Why do people resent "carrying" other players?

You either have good players that knows this is coop game and knows what they're doing. I'm sorry but level 1s are only good if you have a GOOD group. If not most of the time in a team comp the level one is useless in gold. I don't give a **** if you used your level 1, the only reason why it worked out is because I stated that you had friends and a team comp that worked. In a PUG room GTFO unless you're really that amazing.
Another thing carrying someone IMO is the jackass sitting off to the side doing nothing. When I see an afk I usually just bail. Its a video game, have fun and PLAY. **** like this gives a new meaning to lazy gamers.

As I've said before in this thread, I'm not trying to defend "AFKers" or "leechers". I don't like them either - if nothing else I just think it rude to just sit there are let all the others do the work for you.
The problem I have is with people being "LE3T" and thinking they're God's gift to gaming and that anyone who doesn't meet their arbitrary standards of "N7 Ranking" or "correct weapon loadout" or even just "quality of player" should be instantly booted and scorned and told to "go back to Bronze".

Score doesn't matter for me AT ALL. If that Salarian Engineer was placing decoys well, if that Asari was Stasis bubbling everything, that Infiltrator was capturing objectives and reviving people when possible, I don't care If I finish 100000+ while they at 30000 on Gold. I LOVE that kind of TEAM players.
Score can be an indicator, but it should be taken with a grain of salt. Somebody always has to finish last, and if I felt that person was playing well, supporting the rest of the team (or even that he tried, but just wasn't doing well, and/or the rest of us were just faster than him) then I don't care at all.

I don't really mind carrying someone as long as they're actually trying to be a team player.
As opposed to some players I've run into that are on the other side of the map from the rest of the squad, then get mad when we don't revive them.
I LOVE good green newbies on Silver and Bronze (I'm not used to Gold enough yet to carry people there.) I'd rather play with them than the experienced types, sometimes. Even if they don't do so well, at least they are usually making an effort.
I find it difficult to care about what I'm doing if no one else cares. The opposite is true if I feel like they're trying--it makes me want to do the same.
^Holy crap, THIS. (Heh, if we were on the same platform, I'd try to add you just for posting that.)staindgrey wrote...
The number doesn't matter. It's when someone...
- Isn't helping on objectives.
- Can't be relied upon to watch his side of the map.
- Has to be rescued over and over again.
- Is overall just playing dumb.
That sort of "carrying", I find annoying. If the guy's doing fine but isn't contributing as much? That's cool. If he's not only not contributing, but also adding difficulty because of the way he plays? Yeah. I wanna kick that guy.
I've played with a guy like that on Gold, who was in second place the whole match--above me and the other guy who was on the bottom (yet indispensible and clearly playing well despite the low points).
I loved the top person's playstyle because she was clearly a team player despite kicking all our asses, which I can only admire when I play with someone like that. I hated Mr. #2's attitude, though. He kept dying and dying because he kept poking his idiot nose far in front of the group's path to try to "steal" every kill he could from the rest of us. Over time and a few games it became clear that was his only concern, scoring as many points as possible.
I can't stand that type. It's one thing if you rock as a player--that's great. Go ahead and beat me, and I will think you're awesome, and try to learn from your awesomeness. But please, please don't be stupid about it. Let me back you up, don't constantly rush off. I can take being lower than you in the rankings as long as I'm not sitting there wondering, "why am I here? Oh, yeah. I'm that jerk's rez pony for those times when jumping in front of my gun to kill the thing I'm trying to kill before I can doesn't turn out so well."
If that's what you mean, then I don't mind as long as I can carry them. If we keep wiping beause it's Silver or Gold and somebody clearly just isn't even trying, then it's like Maria said... dying over and over again isn't my idea of fun. Maybe I should just give them advice, but you never know if they'll cuss you out for trying. Especially if you're female, which to a few idiots (certainly not everyone) is some kind of manhood-threatening disease and/or myth, which would make you trying to give them advice some kind of massive insult rather than being one player trying to help another. You never know whether you're going to get the cool type who actually listens and improves, or the other kind.Stenun wrote...
I'm not talking about "AFK"ers or "leechers". I'm talking about players who aren't as good as the rest of the team but still try.
Or even if we succeed, but others keep running off and dying rather than trying to stick to the group and I have to spend the rest of each wave wondering if I can carry it alone... that's stressful. I like playing the hero sometimes, but not when I am unused to the character I'm playing or when I feel like the others don't much care if I save them because they expect me to do everything. If I want to solo, I solo! I don't want to solo when I chose to play in a team! Which, to be fair, is most of the time, because playing multiplayer completely alone feels pretty sad (unless you're just doing it once to prove to yourself that you're that good with the character or something.)
You can feel that, generally. Points don't matter so much, as I've shown in the example above; you can generally just feel/sense the intentions of others through their behavior in the game and tell whether someone is trying to be at least marginally useful and just not doing well, or when they don't care and they're basically trolling/coasting at best. The former I have full sympathy for on every difficulty but Gold (and even a little there, depending on how much they're trying); the latter... no. Just no.

Because I don't want a hurt back.
I don't see why this is such a big issue for some people.
I don't mind the occasional low N count guy in a group of 200+, if he's level 20 -- he may just like only that character and not want to promote anyone else.
But the ugly truth is that for every low N, low level player I've seen that can perform, I've seen 10 that just end up dead on the floor and making us 25% weaker. Gold is not for new players, and it's not for people who aren't familar with the game.
I don't have a lot of time to game, and I'd prefer to enjoy it rather than be frustrated due to someone else not being able to carry the load. Sure, a person can be good at level 7, but they're better at 20, and that is just hard fact.

Most of the time I play Silver (not all, I happily admit to it not being all the time) I find that I am among the better half of the players in the team. And in fact, I quite often find myself "carrying" the other players. I had a game earlier tonight in which one player - despite running around and firing their gun like a lunatic - still had a score of less than 10,000 when we fully extracted. And, well ... so what?...
Just relax and enjoy the game. You don't have to turn a co-op game into a competitive one.
I generally don't mind carrying players on Bronze level. I look at that stage as the prep phase for Silver and Gold - what I don't like is when a player is level 12 or something in the lobby for Silver level (for example), sees 3 other high level (13+) players join, then switches their character to a base level 1 starter character.
If it was Bronze level - I wouldn't mind. Shoot, a player with good skills and weapons can dominate at level 1 on Bronze. But I haven't seen anyone able to do that on Silver w/o a lot of dying...usually in front of a pack of enemies, making it impossible to save them, and making finishing the mission all that much harder for the 3 left.

As a Salarian Infi, I may rack up first or second place on the points table, but team playing contributes to my ability to snipe effectively. If no one's aiding the team, or decoying, or watching my back so I don't get taken down by enemies that come from behind while I'm scoping, or aren't cooperatively moving as a group, then I'm not going to be as successful. The same for any class and any team; working together is the key to everyone getting ahead.
Sidenote: I especially do not care about N7 ranking. They mean nothing. I have been at level 200 N7 since the second week the game came out and I'm still around that same spot. I prefer not promoting my characters so I can have a full range of Level 20 choices at my disposal when playing. This way I can pick up whatever character I want, when my mood strikes, or I can switch to a different character to adapt to the team (if it looks like biotic explosion team, or a tech burst team, or a group of infiltrators need a decoy engineer etc). N7 rank gives no indication as to whether someone is a 'good' player.

But like everyone and their mother has said score doesn't tell the whole story. I've been last place but gotten more medals and saved the team from several wipes by being a damn good rez pony. And I've played with people where I've been killing like crazy and practically been soloing but one bit of bad luck and I'm glad they are around to finish an objective or rez by dead self.

Also I don't mind playing with people who suck because they are learning, that's like telling a little kid that they are stupid, they haven't learned anything yet, let them figure it out, or go be teh leet on your own.
