This FAQ deals information about Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition and common issues involving the Downloadable Content that comes with that version of the game.
1) What steps do I need to take to successfully install Ultimate Edition and all of its DLC/extras?
-- Install the game
-- Reboot your computer (recommended to make sure the registry keys are properly saved)
-- Register the game (see item #4, below)
-- Redeem the DLC "redeem code" (see item #4, below)
-- Install Patch 1.05 (download link)
-- Launch the game and log in using your Bioware Social Network login
-- Allow the content to authorize. You can check this on the Downloadable Content menu in-game.
2) What DLC/extras come with the Ultimate Edition?
The Ultimate Edition comes with all of the DLC available with the original, "vanilla" (non-collector's edition) version of the game and the DLC made available for sale after launch. It also includes the expansion campaign, Dragon Age: Origins- Awakening.
It does *not* include items available as pre-order bonuses with various vendors and items exclusive to the Collector's Edition and Digital Deluxe edition. For a complete list of what is and is not included, see the Dragon Age Wiki's article.
Note: Some retailer pre-order bonuses, and bonus items that came with the pre-launch Character Creator, are now available to all PC users of the game for free. See this Wiki page for details on what is available and how to install it manually. It is recommended that you first complete the installation and authorization of all Ultimate Edition content *before* installing other bonus items.
3) Is Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening considered DLC?
Technically, no. It is a separate program called an "expansion pack". While it behaves much like DLC (for example, it is accessed from the "Other Campaigns" menu), its implementation is actually more complicated, which can cause some unique issues. You will not see Awakening listed on your account's content page, for example. However, Awakening is authorized using the same redeem code as the other DLC that comes with Ultimate Edition.
4) How do I register my game? How do I redeem the extra content?
For the retail disc version, you'll get two codes in the Ultimate Edition box.
-- The "CD" key (printed on the back of the manual) is used to register the game. You can do this by accessing this page: http://social.biowar...es_register.php
-- There is a separate code for redeeming the extra content. In the retail disc version, it is on an insert card (the other side is an advertisement for Mass Effect 2). You need to enter the redeem code on this page: http://social.biowar...redeem_code.php
Note: Those who own a digital copy of the game typically receive the redeem code in a separate e-mail.
5) How do I know I successfully activated the redeem code?
You can check your "Registered Game Content" associated with your account by going to this page: http://social.biowar...ntitlements.php
6) I did not receive, or I cannot find, my redeem code. What do I do?
You'll need to contact EA tech support directly. Go to help.ea.com and click on "Talk to a Game Advisor". You can send them a message, request a call-back (in some regions), or engage in a live chat (recommended).
Note that if you purchased the game via a digital provider, you should have received an e-mail with the redeem code; check your spam folders. This is typically a separate e-mail from any invoice you received confirming your purchase.
7) When I tried to use the redeem code, the website says it is expired or invalid. What do I do?
A few users have reported this problem. There could be a few different causes:
a) You've purchased a used copy of the game-- redeem codes can only be used once and are associated with a specific account. They cannot be transferred to another user.
c) You have other versions of the game registered to your account. A few of the users who have reported this issue have had other versions of the game (including on Xbox or PS3) associated with their Social Network account. Some have reported success by installing Patch 1.05, and the content appears in game anyway. This might be an error with the Social Network website interface and not DA:O UE.
If none of these conditions exist and you still receive an error, you should go to help.ea.com and click on "Talk with a Game Advisor".
8) I bought a used copy of DA:O-UE. Do I get all the DLC/Awakening with it?
Probably not. As mentioned above, DLC codes can only be redeemed once and are linked to a specific account. They cannot be transferred.
9) I own a new copy of the retail disc version of DA:O-UE. Do I need to download the DLC/Awakening?
No. This is a common misconception. All of the "Downloadable Content" comes on the disc. The DLC portions of Ultimate Edition must be authorized once by logging in online through the game, however. If you have Patch 1.05 installed, you should only have to authorize this content once.
10) My retail disc copy has a slip of paper saying the DLC for the game has expired. Is this true?
No. Bioware/EA has stated that DLC does not expire. See Question #7 above.
11) The DLC/Awakening shows up in the game, but it is listed as "Unauthorized". What gives?!
Unfortunately, Dragon Age: Origins has had long-standing issues authorizing DLC. Fortunately, Patch 1.05 directly addresses this issue.
There can be other issues associated with the Awakening expansion pack. See this FAQ and the "Solutions Roundup" links for more troubleshooting ideas.
12) Does the toolset come with the Ultimate Edition?
No. You can download the Toolset here: http://social.biowar...page/da-toolset
13) Do I need to install the Witch Hunt patch with the Ultimate Edition?
No. Bioware issued a patch for the Witch Hunt DLC for those who downloaded it a few weeks after its release. A corrected version of Witch Hunt was bundled into the Ultimate Edition.
