I don't remember where, but I do remember reading that Hawke or the Warden will not be returning for the third game, so yeah who will we get to be?
Personally, I hope we get to create and play as characters who aren't human like we got to in Origins. When I'm playing a fantasy game i want to play as something fantastic...humans are boring. In my opinion anyways, I know(are there?) that there are people who prefer to play as humans.
P.S. If a certain announcement concerning the player character was made, and I missed it can someone let me know?

Most likely another BioWare's happy-go-lucky character that talk by himself/herself, make ridiculous expression 5 minutes after his/her family member dies and constantly "forget" everything she/he had been through due to his responsive nature. /sarcasmLeon Ciasslasi wrote...
We know DA3 is coming even without an official announcement, but what I want to know is who will this protagonist be?

Either way, they're going keep the dialogue wheel and a voiced character for the third game. Me, I miss the days of the silent protagonist.

No disrespect meant to anyone on this forum, but I absolutely hate playing as a human. Sure, I'm a human in real life and I mingle with humans every day, but then what's the point of role-playing in a fantasy game if you can't role-play fantasy races that you can't be in real life? Might as well just stick to reality in that case, or play a different genre.

Being forced to play as a human puts a sort of mundane feeling to the game doesn't it?

By surrender I hope you mean "Keep away from me! Orlais will burn Kirkwall to the ground!"

... I'm also hoping they make the Elves look pretty again 'cause I'll be most displeased if we are forced to play an Elf that looks like it's taken a wallop mallet to the face lol.

Human badass with cool sounding surname. That's about it as far as character creation options go. I'm personally more interested in having options to develop the character during the main plot, rather than being able to chose my shortness, whether or not I have horns, or the relative pointedness of my ears.
I think for people it's less about choosing your potential height and aesthetic features like that, though that does play a role in it, and I feel that the real issue lies somewhere in between lore and roleplaying. Dragon Age is supposed to be a roleplaying game, and when they take out our ability to do said roleplay by giving us a predefined cinematic chatacter, then that just shows us that somewhere down the line bioware forgot the type of game they were making.
About the character developement that you said though, I agree with you there that it should be important and something that happens as you go on through the game. Was there character developement in DA2? Yeah, but mostly just for the companions. With Hawke it was more decided which of the three buttons you want to play for the rest of the game and keep clicking it.

I agree with you more or less.
Gender is important to me. I want to choose the gender. Especially if that has consequenses for my roleplaying in regards to possible LI for example.
Other than that as far as the PC goes It does not really matter to me.
What you say about developing your character during the game and the influence you have in it that is what's important.
But I suspect that Bioware has the main character set allready

I think that advocates of race options want the chance to develop their characters too, which is part of why they ask for it. The difference between races in Thedas is not just outward aesthetic appearances but cultural and societal viewpoints. How characters of different races view themselves and each other greatly impacts who they are, how they treat each other and how they fit into any given society around them.
Dwarves are expected to value honour and tradition even if they don't, elves are a subjugated minority that are hated by humans and elves of different cultures (Alienage vs. Dalish vs. Circle Elf, anyone?), and Kossiths' lives are likely ruled by the Qun, either because they're expected to adhere to it like the Qunari or oppose it like the Tal-Vashoth. Hows individuals respond to these expectations can say so much about them.
Playing only as a human means you only see the world from human eyes, which can get flat and boring for many gamers. Playing as another race allows you to explore other aspects of society and how it affects your character, in ways that a human protagonist travelling through a human-dominated world could never see or understand.
That's why I think that many of people want different races. Not just for the sake of being short or having pointed ears or horns, but exploring how those physical differences affect who they are, how they see the world and how they are seen and treated by those around them, which ultimately contribute to their character growth and development.
Not that wanting is having, but there you go. Just imho, of course.

They said that DA3 would be the compromise between DAO and DA2, DAO = 3 races DA2 = 1, middle ground = 2, besides the telemetry says that only 5% played a Dwarf and 15% elves, so elves are more likely, and would make more sense, Dwarves don't care about surfacers and there aren't that many Dwarves on the surface.
