What do you think of these weapon/class combinations in ME3?

Vanguard
I know the Shotgun is the traditional weapon for Vanguard.
Instead I take a SMG as my primary, then a Scoped Pistol to occasionally snipe people out of Biotic Charge range.
My reason is the light weight of those weapons let me use Biotic Charge and other powers very frequently.
Soldier (still playing through)
Likewise, I know the Assault Rifle is the traditional weapon fo Soldiers.
However, I found the Viper Sniper Rifle to be really effective. Sometimes I couple it with a SMG in case of ammo.
My reason is I found Adrenaline Rush lets me kill faster with multiple Sniper headshots.
---
In both cases, I found these weapon/class combinations more effective than the traditional weapon pairings and was wondering if I'm the only one. Am I simply doing it wrong?

If I am using SMG, I am using it just for kicks and not for practical reasons
EDIT: As it is... SMG are pretty much worthless

Really you can pick any gun combination for any class and do fine. It is the flawed beauty of ME3.

I'm playing on Hardcore or Insanity on my playthroughs, importing different characters from ME2. I noticed weapon weight and power cooldown affects multiplayer, but you're right, with single player you naturally pick up the cooldown bonuses anyway.
For the Vanguard, I noticed the SMG is good for finishing off enemies near death, which happens. But overall, it is very useless. I took it along with my Pistol because +200% cooldown bonus, but you're right, I very seldomly use it. I think it's the habit from ME2, when the SMG is useful to strip shields and barriers.
I'm going to check out the Falcon, I really like what you said there. It's kind of how I saw a Scoped Pistol, like it's a hybrid and very versatile.

Hi guys, finishing up a 3rd playthrough here and I noticed the weapons I'm using are not those associated with their classes. For example...

If you drop an Ultralight Materials Mod into your SMG, you should be able to get away with a Scimatar, Eviscerator, Wrath or Katana, plus an SMG, plus a Carnifex or a Paladin and still be at 200% cooldown. Especially one NG+.
I don't play Soldier, but from what I understand, you should be able to manage a Sniper Rifle and an Assault Rifle, provided you don't pick one of the uberheavy ones.
