"Time To Live" is what matters and a point in constitution increases that more-so than a point in dexterity.

Only in your scenario where someone has 40 armor and he's being attacked by 1 thing.  If I'm taking 15 pts of damage per whack, that 3 Con is gone in 3 hits, whether that's 3 swings from 1 guy, ot 1 swing from 3 guys.

The more foes that you face simultaneously, the better Dex is because the number of incoming attacks increase.

The only class that can even reach an 80% or higher avoidance rate is the rogue. They start with 6 more defense than the warrior(5 more base defense, 1 more base dexterity) and can dump all of their points into dexterity. A warrior needs to dump over 20 points into strength for armor requirements.

Only if you're insisting on the best massive armor in the game.   If you are happier with the lower tier of armor, then your Defense can get quite decent, meaning that few of the attacks are actually hitting, which means that the armor and con isn't as neccessary.

As you say, it's "time-to-live", but the calculations are completely different given different character builds and gear loadouts.

And consider this... a higher HP pool goes away in the first round of beatings.  When you drink a potion, that higher HP doesn't neccessarily come back for a given strength of potion.  The Defense is still active and applicable for reducing damage even after the 10th healing potion, if it came to that.

Defense is actually the same as armor.  Instead of reducing a small amount every hit, it reduces a larger amount on some hits.

Who wouldn't want more armor?  You don't need an 80% avoidance rate for it to be useful.
