I know this is like the millionth thread about this, but if I dont vent im gonna go crazy.
The main issue I have is that none of the decisions I've made i nthe previous 2 games mattered for the ending... the decisions just get converted to numbers and thrown onto a progress bar.
I guess this was done because bioware couldn't make x amount of endings for every possible combination of decisions, yeah, we aren't stupid, we get that...
I would have been perfectly fine if no matter what you did in every game, no matter what decisions you made who lived who died, there was only one possible ending -reapers win, you lose, cycle continues- this would atleast make sense to me. And it wouldn't seem like such a cop out as the "endings" we did get.
Now some things about this ending in particular that ****** me off,
1. making the catalyst assume the form of a little kid... really, because thats original, I would of preferred it to look like any other reaper or anything really that wasn't so cliche' instead of "I assumed this form so that you would be more comfortable"
2. The catalyst says something about "every" race getting turned into a reaper in order to preserve that species' legacy when the next cycle continues... so why did the collector's focus on humans in 2? As I recall collector's were presumably interested in humans because of their more diverse genetic code, which is it... are they going for humans to make better reapers, or do they make everything into a reaper.
3. The reason behind the cycle... so catalyst says the cycle consists of the reapers wiping out almost all organic life every is it 500,000 or 500 million years? ...and that they do this to prevent organic life from creating synthetic life that wipes out ALL organic life... ... ... that stupidity just makes me want my money back from all 3 mass effect games, here we are at the end of the series where we are supposed to learn the reason behind all of this and there is no reason given. Why dont you want all organic life to be wiped out? Why wouldn't the reapers want synthetic life other than them around?
4. Why do all the available endings cause the destruction of the mass relays, I understood why bioware wouldnt want to make like 50 different endings... but seriously, one ending, recoloring the cinematics... makes no sense that controlling the reapers would still destroy the relays when the reapers themselves are not destroyed by the same energy (mass relays are made of the same stuff as reapers)
5. I already mentioned asbove how our decisions dont change anything, but this part is big enough to deserve its own mention. The Collector Base... wtf, cerberus still gets indoctrinated either way, they are still just as powerful either way, the only difference it makes is it changes how filled up the progress bar needs to be before you get a different ending.
What I would do if I were bioware.
-Lol, april fools guys, you thought that was the real ending? Everything that happened after Shep took the beam to the citadel was one big hallucination... it was the reapers trying to indoctrinate Shep. How did you guys not see that? I mean come on, Anderson was no where near you and he followed you into the beam? And Ashley/Kaiden/Vega walking off the Normandy even though they were charging the beam with you? You guys are SO dumb. Shep shooting the illusive man, talking to some phantom kid on the citadel, either controlling or destroying the reapers... that was all just a visualization of the indoctrination process, the reapers trying to convince Shep that he won, and he could stop fighting.
Why I didn't like the ending. (Spoilers)
