Why do people resent "carrying" other players?

Most of the time I play Silver (not all, I happily admit to it not being all the time) I find that I am among the better half of the players in the team.  And in fact, I quite often find myself "carrying" the other players.  I had a game earlier tonight in which one player - despite running around and firing their gun like a lunatic - still had a score of less than 10,000 when we fully extracted.  And, well ... so what?
I don't see that it was a problem.  Myself and one of the other players did most of the work, the aforementioned less good player ran around firing entire assault rifle clips at anything that even vaguely looked shifty, and the fourth player helped out too.
And we simply played the game and enjoyed ourselves.

Then, as I always do at the end of an evening's play, I joined a Gold team.  And I ended up being carried myself.  I ran around cloaked, reviving and headshotting (well, I aimed for headshots *g*), and as we got Full Extraction, I had less than half the score of the 2nd ranked player.
And nobody minded.  We simply played the game and enjoyed ourselves.

Why does it matter if not everyone meets your exacting standards?  I bet you don't always meet other peoples standards either.  So simply play the game and enjoy yourself.  And let others do the same.  :)

I fully realise this thread is going to have very little effect on most of the people it's aimed at but I felt like I should say something.  The attitude of many of the people on here and in the game is very tiresome.
Just relax and enjoy the game.  You don't have to turn a co-op game into a competitive one.  :)

It's the internet. And assuming you're on XBL, it's even worse. People like to feel "elite".

As long as we aren't losing because of someone not pulling his weight, I don't care. More points for me. If we constantly are wasting our positioning and equipment trying to babysit someone? Then yeah, I'll be upset. Not enough to send a message, but enough to kick if I don't see some improvement.

It's more of the fact that if the person they are carrying was gone, they might get someone who can contribute.

I don't really mind.

I especially don't mind when that one person who has the lowest score doesn't die as often as the others. I feel safer that way. Have one or two people go CRAZY with their score while the other lives far more often. That's been my experience anyway.

It's AFKers leeching XP not carrying poor players that is the problem.

I only hate carrying when I know the other people are idiots and when all of the other players scores add up to mine -_-

As long as the 4th player isn't being stupid and at least seems to be trying, I don't mind. Someone has to finish last, and once in a great while it's me (usually only when I'm the "throw" man of a biotic explosion tag team).

Score doesn't matter for me AT ALL. If that Salarian Engineer was placing decoys well, if that Asari was Stasis bubbling everything, that Infiltrator was capturing objectives and reviving people when possible, I don't care If I finish 100000+ while they at 30000 on Gold. I LOVE that kind of TEAM players.

This.  Lost track of the times I've been in a match where we were two down and a hack failed because of some idiot AFKer who'd found himself in a hiddy hole and been there for five rounds, but no one else had vote kicked him.

I don't mind carrying less experienced players at all, mostly because I'm there to have a good time, not wave my ePeen around.

QFT. Everyone was **** once, being carried is a good way for someone to know how they'd survive in gold with an normal team.

when there's a 20-50k xp difference from the last place and the third place , then its a pain to be carrying. When the team is balanced then i dont care.

You think 20,000 xp difference between first and third means someone is being carried??  What difficulty level are you talking about ... ?

I don't really mind carrying someone as long as they're actually trying to be a team player.

As opposed to some players I've run into that are on the other side of the map from the rest of the squad, then get mad when we don't revive them.

I can get tired of it sometimes, sometimes it makes me feel badass.

However I really like people to be within 10k of my score because that means we're all pulling our weight and streamlining the fun. The score system isn't accurate within 10k definitely, probably not even 20k but if you are more than 20k behind the person in front of you it's a signal that either you need to practice more with whatever setup you are running, or your setup is no good.

The number doesn't matter. It's when someone...

- Isn't helping on objectives.
- Can't be relied upon to watch his side of the map.
- Has to be rescued over and over again.
- Is overall just playing dumb.

That sort of "carrying", I find annoying. If the guy's doing fine but isn't contributing as much? That's cool. If he's not only not contributing, but also adding difficulty because of the way he plays? Yeah. I wanna kick that guy.

i said last place and third place that means the guy on 1st place has a 75-100k difference from the last place usually.

And im talking on silver and gold *although its rare for such huge xp differences to happen on gold, if they do then its mission failure*

Exactly this. Struggling through even a silver match because we have somebody far, far behind the rest of the team is annoying, because I'm doing a larger share of the fighting, running, defending, and it's pretty annoying to share rewards with somebody who clearly didn't earn them.

Some people cannot contribute outside of bronze. But they continue to exist in silver, in almost every game, because they simply allow others to carry them. Even worse is in gold, where I've yet to find a random group where one person wouldn't have been a burden on a silver team.

There are differing difficulties with differing rewards, and some people don't mind playing higher difficulties without being capable of it, to the detriment of their team.

I want a teammate, not a handicap.

You should re-read his post. He says 20-50k between LAST and THIRD place.

Oh sorry, I misread it.
But 20,000 between 3rd and 4th isn't that much, either ...

I have no problem carrying people in Bronze or Silver. Chances are they're new to the game or new to Silver difficulty, and they'll never learn the ropes of either if people aren't willing to cut them a little slack. On Gold, though, I don't expect to have to carry people unless I know them and they've specifically asked for my help with getting used to Gold. If you random in to my Gold game, I expect you to be able to pull your weight.

Yeah, I can see why that might prove to be slightly irksome.  :crying:
