it manually. I can't run the service or the game as an administrator because steam complains about that.

Just wondering how other Steam users have handled this. I like to update my Bioware Social status with my stuff so I'd like to stay logged in if possible. It's just annoying having the DLC unauthorized when I forget to start the service if it's not running. I'm also wondering why the Steam installer doesn't create this service?

If your Dragon Age Updater is not starting when your system starts, you may need to change the service settings to enable it. To enable the Dragon Age Updater:

•Run services.msc from the Run menu option in Windows. Pressing the Windows key + R will bring up your Run menu. Simply type "services.msc" into the window and click OK.

◦NOTE: Services.msc controls essential components of Windows. Errors in configuration can prevent the system from operating correctly. Any changes you make in services.msc are made at your own risk.

•Find the Dragon Age: Origins Updater service in the list.

•Double-click on the service to bring up the properties.

•Press the Start button if the service is not currently running.

•Change Startup type to Automatic.

•Close the Properties and Services interface.

I've set it to automatically start but eventually stops. I think when you quit the game it stops the service.

ok, i've soved. i'm a windows 7 64bit user. i've install manually DAUpdater services because W7 don't did it.

Naviguate to c:\\\\Windows\\\\Microsoft.NET\\\\Framework\\\\v2.0.50727\\ \\

Perform these commands to do so (your prompt should be in Windows\\\\System32 by default) :

cd..

cd Microsoft.NET

cd Framework

cd v2.0.50727

installutil "C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe"

net start DAUpdaterSvc

Make sure to use the path where your game is actually installed (something like c:\\\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\Dragon Age\\\\ for Steam for exemple)

i created .bat files and shortcuts to do this without having to navigate around in the windows folders or use the command prompt. for those lazy people. nice to have if you ever need to do this again.

basicly you only need to edit the "install_DAUpdSvc_Win7_64Bit.bat" to point to your own folder path. then run the files 01, 02, wait until window closes, run 03, wait again. done.

download it here

and ye, why isn't this stickied?!

Thanks... problem happened for me after an uninstall of the retail vanilla copy and install of the Steam Ulitmate edition. Running Windows 7 (32-bit). This solved that part of it. However, now I don't see my Awakenings content... back to the forum search! :)

drake gets all credit, here are just some further notes I typed up to save myself headaches the next time I have to install this again. this is really stupid, EA could easily have fixed this in their installer.

problem: could not play dlc or other campagins in DAO ultimate.
layout: windows 7 64, purchased via amazon direct download, downloaded and installed through EA's Origin downloader.
solution:
found location of DAUpdater.svc in c:\\program files(x86)\\origin games\\dragon age™ orgins: ultimateedition\\bin_ship\\daupdater.svc
..
typed installutil "c:\\\\program files(x86)\\\\origin games\\\\dragon age™ orgins: ultimate edition\\\\bin_ship\\\\daupdater.svc"
-lots of text, don't worry if it says anything about rollback, etc.
..
typed net start daupdater.svc
-at this point, the command prompt "hanged". I waited for a while and closed the command prompt.use windows key+r to bring up run menu.
..
typed services.msc and found daupdater service running, right clicked, selected properties. changed starting from manual to automatic.closed everything and ran DAO:UE.
..
I was already logged out, so logged in. (I had already made an account at bioware, registered DAOUE, activated both the install and DLC keys.)the game "froze" for about 30 seconds - I assume DAUpdater was fixing stuff. then everything was working and enabled!now all I have to do is to try to play it.
..
all stuff in bright blue is EXACTLY what I typed for my default installation through EA origins downloader.

Wish I saw this earlier. The "brave one's" tips likely would have worked. I just kept running the DAUServiceSetup in the _Installer folder until I saw the Content Updater pop up in my 64-bit Windows 7 services.msc where I immediately switched it to automatic instead of manual and started instead of stopped. Now all my unauthorized DLC from Ultimate is playable. It did exit out to my desktop from the start up cinema on first (and only) run, but like the "brave one" said I think that should only be temporary. Either way its better than no DLC, expect Awakenings.

I'm getting an error "Access to path C:\\WIndows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.50727\\InstallUtil.InstallLog is denied."

EDIT: nm good old "run as Adminstrator" on the cmd executable worked

EDIT 2: ARGH now I can't load my saves because it says the owner of the premium content or some such has to log in (even though I am logged in)

EDIT 3: and on top of that now apparently I have to manually run the DAUpdater service everytime I play! *investigates*

See the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top of this forum for solutions. If you need more assistance than is in that thread, or just need help making sense of the directions, please see the read first thread also pinned to the top of this forum and posting the requested information in your own thread. You also can use the 1.05 beta patch which fixes all DLC authorization issues, but can result in long load times after playing for 1-2 hours or more. Restarting the game resets the load times. It cannot be applied to a Steam install because of the way that Steam distributes patches, but your CD key from Steam entitles you to the EA digital version of the game as well which can use the patch. Your saved games can be retained and will work fine across all PC versions (it's an option during uninstall). More information, including directions for getting the patch and obtaining the EA digital download version, is in the 1.05 beta patch thread also pinned to the top of this forum.
