I think that most of #Retake Mass Effect do realise that the people that will actually take their custom away from Bioware because of the ending of ME3 is a small minority of the total sales overall.

Unfortunately there are no numbers to really take, just guesstimates as to what effect this will have on sales. Some even predict sales rising due to the "no publicity is bad publicity".

Personally I think they'll lose DLC sales and maybe sales of upcoming games will be hurt. But if they are selling millions of games, they can afford to lose hundreds of thousands of customers.

This is pretty much true. I think many who say "never again" are speaking out of passion (heat of the moment). Those who are sincere wont be enough to impact sales. Still, its a shame Bioware doesnt make alternate endings dlc for said people, I still think there is enough people who would buy it to turn a profit.

The fact that those who take such issue with things actually don't ever do it is the biggest issue. And has been going back to all the issues with games like bringing in increased DRM measures that rarely anyone complains about anymore, DLC being to expensive for what it is, etc.

All those issues had the same we aren't going to pay, support, etc talk ...... and all those people that said that are still on these forums.

The only reason I say this is because I've actually seen it all happen before, right here on these forums.

I really really really disliked Dragon Age 2.  I said the writer should resign.  I like many refused to ever buy Dragon Age again and depending on trailers for DA3 I intend to keep that promise.I never bought any DLC for Dragon Age 2.

However, it still got released.  It still sold.  Many of the people who refused initially to buy it caved in.  Maybe they sold less than they originally hoped, but only in the thousands, not in the millions or anything.

People can not buy ME3 DLC and make a stance, but at the end of the day very little changes.  Because theres people out there that will and not enough will go through with their threat to make a significant dent in the profits.

Are you a gamer? (If not, what the hell are you doing here?) If yes, then he insulted you too.

“That incident was a great example of what a whiny group gamers are in general."

I'm a gamer. What he said is still true. There are A LOT of entitled whiny gamers. Mass Effect 3 is just the latest example of the immaturity within some of the online communities.

I'd also like to point out that even I didn't think the endings were great. They certainly left me wanting a bit. The amount of hate and overreaction by some gamers has just been disgusting.

Even when Bioware reaches out, something they didn't have to do, people continue to show their true colors. It's really embarrassing for reasonable people that both liked and disliked the endings.

Maybe it's because they're clarifying instead of changing.

Also @Valo Soren No.

Whatever Pachter says, it's always been in the realm of questionable. The man is clearly intelligent, but also clearly...weird. Once he is set on an opinion, he won't budge.

I have to agree with of what he said here though. EA being the worst comapny IS silly and it is silly that just pointing this out already causes people to say that EA is paying the man to do so, as if any bit of positive opinion on Bioware or EA these days is paid...
There also is a decent chunk of whiners out there. Worse still, there's offensive people (on both sides, can't deny that, but as someone who didn't hate the ending obviously I've only been attacked by those not in favor of it), people that will insult anyone who dares to enjoy Mass Effect 3, they will claim we're bought or ****s or simply call us idiots, that's the kind of people that deserve all the mocking that comes their way (and they are the reason why I personally am more disappointed in Bioware fans than I am in Bioware). BUT - they are a vocal minority. A VERY vocal minority, but still a minority. What Pachter seems to ignore however is that these whiners are part of a much larger group (at the end of the day still probably a minority, but most certainly NOT a small one!) that is unhappy with the ending...there are many sane, intelligent and polite people unhappy with the ending, people that can state their reasons well instead of constantly yelling three or four catchphrases of whichever movement they claim to belong to before moving on to insult others. The MAJORITY of those unhappy with the ending are most certainly decent people, just unsatisfied customers and that happens and they are within their right of saying "Hey Bioware, what you produced? I think it's crap." and you shouldn't ignore their achievement - Bioware DID react, that is a noticable success, even if many are still unhappy. If it were just the whiners...I'm not sure Bioware really would've done anything.
At least that's how I see it. The whiners aren't the group that wants a new ending - the whiners are its main problem and, sadly, thanks to being so vocal, they are how others perceive this group in its entirety (even I for the most part seem to stumble upon such people instead of anyone else).

His attack is not aimed at one particular group of gamers, he chose his words poorly, which is inexcusable if he's going to speak publicly.

I am like you, I didn't like the endings, and I know Bioware made a lot of promises in their marketing campaign that were ultimately not kept, but I will make do with the DLC, and I think like you that people are overreacting. My comment concerned this Pachter guy, not Bioware, not the fans.

By your logic I should lose my **** every time someone says something about gamers in general even if it is generally correct? Like the lot of you are doing? No thanks. I'd rather let things slide off my back and live my life then worrying about what someone I've never met is saying about gamers 'in general'.

To be fair, so are we. We're all only as good as the worst we have to offer...and on the BSN, whether you like, hate or don't care about the ending, every side has a lot of...people that I shall not further describe because I do not wish to insult anyone. But hey, we're all equally horrible, so Bioware once again brings us a hefty dose of equality!

Or Forbes' editor decided the parts of the conversation they displayed were more important to the article.  People like to think that Forbes is on their side, and Forbes does too, but ultimately they are going to trust their gut and do what they can to get more people to traffic their site.  Presenting something as ambiguously controversial to any group of people will get them attention.  No press is bad press.  How much traffic do you think they've gotten off that alone?  That translates into dollar signs.

Not that I'm saying Pachter was quoted out of context, not what I'm getting at at all.  But there are ways to sorta guide the mindset regardless and make the article more engaging to be talked about and linked around on places most likely to get traffic.  Right now Forbes' analysts are watching Google Analytics and seeing those numbers climb and climb.

Give the pro-enders a break. If they stopped calling anti-enders and Retakers names they'd have to attack their arguments instead (to be fair there have been some doing that but the fact that their usual approach is to simply insult anti-enders speaks volumes about the type of people on that side of the fence).

Thats the issue that bothers me when I see Forbes related articles. Using an issue and catagorizing the response to gain general intrest for their own gain while essentially supporting behavior that is detrimental to another.

In fairness, there are not too many "pro-enders" in the first place, as in people that see the ending and say wow, i love it, this is perfect.

What there are, are people who do not feel that the whole game is dictated just by the ending, and that some of this harrassment of Bioware staff on twitter and things is going way over the top.  Some people who would just like to speak about Mass Effect 3 without having every conversation diverted onto the ending.

A lot of the retakers will see the bad in these people when they troll etc, but refuse to see the bad in the people who turn a fem-shep clothes thread into a ending debate or abuse moderators and staff.

The truth is people are people.  There is good and bad on all sides of the fence.  Most of us agree the ending wasn't great, but it has affected some in a far worse way than others is all.
