The majority of the year still remains. I wouldn't give any game that "award" just yet.

I am just using your post as example, no offense here. ME 3 was voted the most Anticpiated Game of the Year in 2011. What game coming out in the next year has that title? ME 3 had a lot of hype and a major amount buzz around it, unlike a vast majority of games coming out this year that doesn't have a movie tie-in(which typically suck anyways). Bioware/EA put themselves on this high level, the fall is coming.

Nothing could be more disappointing than ME3 this year. A 5 year build up for a trilogy to end so poorly will be soul crushing for at least a year.

These stand alone titles that come out this year and fail don't really matter to me.

Got hopes for Tomb Raider reboot and Halo 4. Crystal Dynamics has really stepped it up and I'm excited for 343's fresh take on Halo.

Halo 4 is the only thing really I could see that could cause the backlash ME3 has.

The other games coming out just don't have the hype around them to cause such disappointment if they are bad.

ME3 is the lead candidate for the most disappointing game of 2012 only because The Old Republic was released in 2011. We still have 3 more Qs to go through and see which games live up to their marketing.

For those saying the ending was the only disappointing part of the game, it is the last game in this series of Mass Effect games isn't the ending the most important part of the game?

Since there's no "choice" involved, you just roll with it in games like Halo. Back lash has no chance of being this bad.

Definetely for me.

ME3 was my most anticipated of the year and let me down worse than any game, movie or book before it.

Keep in mind that being the biggest disappointment doesn't necesarily me it is the worst game of 2012. It is indeed a great game, but with all the hype and so on it is so far still the biggest disappointment, atleast for me

Same here. Wasn't just the ending either for me.

Game of the year for me, and that's with the ending. Odds are the extended cut solidifies this position.

I don't play many other games, though.

More like the best game of the year. The ending was the years dissapointment.

The game in itself is not even near the most disappointing game as it is a great game, probably the best game this year, but the ending is the most disappointing ending ever, not only the years most disappointing ending.

Unfortunaly, because of the ending I can't give it my vote for GOTY, if the extended cut makes the series replayable again, then maybe it will get my GOTY vote. But it will probably go to Witcher 2.

Let me just say that the game play in ME 3 is exciting and fun. I had a
blast with the new moves and new weapons. It is the story that is
disappointing, that is the most important part of the game. Sure the
ending was a big factor, but there is a major disconnect from the
storytelling in ME 1 and ME 2.

In the pervious 2 games, there
was more devolopment of the story and characters with Shepards
interactions. Your Shepard, with your replies, decided how they
devoloped in the game. In turn, you could effect who lives or dies in
the game. While parts of ME 3 are like that, it does not effect who the
story plays out. Your choices does not effect anything really in this
game's story. You could possibly kill everyone in your crew and still
get to the Starchild. That is the major disappointment in ME 3, there
are no consequences to your choices that effect the end result.

In
my opinion, ME 3 is a disappointing game because it fails to measure up
to ME 1 and ME 2.  There drama moments in ME 3, but there is no overall
drama in the game once you figure it out. The story does not want to
come back and try something different because it all ends the same. That
is not something Bioware/EA should be touting as "artistic" vision. It
something they should look at when doing a RPG game as a mistake. The
major key in a RPG, in my opinion, is how the player's choices effects
how the story unfolds. ME 3 unfolds to the same spot no matter what you
do and that is a failure.

I know the 75 critics love this game,
but that means 75 people out of 3 million love this game. It doesn't
really mean anything if they are the only one's that like it, now does
it? I know more that think there is nothing wrong with game and it
perfect in every possible way. I am just say touting that is a bit
childish since it is only 75 people that happen to have a publication to
print their opinions. Sorry Bioware/EA, I think ME 3 will be voted the
most disappointing game of 2012.

I'd say yes, because it had so much potential and most of the game was genious, but the ending destroyed the franchise. So, yes, it is not by far the worst game (it is still awesome), but it is the most disappointing game EVER for me!

For me, it is the most disappointing game ever.

I don't play a huge number of games. I play the ME series, the AC series, the Uncharted series, and own every Bioware game ever made for a console. These are the games I preorder on name and past experience alone. Not surprisingly, Bioware is no longer a blind faith purchase.

Other games I buy on an individual basis, and very infrequently. I'll be buying The Witcher 2, when it hits consoles this month. That's the kind of game I'm into, as the above list might tell you.

My hopes and expectations for ME3 were not even remotely met. That's not to say it isn't a good game. It most certainly is a good game, and it has some great moments. For me, though, it will always be a bittersweet thing to play. I'm always going to think of what could've been.

Mass Effect 3 could've been one of the greatest games of all time.

My biggest disappointment of 2012 right now is that there is no news about Dawn of War III... :(

I highly recommend the Witcher games. The first one is okay, but the DLC makes up for it. The second one is far superiour to ME 3 that it is impossible for Bioware/EA to claim that they are same level as CDProject.

I don't think so. I suspect Guild Wars 2 is going to take that title. I hear everyone talking about it like it's the second coming, but nothing I've seen really sets it apart from any other MMO out there. ME3, on the other hand, was an absolutely fantastic game, right up until the glowing elevator of doom.

Too mushy for me. I like something with a bit of a crunch to it.

Depends on perspective.

If you hate the endings, but can still appreciate the series, probably not.

If you hate the endings and it ruined the series for you, then without a doubt. Given the lofty expectations going in, I dont even think its possible for any announced game to come out and be more disappointing.

It’s to early in the year to say. ME was such a great franchise. It’s hard to believe that so little care was taken in closing it up. Besides the DLC could make it slightly less disappointing.
