Kinda surprised tbh this isn't getting more backers than the adventure game. I thought there were more oldschool rpg fans than adventure fans but I guess not.

I wish it was D&D setting personally but I'm sure this will be great regardless.

If i remember right Tim Schafer's project get some really high "backings"  and since it was the first some backers maybe took it a lot serious :)

With 1 hour to go, they've got over 3 million now if you add PayPal donations. 3 million is creeping up on KickStarter, looks like it's going to be close.

Depends if they're counting three million once they pay all the fees which are associated with Kickstarter or before, however.

Just in case anyone was wondering, it seems like the PayPal donation stream is not yet closed (unlike the Kickstarter one), so it's still possible to pledge for Wasteland 2 via PayPal. (AFAIK)

Interview with Brian Fargo on Wasteland 2
http://gameplay.pl/news.asp?ID=67474

Szymon Liebert: Survivaealism, sandbox experience, story – which of these elements is the most important for you with Wasteland

Brian Fargo: I guess I would have to rate sandbox at the top of the list since that boils down to cause and effect. RPG players are very clear that they want their decisions to mean something. Look at the uproar from Mass Effect 3 and the ending. That was all because people felt their actions didn't really matter. And for story I find the journey to be the reward. The individual moments along the way are what people remember.

and now we wait.

I put $115 down for this (the $15 extra because of international shipping). That miniature I'll be getting with the CE box better be damn good, OR HEADS WILL MOST DEFINITELY ROLL.
Oh yeah, guess the game itself better be good too.

Looks like the PayPal donations are done now, but they just opened up a $20 pre-order page for Wasteland 2 on the Wasteland portal.

Have you all seen some of the fanart/concept art in the Wasteland: 2 forums they are beautiful! I just posted 2 because they are pretty large, and I don't know how to resize internet pics Image IPB.

One thing that has been subject to debate is whether or not child soldiers should be in Wasteland: 2. I am definitely for it. I remember watching the movie The Road, and I was impressed with the relationship between the father and son. I think it would be added party banter if a mother/son or father/son relationship could be included within our own ranger party.

I'm all for children soldiers but NOT if they are Rangers it wouldn't fit. I'd really like to see how Wasteland 2 will handle slavery and if it can be a way a tool in the game.

Child soldiers? Like in Sub-saharn Africa? Very twisted, yet appropriate. I'd like to see it as well. Slavery's been a big component in the last two fallout games and every piece of post- societal/post-apocalyptic piece of fiction I've encountered always has some component of slavery so it would be "nice" to see that in the game as well.

Has there been more specifics on what the game will actually be like? Will it be like a FANV, or are they going old school with a full text based rpg?

From the polls, it looks like it will be a 3-D RPG--I'm just assuming, though. The only thing I know about combat is that Fargo stated it will be team-based. The dialogue will be densely text-based, which Fargo has pointed out--definitely due to funding. They are going the Fallout: 1/2 route. Fargo had a problem when he went to a publisher and the first thing they asked was to make it a FPS (going from the funny video he posted). You will definitely not see that as a combat system. Since the team includes people from the Fallout series, you will most likely see a lot of influence from the Fallout series. I just don't know how much.

It's definitely turn based combat. Also Fargo has teased about "an innovative audio system"

http://news.softpedi...em-260450.shtml

“Keep in mind that we will design the game as if there was no conversation audio, so we won’t even consider that as a limitation. I don’t want to give away all my surprises, but people have made an assumption that voice acting is just talking heads or a narrator.”

I'm really interested in what he has come up with.

From what Fargo has been saying, I think this game will borrow heavily from Fallout. One thing is for sure, I love efficiency. Even though I happily read through Planescape's great dialogue, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed at some of the dialogue, especially the conversation with Ravel in the maze (same goes for some of the conversations in Fallout. That audio system sounds incredible, though. I'm not getting my hopes up considering the fact that it looks like he has a back-up plan incase it doesn't work, but it sounds very intriguing. I hope we can use custom voice inserts like in Baldur's Gate.

Great piece of art look at how nature is taking over.

Thanks for letting me know haven't been able to keep up with anything.

Here is the vision document and I'll put it in the OP also.

Blog Update

There was also a blog update on May 16th for the people who don't know John Alvarado (director of technology)  talks about how and why they picked the Unity engine for Wasteland 2. Wasteland 2 will be a 3D game with a top down POV and a screenshot will be released soon.
