I'm going to guess that Human Vanguard and Asari Adept are at the top and Human Soldier and Drellguard are at the bottom.

Well that is hard to tell honestly. Salarian engineers don't often get the most points, but they can hold off waves of enemies alone. By tier list do you want raw killing power? usefulness in the battlefield? or specific character's usefulness against certain enemies.

Well in general the top tier characters are Asari Adept, Salarian Infiltrator.

Everything else is inferior on gold, but on a per class basis, Krogan sentinel, Human Vanguard, Quarian Engineer (could argue Salarian on this one), Turian Soldier (again could argue Krogan soldier).

Human Soldier should be one tier below top, if you know how to use AR.

Least likely to get your whole team killed on Gold

Tier lists dont bring any good in a game, people will only get angry at you for playing whats low on said tier list or something unviable.

Well I remember reading a post saying that the Krogan Sentinel and Asari Vanguard were low tier and I really enjoy playing both but I don't play on Gold. I just want to know that I won't be a burden.

You wont be a burden as long as you have fun and be good at what you are playing(if you are gold difficulty).

Tier lists are stupid.

Man this thread is either going to get buried in oblivion or going to be worthy of popcorn.

For me (Gold only) there's a noticeable - and extreme - gap between *good* classes (obviously depending on faction you're going after) and the *OK* classes, and an even larger gap to the *not likely to pull their own weight* classes.

For most groups the most desireable class is the *SKILLED PLAYER* class.

But seriously. Skilled players who communicate and have mics can make nearly anything work, it just may not be *optimal*.

Tiers are for idiots. Krogan Sentinel is fine- play what you want, as long as it compliments the rest of the team. ie If the entire team is Infiltrators or Engineers, you probably don't want to be a Drell Adept who's trying to set up Biotic Explosions.

Yeah, I prefer the Asari Vanguard over the human since the human just rushes out with only a Phalanx and then just spams charge and nova... then gets killed on anything above bronze when his invincibility frams wear off or gets shot in the back since he can't target an enemy in time. The Asari is much more wel rounded character who can back up players from a distance with Stasis and grenades before charging in.

Okay but what are the good classes and horrible ones?

Valuable parameters need to be set before we work on a tier list.

Things like damage output, survivability, team synergy, weight, health/shields, etc. all need to be considered and weighed against eachother.

Making tier lists is not easy work.

Even less so in a co-op game where you can't stack the characters up against one another.

Tiering should stay with fighting games, and even there it shouldn't dissuade you from using lower ranked characters if you find them fun (plus you get to surprise people with matchups they aren't used to).

Human Adept? I always felt that was mid-tier at best since it's so easy to set off biotic explosions. And are these all as likely to get you killed as Drellguard? I assumed that both Krogan were at least durable.

Speaking of vanguards charging/novaing everything with only a pistol, I really don't get that weapon choice as a katana would still let you have 200% cooldown and better burst damage. Heck if you're specced for 2x nova as long as you have around 140% cooldown or higher you can still charge immediately after novaing twice and be able to inflict substantially more weapon damage.

For some, playing as effeciently as possible is just as fun as messing around.

Jus sayin'

If you need a Tier list to figure out what to play, you're not going to do better than people who can figure it out on their own.

I don't have a problem with tier lists(I might make my own in this game), they can be interesting but some people take it too seriously and when you least expect it people who don't use top tiers in Gold would be kicked more frequently even if you're lv 20. Also at the other end some people will call you a tryhard for playing top tiers.

You can play character as effieciently as possible, but you cannot accurately compare them as there are too many variables.  In fighting games, you have only one character against another, nothing else changes, in this you have team composition, weapon loadout, power build, enemy, and map.  And since you can't just pit them against each other, even if all of those things are controlled (which would make the most convulted tier list ever) it isn't easy to judge efficacy relative to one another.

@BraveLToaster:

Yea you can. Any game that allows you to play as different things with different skills can be tier'd. You just have to set up the tier's rules differently, and weapons need a separate tier list.

Co-Op can be tier'd just as well as versus. Its even easier actually, since player skill on the enemy side doesn't come into play at all.

Depends on the player too. I suck with an Asari Adept, but I can make Turian Sentinels sing.

Only class I consistently clear gold with though is a Salarian Engineer, Turian Sentinel I can almost always make it to wave 10, but I sure miss Energy Drain if we get Group Hack.

IMO biggest barrier right now to more players playing on gold and doing well is rank 1 "good" weapons. Avenger X with 200% cooldown bonus is better than Sabre 1 with 70% cooldown.

Not so much with infiltrators though, I see lots of good infs doing fine with BW 1-2 or Widow 1-2.... or Valiant 1 for that matter.

Adepts - Asari > Drell > Human
Engineers - Salarian > Human > Quarian
Infiltrators - Salarian > Human > Quarian
Sentinels - Human > Turian > Krogan
Soldiers - BF3 > Krogan > Turian > Human
Vanguard - Human > Asari > Drell

That's my take on them, although personally I enjoy all Engineers and Infiltrators equally and play Vanguard the least - even though they're what I play most in SP.
