Is there anything you'd like clarified or reexamined? This 'interview' is simply my memory of what Mr. Weekes told us.

That's the problem. It's not a transcript. You're going by memory and perhaps subconsciously inserting your own interpretation of his statements. Have you ever done that communication exercise where you're supposed to tell someone something and then pass it on to the next person? In the end, the original message is lost. For example,  the answer to "How did you feel about the ending?" was just a description.

I also disagree that Bioware should be more open than they already are now. People are just going to twist it in someway that would further villify EA or Bioware. I've seen it happening in Wow's forums and it's happening here now.

No, it isn't! I'm definitely feeling better about the situation than I ever have. I think the core feelings of Weekes's view must have remained, and it's actually taken me a step back from the bottomless pit of negative infinite confidence I had earlier today. First time I've been there since before I saw the ending.

Look at least Weekes is TRYING. He's trying to give us answers about the story, about the production, about why some things HAD to happen the way they did.

More than any other BW staff member has done so far.

True enough, but I just get a bad vibe when anyone at BioWare says "you should assume this or that."
Show, don't tell.

Well hopefully they will come summer.

Good way to make sure no Bioware employee talks to a fan again :wizard:

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm worried about. I feel terrible, I should've thought more about what I was doing when I hit 'post'. :(

Not sure if this interview is legit.

He just confirmed that it happened, but the answers written are paraphrased and slanted towards the negative.

So it's legit, if a bit biased and thus shouldn't be taken word for word.

Yes. Comments like "Patrick dislikes the ending" should be ragarded as the author's happy fanfic, however, information such as "we didn't intend to destroy the universe - interstellar travel will still be possible!" can be taken as good info IMO. This interview is fantastic (despite the bias), it sheds tons of light on the situation and how fans spin the ending into something much more "doom & gloom, everything destoryed and everyone dead!" than Bioware ever intended

Great thread....and some more interesting info than I usually see on the forum....

But am I honestly the only one that can say that none of these would've been in my Top 5 Questions?....

How do you not ask about Starchild first and foremost?

How is Shepard alive in the destroy ending? Where is he?

Why could The Illusive Man control Shepard and Anderson?

Why the Crucible and not Dark Energy?

What about the many varying endings based on our decisions?(like ME2's Suicide Mission)

He seemed more straight-forward then the other responses we've been hearing from Bioware....but would he give me clear cut answers to any of these questions?

Probably not....but he would've said something that could've at least been "Speculated"

assuming this was liek a 1 on 1 thing, he probably needed to butter him up with soft questions.

at LEAST the interviewee addresses the normandy/citadel and inquires weekes about his general feelings on the endings.

not,

'hur hur who would you throw into the beam? i bet you found it funny, you think i m funny, i love your games, please think i m funny and know that i love your games'

Well, yeah the Normandy/Joker question was legit....as was the Harbinger question...

And his answer just proves the laziness across the board.......in storytelling(plotholes)....umm oh there's a reason he left? Well thanks for showing us that on screen....not

Laziness ruined possibly the best videogame trilogy of all time(Story wise at least). I know it was necessary to ask him some easy questions to get him to start talking...but there were a lot of questions in there....take a risk atleast....I would've asked one of the harder question once he had responded to 4-5 of my questions

@harbinger:
aw shaddup harby and build that new relay faster. or do you want me to come over and 'assume direct controll' again?

You know they could make a whole serial about Shepard the Reaper and Harbinger.

Shepard: "And after the relays I'm going to put you to work rebuilding... say... Vienna."

Harbinger: "WHAT? BUT I HATE PSYCHIATRISTS!"

Shepard: "I'm going to have to make you dive into the sun again aren't I...."

Harbinger: "I OBJECT TO THIS HARSH TREATMENT."

How did the Reapers storm the Citadel? Why didn't they shut down the relays as per their original plan once they had control?

Originally we planned to have a cutscene of Reapers taking over, Reaper monsters punching buttons, et cetera. But we cut it, partially for resource reasons and partly because it disrupted the pacing. The Reapers didn't shut down the mass relays because the Keepers interfered with that.

What?

See, this is why we need more in-game explanations and why a DLC shouldn't be needed to understand those things. Why wasn't that explained in the game? The Keepers do "something new" in ME3, they interfere, possibly against the Reapers, yet we had no idea because of course this "detail" was never mentioned nor referred to, not even in the Codex.

Let me guess... "resource limitations" again?

Indeed, but we can only assume a lot of this stuff will be addressed come summer. He directly says Joker running away will be given a reason. Whether or not the reason is crappy or good, it will at least no longer be a plothole.

Come on man, IF they read this thread (apparently they are), they've gotta be seeing that 'open discussion' more than ANYTHING they've tried to do on the PR front so far, calms the fans.

Don't you feel the Weekes love? Cause I do.

They should've shown in the existing endings, I mean.
I know that isn't specifically his fault, but it's still an overall failure on BioWare's part.

If that is true, then it seems to imply that Shepard CAN control the reapers, or at least it was never planned for the reapers to disobey Shepard's command.

Control definitely seems the best ending now, shame shep dies but its the ultimate sacrifice.

I wish they'd define 'dies' how does shep control the reapers if she's completely dead, Ie no longer part of the living world.

If I get to end the game as a 3km tall cuttlefish with N7 painted on my hull and Harbinger as my ****... I'd 'die' happy.

Actually I was talking about this with a friend: let's assume Shepard "uploaded" himself into a Reaper so it's possible his mind is still alive in a virtual reality.

One way to make a "happy" ending in control is your LI upload him/herself in the same Reaper so he/her can be with Shepard for the whole eternity.

Okay so then it's 'bittersweet' and I would still be 'happy' as a player. oh and besides this leaves the door open for shepherd cameo's FOREVER. Shepherd is no longer player in the normal world. but if in the next game you're flying aound in a reaper ship. Jennifer Hale can be the next 'edi' or whatever.... (Even just a giant N7 cruising by in an panorama shot. it's all good. an easter egg for long terms fans... ahem... assuming we're still around)

Yes, you should have, but the damage is done.  I feel sorry for Patrick who will probably catch even more "flack" because he was misquoted.  (And frankly you should apologize to him if you haven't already done so.)

Hopefully this doesn't cost him his job or something, this is why most companies like only designated people talking with fans.

I would like you to clearly mark the unbiased, 'hard facts' info you are SURE about. Example: if you are sure Patrick said "interstellar travel will be possible because of improved FTL + the tech from Reaper corpses", you should mark it somehow, make a clear distinction between that and sentences in which you describe what you think Patrick meant/felt

You remember John Hammond's signature phrase from Jurassic Park?

"Spared no expense."

After reading his answers, Mass Effect 3 seems to be the polar opposite of that.

Yeah, it's all good! Hopefully everyone can handle the situation like adults. Those of us who needed something like this need to tell everyone we can that this sort of talk makes us feel better and more like fans again. Seriously! We need to encourage it! Just make sure that we get full transcripts and no one is misinterpreted.

Great, I feel like the expectations are lowered, but still hope the ending DLC really does a game change for the main issues with the ending. If this ends up just being deleted cutscenes with an epilogue at the end, due to an "unplanned" fan reaction, I am going to bail on Bioware/EA for good this time around. So I am going to play once to download the patch and the MP DLC, however I am not going to do another playthrough until the DLC comes out, then if it works out for my main, and it shows this was a planned extension of the ending, I will be cool, if not, I will forever hold my peace and just stop being a game consumer period.
