If this is true it seems like he understands and acknowledges most of the problems with the ending, that gives me hope for the extended cut. I just wish they will end up ditching the Normandy scene entirely.
Or..They could make a new Normandy scene where they show the Normandy landing and your priority Earth squad rushing Shepard on board and into the med-bay. All the while Shepard hears muffled voices explaining they did it, that the Reapers are gone/destroyed, concerns about Shepard being alive. And if your Shep has enough points to live, well then it shows his/her eyes opening up and then cut to the credits, or if not, just fading out to black. Something like that.

I'll say this. I'd feel a lot more confident about purchasing a future Mass Effect game if Weekes was the lead writer. Good guy.
Correction, I'd feel a lot better about purchasing Bioware products in the future if they go 'rogue' Bungie style.
I'm bemused as to why Bioware allowed themselves to be bought up by EA in the first place, were they having financial issues? I never heard anything of the sort. Could it be that the two co-founders just wanted a rest after a very long time of hard graft? I've always been biased against EA and have always admired what Bioware have done so far, maybe one publisher is just as bad as the next and I've always considered Obsidian as an emergency get out clause for the employees since EA took over, though I have absolutely no idea if that is even feasable.
As I remember it, EA bought out a holding company that happened to control a majority of Bioware's share and EA never let go. By the time Bioware realized they were taken over, it was too late.

Not exactly a nice thing to do, but it's happened before. I think it actually happened to Nokia thanks to Microsoft or something.

Granting context to events that shouldn't happen doesn't make them better.
But your ranting over paraphrased answers to a casual interview, just chill and enjoy the fact that someone is actually speaking to us (however indirectly)
Theres plenty of other threads to express your concerns in.
The fact is we won't really know how it's all explained until the EE comes out.
Yeah, yeah.
Im just concerned about it is all. I'll just wait and see what gets sent our way this summer. Weekes is pretty awesome for taking the time out.
Also, Geth Infiltrator in MP? Yes, thank you!
Bah Krogan Vanguard 4tw!

I really enjoyed Mass Effect, so I'm glad they are fixing the finale instead of just defending what they have.

So apparently these endings are actually not such downers, they just executed them so bad that it looks like we killed everything. Am I correct in this?
Looks like it.
Maybe things won't be so bad afterall.

They really, really, need to have their next games playtested by outsiders next time. Some of the stuff
like them not underlining the nature of relay explosions, totally avoidable that way.
On a personal note. I'm glad I didn't endup frying Joker's girlfriend afterall and please mr Weekes, if you're reading:
more Harbinger in the extented cut.

Why does EDI survive the destroy ending? This was never explained even in the interview.
My guess would be that since EDI is resident in her "Dr. Eva" chassis AND in computers inside the Normandy, that the mobile cerberus/reaper-infused Dr. Eva got low-level wiped by the Red ending, whereas the rest of her that's inside the Normandy, given that it only consists of human/turian/asari/salarian tech was untouched... at which point, she re-initializes and resyncs back into the Dr. Eva body. That's my theory.

hey look someone comes out and gives straight answers with no concentration or PR spin and people seem to take to it, wow who'd a thunk it? give the guy props for being as cool as he is about this. though half the stuff he is saying sound like back tracking ass-ups, people on the cit and what not but given what he was given. as for the relays blowing up what hell did they think we would think of it? this guy also seems to like to kill people off.. not really liking that but oh well good to have someone say something that's not talking down to us.
Sure but at least in interesting and meaningful ways.
Mordin's arc was superb.

I'd accept their apologies as well. This particular dev seemed very reasonable and pleasant to talk to. I was starting to become seriously concerned that Bioware was incorporating EA's policies.

They're part of EA, I personally don't have much long term hope but maybe the market or technology will change enough by then. I know am seeing a very dark cloud but hopefully the silver lining will be there to save the day

i feel like if there was a Q&A like this to start with there would not have been as much anger over the ending.
True, but with Q&A like this in the beginning, we might not be getting this ending DLC in the first place, so maybe it's a balancing act of nature?

BTW, ok, so much for flight but what about communications? The comm buy system still relays on the relays and without them, we are basically just left with courier drones.
I actually think that is one of the great missed opportunities of the game. Traynor says something about Rachni being able to communicate long distances if you save the queen. What if the end game cut scenes somehow reflects this, maybe Wrex (stuck on Earth) being able to contact Eve would stop civil war, without queen, Krogan dissolve into chaos again etc.
Maybe it got cut because it seemed to be foreshadowed.

Not exactly. ED HERSELF is based on Reaper tech remember? She was that Rogue VI that Shep blew up in ME1, and then Cerberus picked it up and tinkled with it and threw in Reaper stuff from Sovereign.

I take issue with this sentiment.
I do NOT for a moment believe that the endings are a fault of any one individual or their hubris or their alleged 'clutch' on how the series should end.
It completely illogical to assume this is true. Why would any one person (Casey included) turn his/their back(s) on the rest of the creative team they've worked together with for the entire project, or most likely for the whole series, and say 'this is what we're doing?'.
Instead, try to consider WHY anyone would have done what they did to the endings the way they did. Did it feel rushed/incomplete compared to the rest of the fantastic content in the game? Yes.
WHY?? well..
Granted, this thread is a lot of conjecture trying to fill in what feel like massive blanks?
But what if it was a little of column A, a little of column B?
What if the ending was carved out at the last minute by 1-2 people, and the reason it was carved out at the last minute by 1-2 people was that EA basically said "It ships on this date, or else." ? So they were forced to do such a thing because it was the only way to get it produced in time for an overly short deadline?
As tempting as it is to look for a singular fall guy as lord knows that a lot of people have done to Hudson and so on, sometimes I've wondered if in all this Bioware might be basically doing the best they can with a terrible situation.
What if, after recieving this harsh ultimatum from EA, Bioware upper management had a meeting about what to do about the situation?
What if, they realized that they are in a position where they could never admit to the public just what EA was doing, and forcing them to do, regarding the ending of ME3? And they still can't today?
What if Bioware was maneuvering into a position where they could fix this, as best as they possibly could, while still saving face for EA and their investors?
What if completely rewriting the ending would be a disaster as regards EA and the Investors, because it would mean admitting that they didn't really meet the deadline at all, but shipped an unfinished story? What if the fact that this was because of EA's unreasonable deadlines wouldn't matter to them, and could still have been devastating to Bioware?
What if whatever the state of the corporate culture is at any company owned by EA, there are still people at Bioware fighting the good fight to make great stories, even when backed into an impossible looking corner by people not concerned with good stories, only short sighted profits?
We'll probably never know exactly what the situation was that caused what I feel is one of the most brilliant writing teams ever to grace video games to finish such a wonderful masterpiece the way it did, but it certainly is, at least to me, a compelling set of "what if"'s.
At any rate, I'm excited to see the extended cut, and finally see what comes of all this.
