The year isn't over yet, but I'd bet my money on it.
Is ME 3 the most disappointing game of 2012?

So far I would say that it is by far the most disappointing game of the decade! I've been disappoint by quite a few games since 2010, but I have never felt this let down by a game so far.

the only thing I was disappointed epicly in was the ending. the rest of the game I though was good. Certain things like bad journal usage and other minor things I can overlook. The HUGE deviation at the end was REALLY a bad idea. It is like using gasoline for you vehicle forever then saying "let's try diesel now instead". the vehicle smokes makes a bunch of angry noises then dies....kinda like the game. The end implodes, starts smoking, the fanbase makes a bunch of angry noises and then the replayability dies.
I hope the "extended cut" makes the poison pill of an ending at least sugar coated enough for us to swallow....

More like...most disappointing ending of 2012.

The game was great. . . the ending soiled the rest.

As of right now, considering the hype of the release and what has transpired...the answer would be a yes.

"Most disappointing" sounds about right. It's not the worst game, it's not a bad game. it's pretty well-crafted. but if you take it as a whole and consider the ending... yep, overall it was a massive disappointment.

ME3 has the most disappointing endings of all time, but I don't know if the game is the most disappointing for the year.

It seems like a safe bet.

I have unrealistically high expectations for GTA5, which might come out this year. So it's a little early to say. But it's difficult to imagine Rockstar dropping the ball this badly.
So far, ME3 easily stands as my most disappointing experience in any media, ever. And I bought Interpol's third album.

Easily. One of the most disappointing games ever.

I'd wager it will be. To be disappointing, you need to have some kind of higher expectation to begin with. The expectations for ME 3 were very high, and they fell very short. Endings tend to have a strong retro-active impact in how people view the entire investment.

meh , not even close , bar the last 10 min this game is easily of the best ever made . the gameplay is fantastic , characters are great , story is fantastic ( up until the ending ) but to each his own .

Even with all the ending drama, I could never say ME3 was a bad game. For 55 hours I was experiencing the most compelling and emotional storytelling I've seen in a video game. I felt it was way more of a throwback to ME1's RPG elements (which I loved), minus the fact that the dialogue options weren't nearly as branching. Still, I have never felt more emotionally invested in q video game.
I'm just as disappointed with the ending as most of you, and I know there are a lot more quarrels in terms of LI's and old squadmates, etc. But i can easily overlook most of these. (Ie: I liked Kai Lang's role. Sure, he was an emo cyber-punk, but I felt LEGIT hatred for Cerberus because of him)
I'd still say ME3 deserves GOTY.
I do have hope that BW is really taking us seriously, and are going to make SOMETHING work with this bosch'tet of an ending we have ATM. I know a lot of you disagree, but I'm not going to write off my favorite game series of all time because they failed at providing a logical ending. (believe me, I cannot emphasize how much I hate the lore contradictions and SC)
Besides, if none of this happened, we'd never have gotten Marauder Shields and all the hilarious ME3 ending related memes going around. (silver lining? Idk...)

For me, yes.
But I still think it will win a lot of GOTY awards in the end of the year.

If you define disappointment as the greatest contrast between excellence and dreck within a single game, it's certainly in the running. But to be fair, there was far more excellence than dreck. It kept most of its promises, even if it broke its most important promise.
I'm looking forward to Diablo III (not nearly as much as I looked forward to ME3 or Skyrim). I'm sure it will be good, but I do wonder if that style of gameplay will still be as satisfying as it was ten years ago. I'm trying to keep my expectations realistic.

And I'll bet dollars to donuts that every major gaming media outlet is praying for something else to be spectacularly successful in 2012. They have to defend their scoring/reviews of ME3 now, while the controversy is still fresh and revising their cheerleading will hurt too much, but nobody will want to reopen that can of worms again later. They'll all be looking for other candidates to hide behind when the time comes so they can dial back their now-embarrassing enthusiasm for ME3.
On a related note, the days of 9.5s and 10s across the board for Bioware are over, at least for a while. A lot of game reviewers and sites got burned by this -- their own fault, but that's irrelevant -- and anything else coming from Bioware in the next couple of years is going to get picked over with a fine-toothed comb for anything to criticize.

It was a good game. But I expected so much more from the ending I can't help but find this utterly disappointing. No game this year could top ME3 for the most disappointing because there is no other series I cared as much about.

It's a leading contender for most disappointing ending of the decade, which is still young.

Only disappointing because everything tht came before it was so great, starting with ME1. If ME3 had been a standalone game I would have probably just said meh at the end and never thought about it again. But being the ruinous end to a fantastic franchise? Yeah no good.

Most disappointing ending of the decade. But as a full game it didn't disappoint me until the last 10 minutes.

I am a very forgiving gamer. My favorite game of all time is Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. It was a buggy mess with a pretty bad ending. I liked it much much more than ME3, and still replay it sometimes.
Another game with a stupid ending it Borderlands, I still play it, even though the ending was WTF stupid.
ME3 I ruined an entire franchise, not because the ending was worse than other games, but because it was expected it would be so much more. It was from a company that relies on its rep as the premiere story telling game company, we got A B C, Blue Green Red.
Face it Bioware you are held to higher standards.

If I forget about the ending, ME3 by far my favorite in the series. That's only my opinion. And everything for me, besides the last 10 minutes, was everything I expected from the game. ME3 deserves it's high scores, the audio, graphics, and gameplay we're all amazing. And the story was great, up until the last 10 minutes.
So in summary: Most disappointing ENDING of 2012? Possible, as it was probably the most popular game released so far in 2012. But there are far worse games out there that I will probably never play and have worse shortcomings than ME3.
Most disappointing GAME of 2012?!? Seriously guys? If the entire game was crap than no one would care about the ending. ME3 would just be a flop and the world would move on. We're making all this commotion because if it weren't for the last 10 minutes, than ME3 could be the greatest sci-fi game trilogy to date. Just NOT with this ending.

When I was right in the middle of playing it, in my mind ME3 was one of the candidates for Game of the Year-awards etc...
But now? Somehow I doubt that the fans will forget about the entire ending-controversy, and despite the high scores it achieved from game-sites and magazines it would not surprise me if it ended up as the biggest dissapointment of the year 2012...
And no matter how good or bad the EC will turn out, I am sure that no other game will have this kind of impact in the coming moths, hell, in the coming years...
Sadly, that impact was mostly negative...
