Upgrading from DA:O to DA:O Ultimate Edition. How to handle keys?

Hey folks.  I'm hoping someone here can offer me a little guidance.  I've owned the vanilla version of DA:O for a while now, but none of the DLC beyond The Stone Prisoner and Blood Dragon Armor that came with it.  I just bought the Dragon Age complete collection from Amazon that includes DA:O Ultimate and Dragon Age 2 because it was hard to argue with paying $10 for all of the other Origins content and DA2.  It's going to be a little while before I get around to playing them, but I'd like to handle the Origins keys as efficiently as possible when I do.

So, as I said, I currently have DA:O, The Stone Prisoner, and Blood Dragon Armor on my Bioware account.  Amazon gave me 2 keys specific to the Origins Ultimate Edition: one says "registration code" and the other says "DLC registration code."  I'm assuming I'm probably not going to manage to pass on the duplicate DLC that I've already registered, but is there a way I can handle it so I've got a usable registration for the base game that I can give to a friend with my old disc version?

I can see two ways that might work:
-I'm not sure what exactly is tied to each of the two registration codes Amazon gave me.  Does anyone know if the generic "registration code" only authorizes the DA:O base game? And if so, can I just add the "DLC registration code" to my account to get access to Awakening and the other DLC, and put the unused Amazon code with my disc copy?

-Or, I see there's an option within my Bioware account to remove my current DA:O registration from my disc version.  If I do that before registering my new digital Ultimate Edition copy, does it free up the registration key that came with the disc to be re-used by someone else on their own account?

Hopefully that's clear.  I suppose the simple way of stating it is I've now bought DA:O twice, and I'm wondering it's both possible and allowed for me to give my original copy to someone else while getting the newly purchased bonus content onto my own account.  Thanks! :)

The short answer:  No.

The less-than-short-answer: once DLC codes are registered to your Bioware/EA account, they cannot be transfered.  If you want to give your old vanilla copy of the game to a friend, you can do so.  By using the product key that came with the game, they can play the base game without registering it on the social network (I am assuming the vanilla version of the game is on disc-- if it is a digital version, then you can't transfer it, as far as I know).

Thanks for the quick answer!  I figured the DLC was a lost cause.  The vanilla version is indeed on disc, and that's all I'm looking to pass on.

One more clarification: if they can't register the base game on the social network (even if I've removed the registration for it from my own account?), will it be possible for them to buy the expansion and/or DLC and play it with the disc copy not registered on the social network?

Hmmm... that I don't know for sure (I am a gamer like you, not an actual Bioware/EA employee).  However, I think they can purchase DLC as long as they have a valid Bioware account.  They would need to use that account to log in through the game to authorize the DLC.

DA:O does not use the "online pass" system introduced with Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2, so I think it should work.  There's no harm in unregistering your old copy if you're giving it away.  I would suggest doing that *before* redeeming the codes for Ultimate Edition, anyway.

Sounds like the way to go is to just unregister the old copy, register the new one, and let the recipient figure out what they can and can't do with it.

Ah! I saw the blue text under the name and just assumed.  In that case, I'm doubly appreciative of your time and assistance and I'll spare you any rants about the frustrating state of modern software "ownership." ;)

I too have a question I need answered before I even start playing this game. I just bought the same amazon pack of DA 1 & 2 with expansions and several downloadable content packs included; I entered the game keys and they registered fine for both-I went to where you enter the shorter keys for extra content, and they also succeeded. Now comes the problems, one of which is unrelated to the keys, but it's still odd-I downloaded the character creator to make a PC and get the free item for doing so in the game, but it refuses to upload the character to the internet-it says it did, it uploads, then is done, yet going online to view it, it says I've uploaded nothing. So anyway I open the game and view the downloadable content, and it all says it is all activated, yet none of it is AUTHORIZED!!! WTF? They gave me a key that activates content successfully but isn't authorized?!? What kind of ripoff scam is this? Nowhere does it tell me how to do anything else. I go back to the bioware social network, and I click on the info. for the content, and it tells me to download each file to my pc, then install then manually with these steps:

To access your content on the PC, please ensure you log in with the same account you used while redeeming this code on the social website. Once you have done this, your content will automatically start downloading the next time you log in with this account in-game.

If the content does not start downloading automatically in the game, please follow these steps:

Right click on the link below and select "Save Target As", or the equivalent in your browser. Save the .dazip file to your computer. If your browser tries to rename it to a .zip file, rename it back to .dazip after download.
Find the daupdater.exe application. It is usually located under \\bin_ship in your Dragon Age folder (for example C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daupdater.exe). Double click on it to open it.
Click on "Select DAZIPs". Navigate to where you have saved the .dazip file and open it.
Now the .dazip file will appear on the Install tab. Select it on the list and click "Install Selected."

Now come more problems, because I downloaded the game with the origin installer, and I can't find anywhere on my hard drive that it put the game. There is no folder for it, there is no finding it with a search, there is no link to anything but the shortcut to play the game. The folder the above program is supposed to be in to install the downloaded files simply cannot be found, nor can my entire DAO folder!!! On the upside it finds my DAO character creator folder, and I found it easily myself, yet that helps none since that character won't even upload to the social network as it says it will. So I have no idea whether the PC I made in it will actually be available to use in the game-most likely not, because how would he have gotten there from the creator which refuses to upload it the website? Another WTF?!? Now it gets even better! It tells me when I try to manually download these files from the updater in the game that because my activated content is not authorized, that if I load the game and start it with any of these files in the game, then those save games will be corrupted/unusable/can't move the files between the games, etc. So this warning has me steering clear of even trying to hit the freaking PLAY button!!! I activated them already, and I also downloaded the latest patch, 1.0.5 or whatever, and I don't know whether it's going to tell me that all this content I PAID for and UNLOCKED yet is somehow BAFFINGLY UNAUTHORIZED althought it's a VALID KEY FROM BIOWARE is going to force me to be unable to save or transport characters and other files between games!!! Help me with all this crazy nonsense!! I am not stupid in any way and this bull just keeps me having to jump through hoop after hoop and NONE of these hoops leads to getting these files downloaded successfully and also AUTHORIZED!!! What are these people thinking?!? NEVER had I had to do so much garbage just to hit the play button, and it's been all day and I haven't even played it AT ALL due to this massive warning that IF YOU PLAY THIS GAME AS IS, BIOWARE WILL EAT YOUR SOUL or something to that effect *sarcasm off*-what I really need to know is WHERE ON EARTH did Origin put this game on my computer? My computer can't even find it yet it will launch it!?!? Also, some of the content pack files can be downloaded manually with .exe files, and I'm doing that as we speak. Some of them CANNOT and must be downloaded with the above mentioned installer that can't be found because the game cannot be found on my computer after origin put it in a dimensional pocket that the shortcut link can amazingly access yet no one else can, OR they must be downloaded by the game itself after launched, but THEY'RE not authorized with this WORKING AND VALID KEY FROM BIOWARE, so how am I supposed to get all this stuff I paid for into the game? I know I got it cheap, but this is the only reason I bought this game this way, because it came with all these EXTRAS! WHERE ARE MY EXTRAS?!? I am pulling my freaking hair out!!!

while installing one of the .exe files, I finally found the DA folder, in the Origin Games folder, which I never noticed because I checked another folder called Origin (obviously for the O program but none of the games) and what I was looking for wasn't in it-didn't realize there was this folder also. So I manually installed witch hunt, but now I am using the daupdater.exe program from the game folder to install all the other files, so after I get all of them successfully installed, I will go and see if this game is still telling me that my downloads are unauthorized. If so, I'll be calling Bioware ASAP!

also, there's no way to manually download the other extras-the feast day pranks and gifts content, the blood dragon armor, or the stone prisoner; and I still doubt it's going to let me upload my character from the creator to online.

I am NOT SURPRISED that when finally hitting play it says my game cannot launch due to a misconfiguration, please uninstall and try again! I don't know if I want to try anything again with this awful-installing game!!!

to make this even more enjoyable, origin is now refusing to download it again; it just keeps making me push the button but nothing will happen, but DA2 will at least start-I just don't want it downloaded quite yet until I get this one fixed since DA2 ALSO FAILED on first attempt!!! What HORRIBLE DOWNLOAD SERVICE!!!

your customer service is worse than your game install problems; on live chat, she never would respond to my main questions, just kept posting generic "fixes" that didn't do anything, and in the middle of doing yet another one which did nothing to fix my problem of making sure the uninstall was clean so i could start a new one, she disconnected me, along with all the text she had posted for me to do

she would never do anything but try to rush me through by telling me dumb things like uninstall and reinstall, that will fix all your problems, although i have already uninstalled and CAN'T start a reinstall which is my problem right now; then she says download the patch it will fix all your problems, i said no it won't because it didn't the FIRST time i downloaded it, nor did it for everyone else who posted all over the forums. i swear what kinda crack rock are you people smoking? i'm getting a SERIOUS REFUND on this piece of crap software!!!! give me neverwinter nights any day-it freaking WORKS!!!

I don't care if you ban me you need to be reported to the Better Business Bureau for PURE FRAUD for releasing the garbage and selling it to people STILL after all these years and you still haven't fixed these bugs what is your problem?!?!?
