I know it's much too early to tell, but I really want this to come out as something more than and far removed form the last two Fallout games we've played. I love 'em both, but if I'm going to devote time to another post-apocalyptic game, it needs a breath of fresh air.

And the vision document is out today too.

Thanks for letting me know haven't been able to keep up with anything.

Here is the vision document and I'll put it in the OP also.

Blog Update

There was also a blog update on May 16th for the people who don't know Fargo talks about how and why they picked the Unity engine for Wasteland 2. Wasteland 2 will be a 3D game with a top down POV and a screenshot will be released soon.

I will bust a nut should the final product come remotely close to what is outlined in the vision document.

Great piece of art look at how nature is taking over.

Just read this and my hype level gone over 9000...
Writing our characters own bios! .using our own portraits! and good ol'wasteland humor.

The environments will be a breath of fresh air, compared to Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas at least. Plus there's creating and playing a party instead of a single character. The vision document mentioned a keyword system like in the original Wasteland too. That will open some interesting oppurtunities in 'gameplay' and role-playing.

Fargo is very adamant about this being Wasteland and not Fallout as well. I would be very surprised if the final game felt much like recent games at all.

I dont think we will ever see a vault in WL2. Maybe one as a secret encounter/easter egg.
And it looks like nature is taking over.

And Dat keyword system!

Man it will be great to see a post apoc setting with nature you know doing it's thing.

I just hope they avoid overly futuristic stuff and stick to more ragged equipment. Futuristic is already covered with Shadowrun Returns.

From the vision;

And as you explore the world, you’ll see hints of what the world was like before as well. The world before the cataclysm was a society of towering skyscrapers of steel, concrete and glass. Styled after architecture of the 70's and 80's and 90's their striking geometric forms cut into the blue skies.

In parts of the world, the environment is shrouded in a Dust Bowl. Persistent dust storms roll across the desolate  wastes, blanketing the world with caustic dust. Unlike the society before, life in the wastes is bleak and hard. In other parts of the wasteland, vegetation-covered cities and rusted hulks of cars, robots, and discarded remnants of the years before create a dangerous landscape where mutants and gangs lie in wait for easy prey.

I swear reading this gets me harder than watching porn. Best $30 I ever spent.

Sounds exciting. I'll be keeping my eye on this and I wish the best for the project.

You'll laugh just reading these threads. Gay Characters and Romance threads.

LOL

I don't know anything about how this IP is supposed to feel, but why don't we wait for it to get back on its feet before we start suggesting fanservice of any kind?

It would be so cool if we could have radio stations playing 70s/80s music to go with it. Loved those radio stations in Fallout 3/NV.

Imagine hearing "Love Will Tear us Apart" as you investigate the ruins of a city.

Or "Every Breath You Take" as you walk through an oppressive city/town. They'll be watching you...

"RPGs haven't kept pace with time - they've
regressed and even worse, taken pride in less role-playing than before.
Important elements have been lost over time, sacrificed to technology,
art constraints, voice-over expenses, and multi-platform console
constraints. Wasteland 2 has no such limitations, it brings these RPG
elements back, takes them out of the attic, and makes them part of
gameplay again":D

That's good to hear. Even though I'm a fan of the setting, it's very easy to get fatigued from it. It's the only reason why I haven't cared too much for Last Of Us. The game it self looks beautiful and I love the conept, but I've already seen I Am Legend and rather see WIll Smith do it with his dog rather than replay it myself.

Fallout is pretty much dead. I hope Wasteland: 2 can fill that void that Fallout's death has left. Seriously, Wasteland: 2 has the whole package: a post-apocalyptic setting, Chris Avellone's writing, and to top it all off, one of my favorite composers, Mark Morgan, making the soundtrack. It doesn't get better than this.

Yes it does.

Wasteland: 2 is wildly successful so Wasteland: 3 gets made.

Nothing could get better than that.

For the people who never played Wasteland 1 lucky you it's going to be included with Wasteland 2 no word if they will update the game to make it compatible with Windows 7.

*sheds a tear* It's.. it's like Fallout Part III. The angle of the camera. The colors. Scorpion-Bot in action.
I am so sorry that I spent only $65 on this. I was biased if the can take it.

Now I am a believer. Got the update from inXile today but no time to check until now.
Wo needs The G.E.C.K. Trolls 4 now. Well not me anymore.
