The campaign incorporated a lot of brand new scenarios, had a great enemy spawn system, and was a good challenge on Veteran difficulty. I found its competitive multiplayer to be the best in the series, as the maps are conducive to epic and grueling team objective modes, and of course, **** Zombies.
Dragon Age II comes close though, as does Road Avenger (Sega Mega-CD) and the first Shen-Mue on the Dreamcast.

Call of Duty: World at War. The game is an absolute masterclass in video game presentation. The menus, the loading screens, Sean Murray's score, the voice acting (Gary Oldman and Kiefer Sutherland are both great)... it's all amazing.

After reading that I'm not sure if you are serious.

I can quite assure you that i am being serious.
I understand that DAII is not to to everyones taste and it had a few problems (namely the recycling of enviornments) but i loved the art direction, characters and the way Hawke interacted with them, the combat and the story was the best BioWare have ever penned.

(Still stings a bit that EA, which acquired and dissolved OSI named their software management service Origin, but the service seem alright now despite it's shaky [shady?] origins. It handles the EA games better than Steam anyway, but that's another topic.)

Probably not a huge surprise with my avatar but it took everything I loved about the first game and improved on it. There have been a few *cough* missteps around here doing just that. Also, ghosting through an entire mission is great feeling.

A single game: Halo 2
A series: Mass Effect, IF they fix the ending if not it will unfortunately end up in a place of wasted potential, KOTOR2, Beyond, Good & Evil, Lost Planet, AVP and hopefully not Mass Effect 3.

Witcher 2 is a close second though, that game is a true piece of art.

Blade Runner (Westwood Studios, 1997)
That was a damn interesting game, and it was a good looking game for the time. I also have to agree with Crusty on Rome:Total War, it's deffinitely a game worthy of mention. Descent Freespace 1 & 2, Baldur's Gate 1 &2, Dune: Battle for Arrakis, Shining Force, Morrowind and Contra are all pretty memorable and close contenders.
To me though, I have to go with... Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Yeah, that game has elements of everything: gothic horror, rpg elements in a platformer and the best soundtrack still that I've experienced in a game.

Great music, colourful graphics, extreamly fun to play and is everything that a good game should be. It's the only game i could play again and again and never get tired of it and it's been that way since the game was released for me.
