Ok, I've completed the game now on Synthesis and on 'Destroy' Endings.
Im starting to see what people mean about inadequette ending.
SPOILERS BELOW
Spoiler
1. Why does Shepard have to die in all possible outcomes..... Hes a really likeably guy.
2. The planet that the Stargazer and child are on, look alot like the planet that the Normandy crashes on. (Moons etc)
3. On Synthesis playthrough - you can see that Trees and people (Joker & Edi) are all turned part Synthetic - they have circuitry showing on their texture - this explains the propagation of the humaniod form on that planet in that playthrough (eg - EDI and Joker & whoever survived) can reproduce - since they are all synthetic/organic. But what happens if you choose the Destroy ending - surely that would leave procreation as an impossibility.
4. The Indoctrination theorys -
I've heard and understand 2 possible ideas around this.
a. Shepard Enters the beam of light, and is rendered unconscious, as Reapers on the citadel begin reprogramming his brain. Everything he experiences is a dream, as his mind tries to resist.
b. At the same time - the Illusive Man - maybe he was the start of the Indoctrication, thats when we first hearing the funny sound effects - which; if you read the research notes on sanctuary - are one of the tell tale signs of indoctrincation.
Both of these theorys link up with the idea that the Star-Child/Catalyst - is actually trying to get Shepard to submit to the indoctrination in the way that would most appeal to him/the player.
i. Destroy the Reapers - hardly seems like the sort of thing that would lead to a successful indoctrination. It is more likely that the Catalyst/indoctrination method puts this choice before the subject, as a last resort. If the subject will not become a reaper/indoctrinated individual, then they are provided with an illusion that leads them to try to destroy the reapers, but commit mental suicide at the same time. The only thing that doesnt tally up with this is - How does his body (Shepards) appear to be on earth in this ending. If he underwent indoctrination, it would have been on the citadel, and they wouldnt have transported his body down to earth after a failed indoctrination attempt. In any case- the body could be letting go of its last breath. I guess if you think about it - Shepard has been through hell and back, died once, come back, and given an impossible mission - The writers probably thought 'He deserves his rest'. etc.
ii. Control the Reapers - The obvious carrot in front of the donkey approach. To appeal to those who hunger for power. The Illusive Man probably took this option, thinking he was in control of the reapers. After they indoctrinated him, he was no longer filled with the desire to control them, and instead served them. That being said - who knows whether that really was him on the citadel. Some things dont tally up.
- On the cerberus base - the last video recording shows him about to undergo the surgery that would enable him to control the reapers. In Illusive Man's control room, before the fight with KL, he appears via holo, he looks normal. Yet, this is supposed to be after his surgery. When we see him next, he has blue circuitry all over his neck, and face. Surely if he had the surgery, and that his end appearance was related to the surgery - then he would have appeared like that during the holo call. The alternative is that Shepards subconscious imparted his own visual representation for him, and that the Citadel encounter was indeed a dream. (Supported by Shepards Remains being on earth - Leaves the Illusive man open as a living character)
iii. Synthesis - Another Carrot ploy - Oh Shepard, you can save the universe, if you kill yourself, by jumping into this big hole thing. This ending supports the Star-Gazing adult and child. How else could EDI and Joker and whoever procreate on alien world, without having been turned into Synthetic/Organic hybrids. But at the same time - it would then require that Shepard was not being indoctrinated, and that everything he experienced was real. Which would mean that he is DEAD?! Nooooooooooo
How the heck did Kaidan get from 'Running towards that beam of light' to being in a 'Mass Relay Jump' on the Normandy.
I thought he loved me!?
I agree the endings are not my cup of tea - I dont like unwinable games, and it doesnt feel like I completed the game, it feels like the end boss killed me, even though I killed it.
And this DLC that is coming out in June/July - or whenever.
I would actually prefer an ending where Shepard is alive, and gets to live happily ever after.
I realise this is a highly cinematic game, very much like a feature film in depth and acting etc.
But I dont like the whole 'Neo' death endings.
I want Mass Effect 4!! - Lol- I want Shepard to live happilly ever after, and earth to be saved.
