When I think about this more, I think that Bioware is stuck between two options. They can either admit that they were lying, which would make them look really bad, or they could feign ignorence which would make them look like idiots. They chose the latter apparantly....

Agreed.  And its a bad place to be.

But admitting to a mistake or in this case a lie would actually win back fan support. Their attitude, the sheer arrogance displayed throughout this entire cluster**** is beyond my ability to understand.

It's so sad because Casey Hudson was on his way to becoming the next Shigeru Miyamoto, a true legend in the game industry. Mass Effect 2 was so incredible and Mass Effect 3 was going to be his masterpiece, but then the ending ruined everything and now Casey Hudson must be so sad.

He needs our moral and emotional support, not our scorn!

I do feel sorry for him... We are all human after all...

but why would someone go and make big game-prerelease speech about how great, unique and customizable the ending will be and deliver the exact opposite??
and why didn't he involve the rest of the writers for writing the most vital part of the story, the ending??

I think they would have won back a lot of my lost respect by just admitting to what actually happened, because it sure as heck wasn’t that they didn’t “know”.

Chances are time and financial restrictions forced them to abandon their high-flying plans, and maybe they even believed in the things they touted the ending would be before launch. Maybe they thought they’d have time to fix it.

If they’d come out and said, “I’m sorry – the ending didn’t turn out the way we thought, but we believed it was still a worthy ending to the series. Our sincere apologies for not living up to what we said it would be, but this is how things happen in the business sometimes. You have grand dreams that are shot down by circumstances. Hopefully we can right some wrongs with the future DLC, and give all of you the ending that the Mass Effect universe deserves.”

See – humble. I would have clapped my hands and said – yeah! I can wait for the DLC to set things right, I do understand how business messes things up at times. I can see that happening. Good on you, guys, for admitting your mistakes.

But instead we’re lied to AGAIN. Not only the first time with the false statements about what we were getting but a second time that makes it seem like we had unrealistic expectations. Our expectations came from what they were saying.

Broke my heart, Bioware. It’s fast approaching unforgivable behaviour. Why would I trust anything that comes out of Bioware’s mouth regarding any of the games?

They could be promising a new DA3 and when I buy it, all it is, is a re-skinned Pac Man.

When complaining, they'd say - hey, we didn't know the fans had such unrealistic expectations for the game.

I'm done with BioWare games unless they truly fix the ending, not "clarify" the current crap. If I really want to play any of their future games (even though Dragon Age and Mass Effect are the only two franchise I cared for and they're both ruined), there are means of obtaining them and not giving BioWare and EA a single penny...but what games are there, really? I wanted a Kotor 3...not a MMO with a monthly fee and everything else has been shot to hell...

What are they going to say next?

... that they didn't know gamers would get upset with their A/B/C ending even though they themselves had announced before ME3 release that the ending will NOT be an A/B/C ending and that all made choices would matter in the end.

Total joke

I'm looking forward to playing diablo 3 to forget this mass effect 3 ending ordeal

But I hate the fact that D3 doesn't have an offline mode.

Wait for Torchlight 2 then m8.:)

As long as the servers are stable, I won't mind playing D3 online.

I'm surprised they preferred to promote their own mind boggling incompetence than admit they made a mistake.

It was definitely not the sort of statement I'd've expected anyone at BioWare to make.

If they were smart, they would have Mass Effect 3 about uniting all the races and then have a Mass Effect 3: The End or something expansion pack about defeating the Reapers and invading the Citadel. They could have made more money with this move and would not have caused any damage to their reputation. They might ****** off some fans but nowhere near the amount of fans like they did with this ending.

Translation: EA told us not too because it'd be too time consuming and costly. They said if anyone asked to lie and play dumb.

There wasn't any such thing in ME1 or ME2. In ME2 you needed to start from the post mission save if you wanted to make sure everyone actually survived the collector mission. Did anyone bother to tell Bioware that this feature is needed/wanted?

Totally agree. Honestly, remorse and humbleness would have won the fans back right away.

But, um, this might have involved coming to the reality that introducing a omnipotent star child and making Shep his real live teddy bear to help him work out how his toys (synthetics and organics) can play better together isn't exactly a motivating capstone - nor does it fit. At all.

Either the person saying BioWare didn't realize there was a demand for closure was speaking off the cuff and simply misspoke, or they were all coached on how to respond and this is the best their coaches could come up with, or it is a honest answer and BioWare really didn't expect there to be any problems with the current end.

I have a very hard time believing that BioWare, of all companies, really didn't spot any problems with the current end. Unless it was the product of one or two people, was never peer-reviewed or second-guessed, and there wasn't enough time to change it...

Ugh. Nevermind. I'm amazed at how badly BioWare dropped the ball with the ending. I understand everyone at BioWare sticking to their guns, and that's great. It's just such a shame that they have to stick to their guns over something that's such a dramatic shift in narrative quality.

And why didn't anyone ask about the deus ex machina?!

BioWare, if there's any chance at all of a FAQ here on the forums, that's one question that a lot of us would love to see answered: why did the writers believe that deus ex machina was the appropriate way to conduct the finale?

I think its amusing that in ME3 Shepard tells Lieutenant Victus this after he admits its his fault the ship crashed.

"Owning your mistakes take guts. But you have to get over it and move on"

If only Victus had used the "artistic integrity" excuse he could of chickened out.

Bioware, just ... no.

For all that is good and holy, stop pissing off your fans.

Also, this "artistic integrity" shtick is starting to remind me of when BioWare referred to what they did in DA2 as "innovation".

It's actually quite straightforward. If a labor of love, something you spent years making, is suddenly and abruptly attacked on quality, of all things, you're bound to get defensive about it. I know I would. It's irrational, because it doesn't do them any favors. But is it understandable? I'd say yes.

How can you be shocked we wanted this. It was your selling points for the entire series. You seemed to have known exactly what we wanted all through 1 (without gamer feedback I might add) and all through two and even up to the last 5-10 minutes of 3. It seems more like as you completed the storyline and thought back to all the time you spent making it to send one final message "BLEEP you Shepherd, and all your fans too!"

Bioware, if this is one of your PR guys, fire them.

Fire them and hire, I don't know, someone with a raging case of tourettes. At least then you have a viable excuse.

I thought it was a joke when someone mentioned this in the live thread.

Seriously, Bioware, SERIOUSLY?

Between this and the trolls, maybe the anger won't cool down as soon as I thought, after all.
