I just want to thank Patrick Weekes for being awesome, and giving us some honest answers.
And I want to thank the BSN for not roasting him, being open to communication, being optimistic, but not overly so. This is why I love you, BSN!

Thanks,@sethjdickinson, no harm done. They were great questions. Just didn't want anyone to think I was slamming EDI/James.
No worries! Of course, people like EDI/James, and you don't want to be seen as negative towards characters the audience has developed connections with.
I had no clue who James was throughout Mass Effect 3 (having not read the books), but grew to like him for what he was.
Tough place to be in, to be sure, being related to the development of such an emotionally invested story.

The Keepers NEVER had anything to do with the ENTIRE NETWORK of the Mass Relays!
That is not quite true. The Keepers were created for the sole purpose of maintaining the Citadel for their new owners so they wouldn't learn its true purpose. At the same time, they were supposed to act on a specific signal sent by the Reaper vanguard that would compel them to activate the Citadel's relay to dark space. The Prothean team on Ilos managed to nullify this signal so the Keepers didn't act on it when the time came.
However, I do agree the Keepers shouldn't be able to interfere with the Reapers' ability to shut down the relay network. It makes no sense, particularly considering the Reapers created the mass relays in the first place.

Well none of us want Mass Effect to die. We want it to come back to life! So we're trying, and we can only hope guys like Weekes are too!

As someone that didn't absolutely detest the ending... I hated the way the PR spin was handled for the past month. This is the kinda talk I like though. Straight, honest, and even if you don't agree with the answer you can respect it. Someone should let Weekes handle the PR on this ending for a while because at least I feel respected as fan right now.
I've said from the beginning that if Bioware would(had) just come out and said, "Hey guys you know what, when we made the game we thought the ending was awesome. Our bad."
My response would have been, "Okay, you guys suck at this decision but show me your next dlc. Maybe we can retcon the ending a bit later?"
The artistic integrity response was basically a big "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND OUR GREAT GENIUS. WE ARE BEING PERSECUTED LIKE THE GUY WHO THOUGHT THE EARTH REVOLVED AROUND THE SUN. WOE IS US."
And as everyone on the BSN has seen, it hasn't done much to help them. So seeing this paraphrased as it may be interview is awesome. Don't agree with things that were paraphrased for us to read but it is nice to see what the devs were thinking.
Thanks Weekes<3

Thing is he is trying to fix it. It's obvious he really didn't have much to do with the ending. He is trying to fix it. Can we wait until we see it to begin the grilling? The Angry One wrote...

Are you always this negative...I mean most of your posts here are just downright depressing. You may never be pleased, but could you maybe lower the torch for a couple minutes. I mean this writer is our only hope for a better ending. Hope I didn't come off as insulting just wishing for people to not burn everything before its even on the grill!
Much love,
Camcon!<3
I'm a realist. I appear negative because that's the impression the ending left on me.
You don't just destroy the infrastructure of the galaxy and leave people to assume it'll all get better.
You don't just destroy the Citadel and leave people to assume everybody inside is okay.
And so on. The last comment just made me facepalm, because if I want to see Star Wars I'll watch Star Wars.
The tactics in the codex would look awesome in game. Come on, ships making FTL jumps to appear behind a Reaper then blasting it in the ass? How would that not make for a great cutscene?
I'll stop the grilling when I can have my little blue babies/adopted krogan babies/cute Shenko babies. Without committing galactic genocide. In that order.
*shakes fist*
I'll make you a deal: When the extended cut DLC comes out, and if the destroy ending has blue babies, send me your Shepard's save file and I'll do all the endings for you, and then recut the ending cutscenes so that it looks like you chose another ending and still got to reunite with your team.
It's not optimal, but maybe you could accept it in your head
That pic Is AWESOME!!!!!! So Cute! reminds me of my baby girlFTW!

What was wrong with my post? I was just pointing out that his explanations are still, by simply going back and reading old source material, quite a bit different than what we know too be established lore.
I'm glad they're creating an extended ending, but if keep trying to anchor it with the current nonsense we have with an ending IT STILL WON'T MAKE SENSE.
Granting context to events that shouldn't happen doesn't make them better.

In all honesty, an interview like THIS is exactly what a lot of us have been thirsting for for weeks now. Thank you for being willing to do some straight-talk, and for giving us the perspective of the writers on some of this.
Personally, I feel very good about a lot of these explanations and am now genuinely looking forward to the Extended Cut, trusting that, with people like Weekes as part of the crew, we can expect people to formulate clarifying cutscenes and epilogue scenes that actually address some of our concerns.
Again, thanks!

But your ranting over paraphrased answers to a casual interview, just chill and enjoy the fact that someone is actually speaking to us (however indirectly)
Theres plenty of other threads to express your concerns in.
The fact is we won't really know how it's all explained until the EE comes out.

There was no 'interview'. We just stood around talking. We had no idea it was going to happen - it was nothing formal.
After it happened I was at PAX for several more hours before I got home and wrote this up. I did see someone with a video camera, but I don't think she was there for the entire conversation.

Naw the interview seems to be a relatively rough 'recollection' of a well meaning fan. Sadly he did not make hard recordings while asking these questions.
It's a shame, most of his questions (though he misses a few points that many wanted to address I am sure) BLOW any of the crap that the zombies threw at the panel.

I really think Bioware shouldn't take any hate. Sure, they still put the godchild in there, but I bet if the Extended Cut had been originally in the game (as I bet Bioware would've wanted), most of the protests wouldn't have happened. Yes, there would be unhappy people, as there are unhappy people with about everything in this world. But definitely wouldn't have existed any uproar or anything similar to a "Retake Movement" and we'd be all arguing about who's the best LI or what's the best ending while agreeing that Mass Effect 3 totally blew us away as the awesome game it is.
