I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we got something like this in regards to more dialogue with the star kid. They did say something along the lines of having dialogue written, but deciding to leave it ambiguous right? I have a bad feeling any "extra" dialogue is basically just going to be what they decided to remove, the starkid telling us more about the reapers. Hopefully that isn't the case.

NO! IT CAN'T BE LIKE THAT! WE HAVE TO RAGE--FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

You're not going to convince the lunatic fringe that this DLC could work with the current ending we have. I never thought we needed a complete rewrite for them to salvage the ending.

Uh... I'm part of this so called "lunatic fringe" who do not like the DLC. Just because you are happy with what you have been offered doesn't mean that every single person has to agree with you. I think many people who dislike the expanded ending dlc are being quite reasonable about it. There are many valid arguements on our side so I would advise you to do some research into our views before calling us lunatics.

DON'T YOU SEE!?!?!?!?  BIOWARE IS AWESOME!!!  THEY LOVE US AND CAN"T FAIL!!! THEY HAVE LISTENED TO US!!! UNPRECEDENTED!!!!!  STOP BEING SO DEMANDING!!!  #ENTITLED.

Mocking aside, you can be just as much of a lunatic in blindl;y believing that BW will do something great and fix all the problems as you can in refusing to consider the possibility that they won't.  The fact of the matter is that BW hasn't communicated with us and despite all their listening hasn't given us what most of us want or much detail on what we're getting instead.

Might DLC fix the ending?  Maybe, but should you bet on it?  And that's the issue here: those of us who want bioware to give us a good ending (or even a decent ending), can't afford to sit around trusting BW at this point.  Most of the doubters think that what BW has done so far is just a PR move.  And if we're right there's no sense waiting for BW to let us down again before we put the pressure back on.

Having just read this post for the first time: I could easily live with this, and I am definitely among the skeptics of the Extended Cut announcement so far.

Going out like a boss is how I always figured Shepard's story was going to end, anyway. The operative phrase there being "like a boss," not "uh... okay suspicious space child, I will listen to you uncritically and then kill myself on your say-so."

Something like this would be perfect! More dialogue that better reflects the Shepard players have crafted. Sadly, "cinematics" are what we're supposed to get. Doubt we'll see anything like this :/

Thats some good stuff! I guess we will se what the CGI does to the current ending.

The basics of the the ending is still there, everything that is wrong. The neglecting of Harbringer,
the entire rushed plot with the citadel, the godamn, cheap starchild, and the mass relay destruction.
Oh, and the normandy part. I know.. I will wait, let´s not jump ship. But still. Who on earth thought that this was a good idea for an ending?? Its just sad. And unfortunatlety, one of the things the ME series will be rememberd for. THAT ending. Sorry. But a bad idea, is still a bad idea.

I am a huge skeptic of the extended dlc myself since starkid is still in it, but if done as you stated I will be ok with it. I will still hate starkid to the end of time but that's just me.

Being a giant skeptic of the extended dlc (namely because all I've heard is "closure"[-I'll believe that when I see it], "clarification"[-insinuating that the problems with the end can just be explained away and that the ending was satisfactory] and "artistic integrity"[-for the 400th time like art has never changed or been subject to criticism]), I believe the op's writing is gold and could restore the same greatness from the rest of the game into the ending conversation. However, without the indoctrination theory worked in after that, It would still leave that giant gaping plot hole the catalyst created in the first game -about "why didn't the catalyst activate the citadel relay?"- and therefore still be inadequate.

I'm surprised that Bioware hasn't figured out that they've passed the point of no return and won't be able to placate the dissatisfied fanbase with a fallout 3 slideshow addition to the ending. They can only be redeemed by altering the last scenes with more dialogue and the indoc theory+whatever they deem to fill in the rest of the ending with. It's just as simple as that.

The thing that I have the hardest time wrapping my head around, is I have read a thousand additions, amendments, rewrites, slight dialogue changes or inclusions etc regarding the endings.

..and all of them would have made the ending we got that much more bearable and with some of them just a thousand times more awesome. How are professional paid writers missing such basic things from the end of their game which would have made the ending something worth swallowing?

I never thought in a million years I'd ever say this, but the ****** Master 5000 is on the right track. The big question is will they be willing to go the extra mile for this?

This will be...interesting to say the least.

I hate people who say "kid' in a conversation. Sounds so insulting. Only kids call other people "kids". Other than that this was pretty solid.

Really good OP. But this isn't clarification, this is a rewrite, albeit a small one. IF we are to take them on their word they won't do any changing.
Maybe you should apply for a job at Bioware? Nah just kidding, with their business model of churning out unfinished products (as of DA2,TOR,ME3) as soon as possible I can't see how working for them could be a good career choice at the moment.

Much more satisfying outcome, at least while we wait for the Extended Cut

It seems every time a fan writes a revised ending of some degree, it's just better in all possible ways.
Why are we paying them to write the ending again?

We do not engage in the games of chance collectively referred to by organics as "gambling," but if we were to metaphorically do so, we would suggest the possibility that not all of the Creators were involved in this process.

We also commend the soundness of the "OP's" reasoning.

That was actually kind of deliberate.  I figured that RenShep had "had enough of this shi-" by that point, but Shep's never been particularly profane, or creative in his/her insults (see: "you big, stupid, jellyfish"), so I locked onto disrespectfully referring to a billion year old supercomputer as "kid".

Heck, that would work with this experiment.  Make your choices, get your epilogue.

I would totally work with a flash animator and programmer to set up an interactive slide show ending.  We could call it the "Fan Cut" or something.  Heck, tie in those epilogues Sirius linked.

Well, I think it's a matter of hindsight and investment.  Bioware's writers are REALLY good (see Tuchanka and Rannoch for proof), but certain things are very much more apparent in hindsight, especially when viewed in total, as opposed to in pieces.  The fanbase gets the benefits of this, plus retrospective of emotions felt (I mean, I slammed the choices out in about 1.5hours each, but there was about a month of "what went wrong, and why?" that led to it), and the "benefit" of the BSN hivemind churning out ideas and up/down-voting the things that went wrong.  I totally think they could blow every fan-made epilogue out of the water if they choose to.  The critical part of that sentence was the last clause: "if they choose to".  I hope they do.

Ah, well, you can't win them all.  :(

And if they hired people on the basis of half-witted internet fanfic, I think they'd have a few more problems than just one disappointing ending.  :P

Well, sure, probably put more up later.  Still have to try for the brass ring and take a whack at Green.  (That one will hurt me.)

No comments on the process from me in this thread, but I could see that being a possibility.  As for reasoning?  Well, thank you.  That's the level of logic and integrity you can expect from someone named "Fapmaster5000".  The name is just an indication of the maturity and reasoning I try to bring everywhere I go.  :innocent:
